- anotherjeff, on 10/12/2007, -5/+128I hope he does.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+47I stopped getting TechTV back when it was ZDTV (cable provider dropped it). The Screensavers was Leo Laporte and Kate Botello in those days. All I knew of Kevin Rose before Digg was theBroken (Which scriptkiddie or not, Hacking with Ramzi is the *****). I can safely say that I don't have Digg/TSS fanboy syndrome.
So all things said, I don't know why there is so much hating going on. Diggnation is two guys get a little buzzed, talk about stuff that's interesting enough to make the top stories. There's no dickhole talking head regurgitating something from a prompter. I don't see how it's whoring or disingenuous. One of the hosts help create the site for *****'s sake.
"BUT OH NOEZ TEH ADZ AND TEH SPONSORZ"
Digg is free to use. Diggnation is free to watch. Bandwidth is not. How to suggest they pay for it?
"BUT KEVIN IS TEH CAMERA WHOREZ"
First off, this isn't his Youtube blog that you're forced to watch because he helped create digg. Revision3 is made up of a lot of people who made ZDTV/TechTV what it was. It's an online television network for all intensive purposes. Diggnation is a "show" in R3's programming lineup. Kevin left G4TV and started working on shows at R3.
That brings us back to in-show sponsors. You watch an episode a a time, you can't have commercials or ad-time in between shows. You don't have to watch an ad before you're able to watch the shows. You don't have a break in the programming every 10 minutes like traditional broadcast TV. Most of the time Kevin and Alex read copy from their advertisers for like 2 minutes at the end of the show, sometimes heavily inebriated.
They make a point of clarifying that they've never used a product, even when the ad copy implies it (Webex). I've seen no corporate dick sucking.
"BUT TEH AIRLINEZ IZ THE LOSE"
The sponsor gave them booze and free run of a plane to do their show. They are going to let them do a live show on a plane. A plane that runs Linux and has real in-flight entertainment etc. If an airline said "If we pay you and give you beer, would you be willing to do your show in a sick plane that caters to techcentric types and maybe have a live show in flight later on??" would your answer be anything other than "***** yes"?
I mean seriously. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -14/+48@digguser949
PROTIP: Don't watch it. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32...when did the word LIVE change of definition?
- blackjack75, on 10/12/2007, -3/+31I can't explain it either, I know the news in advance too. That said I appreciate having two drunk guys speaking about it. I think they are often funny. It's just like sitting at a table with friend discussing life and the universe. It does not often change what you know. You share what other people think about it. And I like it.
- marcuschi, on 10/12/2007, -12/+34Hope Kevin doesn't throw up on their seats.
- miniboss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Whats screwed up is they did a podcast on a plane and didn't give any tour of what the plane actually looked like. Whats the point of filming in a unique location but only focusing on the same old things the viewers see every week.
- mindsnare, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19@weeklygeek
Is it so hard to believe that some people find the show entertaining?
Of course you've got people who watch it purely for Kevin Rose fanboyism but there's a ***** of people out there who actually enjoy watching the show. Who the ***** made you the piller of what is entertaining?
Sometimes I like to chill and watch a chilled back show, simple as that, and there's plenty of other people out there that feel the same way. - dojonz, on 10/12/2007, -10/+25@idigital
You moron. Servers, bandwidth and most importantly staff don't come free. - Gatesophile, on 10/12/2007, -7/+21actually, I am more shocked that video is already up... I am happy for this story.
- BuckyBit, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15BTW: Alex was dead-on when he offered his comment on Steve Jobs and the DRM-Letter. It-s these tiny pieces inside the show, that makes me watch it.
- coldskool, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15I actually do like Kevin however... I remember when he first started making appearances on the Screen Savers and Leo and the other guy would bust his balls but he was a good sport about it.. now they probably suck his balls every time they see him.
- dojonz, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16@ ImTheDarkcyde
I don't use adblock. But I know for a fact, if web 2.0 is going to survive.. it's going to have to employ advertising to make it commercially viable. How else is Digg supposed to make money? - donation drives like Wikipedia?.. like the 'idigital' types on Digg would be so generous. - form3hide, on 10/12/2007, -20/+28I find their vidoes boring and dull, I feel as if they're trying too hard at what they're doing.
Or I'm insanely jealous. - Tippis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7It's Operah Winfrey... for geeks...
It sells on basically the same principle, and turns people away for pretty much the same reasons. - mdavis, on 10/12/2007, -14/+21Never understood the appeal of diggnation. I read digg.com, don't need someone to read it to me.
- idigital, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10@dojonz: Jeez. I have no issues with Digg supporting itself via advertising, have you noticed that it already does so? However much has been said of companies taking advantage of Digg by paying users to contribute stories, and it's recognised that using Digg as an advertising outlet like that is a bad thing. VA and Diggnation have today surely used Digg in this way, and it's an alliance between Diggnation and VA, not Digg fundraising. The other story went to the frontpage within an hour and linked to a competition entry form on VA that asked for your Digg username and had a checkbox for their newsletter as part of the form. This story focusses on the VA Airbus and is clearly part of today's VA PR, all it lacks is "Kevin Rose prefers to fly VA!". If it were anyone else, this would be seen as gratitious use of Digg for advertising and asking for a Digg username would definitely be frowned upon. I'm not going to be apologetic for thinking that if this is how it begins, it could get worse in future, doesn't take much to imagine how Digg could end up. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way, throw around insults if you like.
