- notque, on 01/05/2008, -2/+26Digg is just going to bury this again. On digg, we aren't aloud to discussing bannings. We have freedom insomuch as they allow it.
- inactive, on 01/05/2008, -1/+23Let's hope that this one will get to Kevin ears, and the long waited answer will come.
- oboy, on 01/05/2008, -0/+22The last one that was autoburied about digg bannings still got 244 Diggs and 68 comments because it got shouted.
- phnx0221, on 01/05/2008, -1/+18FTA: "Is Digg “cleaning house” for the big sale? Probably not. It makes more sense that they are simply completely automating the process so that human maintenance of the website is reduced. From a sale perspective, it just makes sense.
Sense or no sense... it is still absolutely wrong to ban users and offer no explanation, no possible recourse."
That makes perfect sense. I really hope that the digg Admins see this and other articles and work to rectiy that problem. Even if they are getting ready to sell, and aren't as vested into the personal aspects of digg, or their customer service, it might be a bunk deal if there are more bans without explanations imposed on users who are really active and care about this community. Should this continue to happen in such a way, it would have a really negative effect on the user base, and no company is going to want to close a deal only to find diminishing users and a general unhappiness with the way things are run. - notque, on 01/05/2008, -0/+16I shouted that one, and I shouted others and they all get autoburied by digg. They do not accept us discussing bannings.
- MakiMaki, on 01/05/2008, -0/+15I think its great that people are discussing this topic and writing articles about it because this doesn't just apply to 'top diggers' but the entire populace of Digg users. Digg's Terms of Use gives them absolute power over users... here is the line which states so:
"Digg may remove any Content and Digg accounts at any time for any reason (including, but not limited to, upon receipt of claims or allegations from third parties or authorities relating to such Content), or for no reason at all."
"For no reason at all" is the keyphrase to note here and probably the reason why user queries can go unanswered. I love Digg and will continue to support it by using it often but it's a little disappointing to see the lack of communication between users and Digg support. - notque, on 01/05/2008, -0/+14Whose to say Kevin doesn't agree with the autobury of anything concerning bans. He has just as much to gain by avoiding the topic as anyone.
- verge, on 01/05/2008, -1/+14time of death, 2:13. 27 diggs, 6 comments within 1.5 hours.
- phnx0221, on 01/05/2008, -0/+12I'm shouting this one too. Hopefully, with the amount of discussion on this topic, and the number of threads, someone may see it and do something to fix it. One can hope anyway...
- verge, on 01/05/2008, -0/+11it is removed from upcoming however
- notque, on 01/05/2008, -0/+11Now it's been buried.
- verge, on 01/05/2008, -0/+11Another interesting portion of digg tos is part 13:
TERMINATION. Digg may terminate or suspend any and all Services and your Digg account immediately, without prior notice or liability, if you breach any of the terms or conditions of the Terms of Use.
Questions remain as to whether 0boy and/or Emobrat and/or others violated anything. Two digg users nat'ed behind a router does not violate TOS. But... a deaf ear, a blind eye, and a calloused ban button is the answer diggers are given.
rubbish - 97thfloor, on 01/06/2008, -0/+10The auto burying of anti Digg stories is so ridiculous, it is just as bad as the banned no explanation crap. One thing I love about Reddit is all the suggestion stories telling Reddit what to change all make the front page and they stay there for a long time.
- UtubReptilian, on 01/05/2008, -0/+10no comment
- verge, on 01/05/2008, -0/+10yer right. bear with me, until it is autoburied, i'm still learning how to do it right.
- gbarberi, on 01/06/2008, -0/+978 Diggs... should be the hottest news in the Tech category right now, but it's just gone. Top right now only has 37 diggs.
- notque, on 01/05/2008, -0/+9That's the very reason we need a digg that is entirely participant controlled.
- notque, on 01/05/2008, -1/+9It's still there,
http://digg.com/search?s=banned+hand&submit=Search ... - inactive, on 01/06/2008, -0/+7haha, I can't believe you -actually- said that! :)
- geddon, on 01/07/2008, -0/+7Digg is a social network. To date, these networks have attracted massive numbers of fans that are able to move at a moments notice. When you look at the progression from Diaryland to Friendster to MySpace to Facebook, you'll notice an obvious trend: mess with your primary fanbase and they'll move on to the next big thing. Digg is not immune to these trends.
- phnx0221, on 01/06/2008, -0/+7Pshaw! Talk to the hand cuz the head ain't listening! Wow, I haven't said that in fifteen years! lol
- inactive, on 01/05/2008, -1/+7Sounds like it's gotten to his head, but I guess that's not what you meant.
- inactive, on 01/05/2008, -1/+6talk to the hand Amy, talk to the hand!
- SilentJay74, on 01/07/2008, -1/+5I am gonna chime in. If you don't like what is going on at Digg, just leave. To tell you the truth Digg DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOU. They have made this apparent. Unless people are planning to revolt nothing is going to happen. I am not as active on Digg as I once was. Guess what DIGG COULD CARE LESS. It is a sad truth. I don't like this ***** as much as the next guy. I kicked the crap out of Digg on my podcast. Notice the "polish the turd" comment on the article. I was the one who said it. The only way this is going to be brought to public knowledge is if some BIG tech journalists brings it to light. I mean CNET or Veronica Beumont, someone with major clout in Silicon Valley. You wanna shed light? Start sending mass e-mails to big tech publications, other then that..you're screwed.
- cafefort, on 01/11/2008, -0/+3PLEASE :
1) STOP being "automatically" a Kevin's fan.
2) STOP digging "automatically" Kevin's submissions (he got 100% popular!!)
In digg, Kevin's but a normal user as YOU. If digg is managed by real algorithms then the algorithm does not have to descriminate anyone. Kevins is a human being, right?
Now, please spread. - cafefort, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2That's what results in everyone being a fan of Kevin. In everyone digging what Kevins submits. You made him a king. No assume!
- Heysal, on 01/07/2008, -3/+1Fair - unfair. The bottom line is this is someone else's house and we must respect their rules - even if we don't understand or really much like them. That is what makes propaganda so easily controlled. I must point out that this site is going crazy busy and you can bet that the moderators are going to make some mistakes and probably don't have much time to tell everyone why they are banned. Some should already know in cases of blatant spam or TOS violations. Now as far as partnering up to digg just to be seen -- sorry, that reminds me of how our politicians are acting, and we see what that is doing -- for them anyway.
Take the lump - discontinue whatever it is they don't like, and just move on. Most of us have been deleted from some forum somewhere now and again. Blow it off. - inactive, on 01/06/2008, -14/+3LOL
Liberalism in action.
Digg can do what they want.
What I'm referring to is the those Diggers that use the service...for free...to promote their agenda...offer all kinds of lewd expletives...contribute little but a handful of hipshot low brow remarks.....
And then tell Digg how it's gonna be.
I'm guessing these same folks might carve up graffiti on trees in a public forest, leave trash everywhere, mess up the outhouses and then complain about what a poor job the Forest Service is doing.
Hey Digg...Start charging a fee!
