- Leomarth, on 10/12/2007, -6/+177What he means to say is "Most of the 'net."
A lot of people who either are kids, or act like kids, get a personal sense of power from the Internet because they can do and say anything they want, without retribution. Everyone knows you can't send a punch to the face in an email, so they feel they can get away with it. - howtogeek, on 10/12/2007, -7/+113People are stupid. Not sure where the news is.
- sexyjill, on 10/12/2007, -19/+67@ Leomarth
True, but who are we to judge this behaviour? Most of the people I interact with on a daily basis in my real life are cold, bitter, lifeless drones who lack a sense of humour. I love being able to come online and immerse myself in a world when anyone of any age can kick back and act like a kid. - terribly1, on 10/12/2007, -13/+57wtf. this post is teh gay. buried for inacurasy, fags
- scabbers, on 10/12/2007, -2/+38None of you read the article, did you? It's just some spammers guide to digg, with (lol) use of it's own advice - trolling through the description.
- threepio, on 10/12/2007, -5/+40"Ignorant comments or *****" - lrn2form-a-complete-thought-without-profanity-noob.
One of the most irritating aspects of Digg is the seemingly unfathomable talent of most users to express themselves in the most ineloquent ways - thank for providing an excellent example! Cheers! - ferrofluid, on 10/12/2007, -3/+37If by 'kids' you mean naive and narrow world view, shocked by things that most adults have learned are natural or inevitably part of human nature ,
yes then true.
- Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -3/+36Yeah, I'm sixteen and *****. And ***** believe me, you'll never see me doing, like, anything, like, stupid on Digg, or ***** *****. *****, man. *****. ***** *****. This bias against young ***** people on the internet is ***** prejudiced, and *****.
- thatsmyaibo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+35"For me its the opposite. I'm 15 and love coming to the internet, where I won't be judged by a number and will be more judged on by my replies, intellectual level and so forth."
That may be true (and I respect that) but their are a lot of people on Digg now that have 1 track, bias minds that won't take part in intellectual debate. Instead they will digg down anything they don't like and erase traces of valid comments because they don't agree with it. - Nougat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31@boing (#6160652)
So what if you were to say, "Bush is gay?" How would that go over? - trekkie, on 10/12/2007, -4/+33If 90% of the comments in these articles is any representation of 'geeks' then the name has been taken over by idiotic children.
The flames & trash talking here isn't geeks. If it was geeks, everything would be broken down into a Star Wars vs. Star Trek or Battlestar vs. Star Destroyer discussion with a few good Linux vs Windows and Linux vs. Windows and a few Mac OS X 'get him spike' comments.
It's children, plain and simple. - NJHewitt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29Here, this new Pope! I think he's a Catholic!
And you'll never guess what I saw a bear doing out in the woods today... - titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -4/+29Myspace is ruled by Rupert Murdoch, everyone else is just his bitch.
- EverAB, on 10/12/2007, -9/+33For me its the opposite. I'm 15 and love coming to the internet, where I won't be judged by a number and will be more judged on by my replies, intellectual level and so forth.
- Morphinity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24Have you *been* to Myspace lately?
When they say "rule", do they mean the people who created it or the people who populate it? - Boing, on 10/12/2007, -8/+31I've taken the liberty to fix their suggestions:
What not to do:
Bash gays
What to do:
Bash Bush - mehss, on 10/12/2007, -4/+25This was a terrible article.
- ToastPop, on 04/17/2009, -1/+22Geeks who act childish and get their power fix by insulting people over the internet.
- airwalkery2k, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Actually, MySpace is ruled by Phishers. It was a violent coup d'etat.
- DrScott, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17No, it is ruled by Kidiots.
- Trance750, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15I can buy that theory. The internet, despite the huge amounts of information and resources, can also breed the very worst of humanity. People can behave as cruel or mean-spirited as they'd wish, behind the privacy and protection of a computer screen, knowing full well they are safe from any retaliation or confrontation.
But get these same people face-to-face and have to defend their comments or actions, and they'd be peeing their pants. - Obsydian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Anyone acting childish is usually dugg down. If it's funny, regardless of its level of immaturity, it's funny, and we're all cool enough to keep it that way.
- Jabertsohn, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15I am 18 and constantly being dugg down by kids, they call me oldie and poke fun at my aged appearance. True Story.
- bergur1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Digg us ruled by people like bonlebon who submit as much ***** as they can and have hundreds of friends. I had you as a friend once, I know. I look at people like bonlebon and he, along with other top diggers submit at least 100 stories per day. Even out the field a little.
The comment section is ruled by kids (15 myself). - jackyyll, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Was the bear *****? He was wasn't he! Those sneaky bastards!
- Copperhe4d, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14What not to do
* Self promote
* Add biased information
* Pay for votes
* Break community rules
* Spam – you will get caught
What to do
* Submit storys about Al Sharpton, Ubuntu, Wii, iPhone and atheism
* Use great titles and descriptions (AMAZING, AWESOME, even TOP 10)
* Become a top user by creating alot of accounts, digg yourself to the frontpage and you will gain friends
* Submit at the right time (submit seems to work at best, when everybody is bashing something) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Digg is an excellent platform for hecklers. Mostly, Adolescent hecklers, expressing their infantile ideas from the safety of the basement of their parents' house.
- BryanUT, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12So why hasn't this site suffered the Digg Effect?
