- Ransomowris, on 10/11/2007, -10/+85It's probably your connection speed.
I hate idiots who think upgrading their computer makes their internet faster. - cankillar, on 10/11/2007, -6/+64@shadowtech
Sounds like you've got a $200 dell and dialup. - moojj, on 10/11/2007, -1/+57I went to check it out, and ended up watching the whole show. To my surprise they credited one of my articles, the "Why it doesnt pay to be a Computer Guy" to someone else. ARG.
- toppgun, on 10/11/2007, -3/+30I have a 2.0ghz macbook pro and I couldnt play it without chop. I am a paying member and I downloaded it to my computer. I had to quit it and restart to get it without having chop. I hope it is just this one video that did it to me but I did have that problem too
- moojj, on 10/11/2007, -5/+27@shadowtech: Stop going to those porn sites that install spyware
- DaMacGamer, on 10/11/2007, -3/+19Alex's laptop is way too shiny...
- titlesaysitall, on 10/11/2007, -15/+27My Mac is 2.5 years old and plays it well.
- kjcdude, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13videoclix has really hampered my diggnation viewing experience. it's a cool idea, but the problem is i can't play full screen it lags whenever i resize, but plays fine in the window.
I've never had a problem playing any of their shows int eh past, but now it lags at points on my $5,000 system.
get rid of videoclix till it works and get rid of the filter - Yoda716, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11I too had problems playing back the video in the quicktime player. It simply locked up as soon as I started it. Though it plays just fine as always in VLC but the clickable things don't work in VLC :( Oh well...
- Snyder, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11It worked for me and plays ok at normal size. When I resize the video it drops down to about 5fps. In full screen it's closer to 1fps. There's no reason for that with the specs of my computer.
Dell XPS 410 / Vista Home Premium / Quicktime 7.1.6
Core 2 Duo e6600 2.4GHz / 2GB DDR2 RAM / Geforce 8800 GTS 320MB
So yeah... ditch the clickable version.
P.S. It plays fine in fullscreen using VLC. Of course it's not clickable then. :) - Shroomie, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12My other computer is well over 2 years old and plays it fine at 1280x1024.
Oh, and for the record the clicking didn't work for me, but I use VLC to play it so I wasn't really expecting it to work. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -5/+15I tried that on the most recent show (before reading this)....it didnt work
- xpose, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12Thats weird Diggnation is getting USEFUL features added to it whereas digg.com is getting eye candy. Hmmm.
- Sairgem, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Oh hohoho... I get it! You replaced nation with gaytion. Clever hahaha!
- victorc26, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9"by dgblackout
mine is 13 months old. i can.
buy a mac."
Uh, no. It's most likely his net connection when trying to play the h.264 version off his browser.
2 year old PCs can play H.264 encoded 640*480 videos. That isn't much of an accomplishment to tout. - hiPpymIck, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7heres the comment thread for the latest episode (waste not want not)
http://digg.com/podcasts/Diggnation/432912 - AggieTales, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4On some systems, like my 2 year old PowerBook, its fine at first then starts being choppy as hell. This isn't b/c of the video itself, its most likely b/c of all the "clickable" elements it has to run in the background and load into memory. Even with all those items disable it was still choppy on my PowerBook. and for the record I downloaded the file to my harddrive before trying to play it, so it has nothing to do with connection speeds or anything like that.
- Miniman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3LOL, it works, but when you blow it up to full screen, it started dropping some frames, i don't think the videoclix is optimized well enough yet.
- NPIG, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3clicking a video in itunes, which is where I watch diggnation as a podcast, simply pauses the show.
- insovietrussia, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Great way to waste 92+ consecutive hours of your life. I like my Diggnation in small doses.
- Gatesophile, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Just for the record, playing around with the clickable stuff in Quicktime on XP, it worked fine. Until you tried to go fullscreen. Then it went all choppy. But regular size was fine, played perfectly like normal.
- ub3rgeek, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2it was choppy as hell on my 1.6 GHz Core Solo Mac Mini in Front Row. But once i started watching it in VLC it played like a champ. Im going to say that we should do with out the clickable stuff.
