- nuclearpenguins, on 10/12/2007, -21/+269Good. I was sick of seeing the front page filled with stories from the same users every damned day.
- MatttK, on 10/12/2007, -4/+96@Raftysworld: No, not exactly. It represents these people's ability to get their stories dugg. I see plenty of bad stories submitted by popular users and plenty of good stories passed by by unpopular users.
I've also noticed that some of the top users submit dupes (sometimes even copying bits of the summary or headline) quite on purpose. For example, I noticed one of the users simply added a '#' to the end of a URL that had already been submitted earlier. These people know their story will get dugg over the "nobody's" story, so they go ahead and submit it.
Now you might ask why this really matters, as long as the story shows up at some point.. and that's a valid question. I'm not sure I have the answer. Lol. But one reason might be that it makes these people look like they're more useful sources of information than they really are.
Btw, I don't mean to imply that all top digg users are evil. Rather, I think it is just a group of people who ruin it for everybody else. - jblade, on 10/12/2007, -13/+101@Raftysworld
No it just means that they have a huge friendlist, and their friends digg the stories they submit. - ShadySpace, on 10/12/2007, -7/+85Man, Kevin Rose sure is a jerk for actively pursuing democracy and equality!
- MaddDog, on 10/12/2007, -8/+82I still see the top diggers submitting their stories, and they are getting some to the front page. But the overall quality is much higher. Good for digg. Adapt or move on.
- jerbaker, on 10/12/2007, -7/+67"Is Kevin Rose “snubbing” the very diggers that digg for the sake of Digg?"
I hope so. - totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -4/+62Should be subtitled: "Michael Arrington tries to stir up *****"
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+53Yeah, the change was good.
- ippersiel, on 10/12/2007, -3/+43Who will care who the top digger was in 1 year?
I see forum whores on various sites who have 15000+ posts and all I can think of is this guy must be a loser still living in his parents basement. - yuriw, on 10/12/2007, -5/+44Kevin Rose seems like such a great guy. You guys should really be happy he made digg. And plus, why be angry if you're not one of the top diggers anymore. Digg is a website, not a game.
- G33k0ft3chz, on 10/12/2007, -10/+46Yea and making one of the best sites on the internet in years. He sure is evil!
- MatttK, on 10/12/2007, -5/+39Make sure to add "CONFIRMED" to all Wii rumour stories as well. :)
- slicedoranges, on 10/12/2007, -11/+38One of the top submitters submitted a page with the exact URL that I submitted months earlier, his got front page, mine didn't.
- HRF1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+28I'm more concerned about the credibility of the articles posted on digg than anything else.
- headzoo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29Is this that same group of "elite" people that think they are more important to Digg's success, than they really are?
They still haven't gotten over the fact that Digg will go on without them. - G33k0ft3chz, on 10/12/2007, -6/+31The change was good, but still I can only get one to the front page every month. I guess I should add "Amazing!" "Addictive" and Wii/Apple/PS3 sucks to my stories.
Just kidding. - minox, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24I take back any negative comments I made about digg not doing anything about abuse.
- vudicarus, on 10/12/2007, -15/+33who is kevin? how about, what is wikipedia?
sorry. that was unnecessarily snarky
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_rose
one thing about reading/answering digg comments....i've become more snarky - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+24I hope he's made some algorithm changes that have a real effect.
I'm pretty sick of thinkprogress.org links submitted by aaaz in eight to ten places on the front page every damned day. I usually end up going to slashdot because that's where the grown-ups are. - oOLiquidNightOo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20waiting? looks like it's in full swing to me.
- airiox, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Yeah finally, didnt know what the new algorithm did, but if it blocks certain sites with a large viewership from whoring it up, then so be it. Will make digg much more creditable.
- OmegaNine, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18"“Powerful Digg users,” believe they are “no longer wanted” and their labors of Digg love are “no longer appreciated” by Rose’s Digg"
Its not that they are not wanted, its the fact that they are in face "Powerful digg users" not "equal digg users" - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20I am more sick of the whiners than anything else on digg
especially all the digg sucks articles, think you can do better and keep everyone happy, than by ALL MEANS do it.
Serious the Netscape thing proved that digg churns along even if someone does come by and buys out the top users, other people will fill the void.
Digg wouldn't skip a beat if the top 50 left.
[plays the worlds smallest violin for the people that feel slighted]
And really welcome to our world, you feel slighted because a small percentage of your stories wont make it to the front page day after day
well a lot of us never have our stories promoted to the front page. Well welcome back to earth.
and the title should be digg versus the small percent at the top because otherwise the algorythm helps the 99.99% of the rest of us. - MatttK, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18No, filter it out by filtering it out. Seriously, what the heck? The default is to view tech articles. That's what I left the default at. I don't see all this trash people whine about because I used the DEFAULT OPTIONS. When I feel like checking out other sections, I do that. It's all about choice.