*****, I'm 50 years old, can we take him down? - iloveroundtable, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Digg may or may not be kids, but if you read through the comment section of any digg article, no matter what it is about, people are constantly trying to one up each other and/or see who can be the most clever.
That behavior is juvenile, but it's the whole internet ***** theory. - CogitatorX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I thought Digg was ruled by angry Nerds.
- HuFlungPu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Masturbating?? Blame it on Conan.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10"As well as being the CTO for ACS, I am currently the evangelist for Text Link Ads and I attend a great deal of trade shows and conferences on their behalf as well as blog on Link Building Blog. I am also obtaining a business degree from California State University of Fullerton such that I can learn more about business and add value to Text Link Ads and ACS."
Just like I thought... another douchebag that is turning the internet into one giant linkfarm for some pennies. - uberdesigner, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Digg is run by idiot fanboy children.
- dengzhi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8"the power of anonymity is very corrupting"
- Cyberdactyl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I guess that's why I've only been to Myspace only a few times. The flavor of almost every page reminds my of a high school locker after 3 years of neglect.
- 1n4007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@trekkie:
Please don't confuse geeks with nerds. They may be similar in many ways, but they're not the same. - ichbinladen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Digg is a troll's paradise.
- sgstarling, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8NOBITING,
The mistake you and many kids make is that by thinking any of this... this... 'contributing', somehow makes you an 'adult'. All this 'social networking' web stuff is bs. Do you really think the comments written on digg amount to a hill of beans? hint: they don't.
So much of these sites have so many kids writing on them. Just wait till they grow up and get real responsibilities... they'll be lucky to find an hour a day to 'surf'. And then when you do, it's mostly for quick info, and bargain internet shopping. Then it's back to real life. Work, taxes, sleep, work, taxes, sleep.
ack. I'm wasting my time too! :) - Enlightenment, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8It is fairly obvious there are a bunch of "Johnny Come Lately" ... "My Mommy Bought Me A Computer" ... "$h*t Talk'n A$$hole$" ... "I'm a loser, so I do this all day" punks on here.
Any article titles that have the following words in the title is likely by one of kiddie punk wannabe's. Digg needs to add some of these words to the permanent block list for titles, I'm serious!
- BEST, COOLEST, HOTEST (almost all words ending in EST).
- AMAZING, AWESOME, COOL
- TOP XX
- EVER
Type of things that give a clue the comment is from some young punk:
- End of comment has a bunch of CAPITALIZED texting words like PLZ THNK K and so on to make them look K00L.
- At use of the words: retard, retarded, tard, owned.
- Using shortened versions of words commonly used in texting.
- Replacing numbers in words, such as THR33.
- Replacing similar sounding letters in words, such as K00L.
- Having a cool handle that most adults would not have: PimpMyBitches.
- Any manglish (mangled english) that make them sound like a rapper / hip hop wanna-be.
- Digg down people because you can't handle the truth. - jus1haz2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6http://www.pandia.com/sew/429-link-baiting.html
Wow can you say this story is spam....
Although they are right about submitting your story and the perfect time helps you hit front page. - BlackNapkins, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Your average Digg user is a 15 year old who becomes an atheist to rebel against his parents under the guise as being "sophisticated" by reading Richard Dawkins, a mac user whose sole reason for switching is because "lol microsoft is for those business people like on the commercials" (if not a mac user an Ubuntu user who proclaims to all of his friends how much more advanced Linux is than their corporate windows box and proudly exclaims to the Digg world the newest list of Top 10 UNIX commands he found on a blog), an attention whore who counts his submissions and ridicules others because they promote their own site here when they don't know the first thing about economics.
On the other end is a lowly IT sector employee in cubicle 5ac who spends his money on thinkgeek.com so he can have a usb desklamp.
That leaves the hip college kid who is "ahead of the pack" because he is taking advanced Java classes while all his friends are taking business. He brands himself a "geek" because "no one understands him". He posts with joy a picture of "the best sunrise he has ever seen" HI RES (1040X768).
tl;dr
Will it blend? - pjkli, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9@Copperhe4d
You just hit the nail on the head.
If you don't submit something or make positive comments about anything that has a fanboy base (ie Al Sharpton, Ubuntu, Wii, iPhone, atheism, or anything else that makes these kids feel like they know something) then you get ridiculed and dugg down. - tomoleary, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Hi, I'm Chris Hanson and you're on Dateline NBC. Your screen name was Neil Patel, and according to your transcript, you thought you were talking to a group of 2 year old boys. Why did you continue in that online relationship?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"Digg has become FAR more juveile and immature than MySpace lately."
Which is perfectly ok as long as they keep their embryonal worldview away from "world and business" section. - rouslan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This is why I hate Digg. I have seen many good articles go unnoticed with ***** ending up on the front page. I also disapprove of the comment digg, since sometimes immature users digg comments down, thus hiding the message just because they disapprove or do not agree with it. Pure democracy has gone too far. I'm expecting diggers to digg this comment down to -200 diggs right now.
- Okari, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9I'm 12. Want to come over to my house?
- wheres, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6the article isn't even about digg and stumbleupon users being kids... it's more about how to get lots of traffic to your blog
buried! - goffy59, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5agreed, anyone who disagrees is probably one of those stupid kids on myspace.
- scabbers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Digg ruled by people who don't even read the story submitted before digging and/or commenting. MEGA LULZ.