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Stop spreading FUD.
- Timmyftw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I enjoy discussion and opinion on what i am reading on digg, thats why i read comments, thats why i watch diggnation.
- BlackCow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Im fine with it as long as they like the product they are advertising. And seriously VA is ***** kick ass!
- TheOneGreatX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This should be in podcasts, and it already is.
- SAOSiN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Rev3 doesn't need a mirror, cachefly does a good job spreading their content. It always downloads at 200+kb/s for me, but thats because thats where my cap is. I'm sure it goes faster for those with big pipes, and I bet its even faster than your mirror.

You owe me five bucks! - UNL1M1T3D, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well said aRgusChung.
- kjcdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://digg.com/podcasts/Diggnation/248607
- rejectpenguin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Im guessing they released early so they could plug the live feb 13 show.
- Technopundit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just kids havin' fun.
- jeeteeare, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The "until next time..." at the end was hilarious this episode
- Technopundit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They're kinda like a 21st century version of "Burns and Allen".
- garrettgjb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1norcim: Go watch dl.tv.
btw dl.tv is t3h l4mez0ez - RoflMyWaffle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1umm.. what happened to tuesday releases?
- thepaul, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I know some will say, and they have that Kevin and Alex are selling out and are now whoring stuff like Zune and Virgin America. But still, they need to pay the bills and all that stuff.
Plus how crazy is this, Richard Branson must totally dig diggnation, I mean I can't imagine a company with it's brand taking a risk on a couple of guys who drink beer and yap about news stories on a website.
Good on you Kevin and Alex.
Keep up the good work. - coldskool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In the only other episode of diggnation that I've watched, they were actually sitting there for 5 minutes discussing then tasting each others beer, how ***** gay is that?
- eliburford, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Man that looks really cool. I'm gonna check that out later.
- Malachai77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does anyone have the url to sign up for the live show on the airplane?
I thought I seen it earlier... - coldskool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1www.daylatebuckshort.com
- Fantom, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Cachefly are awesome - they even peer with the Western Australian Internet Exchange, so my tracert to Revision3 from Australia looks like this:

"This one is going to be crazy because not only are we drinking beers, but..." - Surefly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Southwest put a move on VA recently. I guess we'll see how long the ad/alliance pans out.
http://news.moneycentral.msn.com/provider/providerarticle.aspx?feed=FT&Date=20070209&ID=6463304 - norcim, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1The blond guy's voice just hurts my ears!! And whats with the drinking beer all the time?
- Sharshush, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Wow first time I've watched diggnation. ***** terrible and pretty stupid. Also Alex whoever is the most annoying person on earth. It is great though if you cannot understand or analyze the topics on digg yourself, i.e. your too stupid to make your own conclusions. Dugg down for uselessness.
- 3zero3, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1@ linkskywalker
Word. They both need to be slapped and their egos tethered to the ground. - OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4Whatever they're doing, it seems to be catching on.
- mindsnare, on 10/12/2007, -11/+8putting an exclamation mark at the end of all your sentences doesn't make you interesting!
I dunno it took me a while to get into diggnation, but now I really like it, just a good chilled back show. hell it's just like a show we had in Australia on free to air, called the Panel, just more tech related. - fenixconnektion, on 10/12/2007, -9/+6Her name is Sarah Lane.
And no, Kevin shouldn't lose Alex as a co-host. Both of them balance each other so well that the whole show doesn't turn into a heavily pro-Apple/pro-Windows podcast. They both have their loyalties and seeing them argue on certain topics is so much more interesting than both of them agreeing on everything. - D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Wow, the Digg-related Snakes on a Plane jokes are inevitable...I hope they hit some turbulence and Kevin freaks out...
Plus you know it's going to be hilarious because he hates flying so he's going to be completely wasted prior to getting on the flight....Should be amazing...
I think anyone who gets their story on that episode should get to be on the plane. - WeeklyGeek, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3No, I believe that some people find this entertaining. There is a bit of a conflict of interest, however, once you start posting EVERY SINGLE UPDATE to this show on Digg, and it instantly hits the front page. What about other serial content? What about TWiT updates? What about Tiki Bar TV updates, or any other video/audio podcast?
It's up on the front page because Digg has fanboys. It's ok to like something. It's not ok to blindly worship people and push content to the front page of a site that is supposed to be all about EVERYONE picking the news. If I were Kevin I would find a way to give my own content less of a chance to hit the front page, just out of modesty. - xGORDOx, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Come on, like Diggnation isn't about them and only them.
At least when they are in a bar they aren't contributing to more global warming. Whats the chemical composition of the exhaust of an Airbus?
It's acceptable though right? cuz, you know, it's (D)igg. - cplusplus, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2They are mildly amusing to watch. But their gushing endorsement of an airline they have never flown on was a bit nuts. Obviously they are getting some payment for that. Makes me not ready to trust them so much.
Another thing, it wasn't "live" as the title suggests. There was obviously some editing. - kayla, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2If you're on "Hot Lips" please look for the camera that I lost there.