- Asdfglpwglion, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15@Monkeywrench
click? you mean clique?
http://www.google.com/search?q=define%3Aclique - joe90210, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15all you have to do to stop such blatant amount of gaming is to remove the submitter's name and any indicator of who submitted the story until it makes the front page
- minox, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14That has to be the next frontier in revision. It really has gotten ridiculous. I mean, comparing some of the headlines to Yellow Journalism would actually be a disservice to Yellow Journalism.
- CoolSilver, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17I agree that it is slowly declining into a massive pile of raw sewage.
I am not however leaving just yet. - RyanChappell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Good to see them do something finally! Now if he could only encorage people to digg and find upcoming storied, maybe I could get an article noticed once in a while!
- rickcarson, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15Also: Who is Michael Arrington and why should we care?
- Toast1185, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13The power users will stop submitting to digg? Big deal. Digg stories have become some myopic and repetitive its unbelievable. You come on here everyday and wonder if you'll see a story about Apple and the exploits of Steve Jobs, or the evils of George Bush or some kind of MPAA/RIAA bashing and you don't even have to compromise! You get all three!
Maybe turning some of these people off will open up a more diverse front page. - vbsurfer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14what I want is a better way to view archived story's and a better check on dupes.I see stories everyday that I have seen about a month ago or so.
(maybe run bots on the copy for duplicate wording) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Have you guys seen the front page. It's lacking the cutting edge news we all love. I loved it here because I didn't see yesterday's news today.
- m0oSe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Are the top user going to leave digg or protest again? haha
- Ninjab3ar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12@slicedoranges
getting your article on the front page of digg is 90% networking, 10% interestingness of the article. If people dont have you on their friends list, then they will have no idea that you even posted an article, as opposed to top diggers with hundreds of friends. If they post an article, their friends will begin to read and digg them right away. - koregaonpark, on 10/12/2007, -7/+17It's a series of tubes.
- Phyltre, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10That might have more punch as a negative statement, minox, if the media in general were even at the level of yellow journalism itself. But, as a whole, it's not--digg stories only seem less reliable because they're chronic, immutable, and people can fact-check in the comments. ALL people, not just shills.
That's why digg articles are better than the media overall--everyone's free to call BS in the comments. Try that on CNN or FOX. - madsmith, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11What a poorly constructed article! It doesn't really tell you much about what's going on (at least not to any interesting level of detail).
The tech crunch article mentioned within this zdnet blog is a much more interesting read. (I have no comment to whether or not it is neutral).
http://www.techcrunch.com/2006/11/03/top-digg-users-feeling-snubbed/ - raid517, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Is it just me, or is the guy who is bitching just complaining because previously he was playing the numbers - and that he was potentially gaining in some way personally from this?
- inmatarian, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15Seems paradoxical to me. I seem to remember that digg has a 90 and 10 community, where 90% just read, and 10% do the work of sorting through the news and making submissions. It seems like a good idea to get the other 90 to contribute, but eliminating the 10 would cripple the site.
What Rose should do is instead of fiddling and tweaking with the Code, he should try to make some sense of his community's organization and gather a couple of representatives to talk to. - kcpwnsgman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9@MatttK, I have actually stopped submitting stories for that exact reason.
- zforrester, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11I don't know why you don't like the filters.
they seem to be pretty good.
They do exactly what you need. - Toast1185, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10see: http://www.spikethevote.com/
- DooDooFace, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Serious question: Why do people spend so much effort (assuming they do, I don't know) in trying to get their stories to the front page? Are they admired by their peers?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11All sounds good to me. I've seen the Digg mafia's hard at work, so it's nice to know Rose is ontop of keeping the infoCapones down and off the front page.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9No, but they think they are!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Its not 'just you'!
Remember, its ALWAYS the people most affected (when a change to make things fairer is introduced) that complain the most because they are suddenly playing on a more level playing field and they don't like it at all! - Walker2323, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8"This seem to backfired, have you seen the ***** stories on the front page recently?
way too many Wii fanboy stories."
I would think that the amount of Wii stories has a lot to do with the mounting excitement over a new and innovative, but still unreleased, product. Let the fanboys have their fun. - spudnic, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Would it really be so bad to turn off the topics you don't want?
- bdrydyk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Actually I think any adjective will work, given that it's in all caps.

What is Digg?