- unruled, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I hate quicktime, so ***** the clicky links.
the ep, albeit with messed up colours, was perfectly playable in VLC .86b - corsairstw, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Yeah, it's really choppy for me as well. I'm on a 1GHZ iMac G4. In Quicktime Player it is reeeeally choppy. When I open it in VLC (which doesn't "take advantage" of the enhanced clickable functionality), it plays at normal speed. I hope they read the comments about the people who this is choppy for. Because, it sounds like it's that way for a lot of people.
- patthew, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Or you would be able to if iTunes didn't freeze up anytime anybody in the room took a breath.
- iXam, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Diggnation episodes 1 to 92 in a convinient torrent is here -> http://www.netrogenic.com/diggnation/
Greate way to catch up. - MrTinker, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Another user with bad video playback. Had to download a different version.
- loudestnoise, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I had the same experience. I could watch it just fine when not in fullscreen on my Mac Mini and the clickable elements worked just fine, but when expanded to full screen it was choppy. This all being in Quicktime. Didn't try VLC.
- konstantinos88, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Oh, you mean like a PICTURES SECTION? (Re: Kevin Rose...)
- c0d3z3r0, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1My Macbook Pro is my fastest system and this video plays slowly on that, and wont even play at all on my Media Center PC.
They should just stick to the way it used to be before. - bjtitus, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2to ransomowris: Actually, updating your computer can make the internet faster. If you have parallel downloads running at the same time (Firefox's max persistent connections preference), the processing speed of your computer can in fact affect how quickly your page appears.
"One possible contributor for slower response times is the amount of CPU thrashing on the client caused by increasing the number of parallel downloads. The more images that are downloaded in parallel, the greater the amount of CPU thrashing on the client."

amen.
and then there are those who claim their new high speed internet conection doesnt work because their computer still takes the same time to bootup.
life in techsupport sux, :( - Marijuana, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2I don't know about you guys but I'm sorry Alex's voice is just annoying. Still like Diggnation nonetheless.
- diggdong, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Same here. Why does Quicktime change start up reg preferences in XP?
- mb3581, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1mine plays well with VLC but with quicktime its choppy and unwatchable.
- mb3581, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1"To see the stories we've been digging go to www.digg.com/users/diggnation "
- tsunamisteve, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1if you have a chapter-ized video file there will be a new button on the transparent pop-up bar in itunes. wait for tomorrow's episode.
- slapthemonkey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1That would be convenient.
- cordillera, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0If I try to run it my computer crashes.
- thickdrummer, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I agree, the colour was way off. As in the previous episode, it seems there was too much contrast and saturation. Not bothered about the clickable links either. When watching it on my computer, surprisingly, I have ready access to the internet.
- zanent, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1With VLC it plays great but doesnt support the interactive crud, with media player classic it is dog slow.

- beast4549, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Hey,
I just read on the revision3 forum that there is a new interactive h.264 version that is up. It was fixed by VideoClix and is no longer choppy like the previous one. I have a macbook pro and it is playing great for me with their new version even in fullscreen.
If you had a bad time through the first time, you might want to check it out again, - insovietrussia, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Lol? I don't get it.
- SundayBrunch, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1There is a guy here with a 5000 dollar system, digg his ass down, nowwww!!! Macs blow
- Ninjab3ar, on 10/11/2007, -4/+3Im not a paying Revision 3 member, but why don't you try saving the video first, then trying the features out.
- blackflagtent, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0why did it take them so long to make it an enhanced podcast?
- emh924a, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1i think alex and kevin were pulling our legs
- Chupatumama, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1How about just adding freaking links/show notes right under the episodes?
Every effing podcast hast them except Diggnation.
If you dont want to bother finding the links to the topics the two veer off into, at the very least put a link to the top stories you are promoting. - DigiMarkK, on 10/11/2007, -5/+1So, can I now get my Walmart Wife beaters directly from Diggnation? When will they do this for the Broken episodes? :) We all want to order 40's from a video.
