- snypa, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26Alexa toolbar ***** is a load of crap, it hardly represents a decent proportion of users of digg, cnet, apple etc etc
- puke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20Keep in mind that the results are probably quite skewed due to digg users using the alexa toolbar. Remember the whole alexa rating shootup that turned out to be because of digg?

Same kinda thing. Alexa ratings don't mean a whole lot. - foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19This is extremely embarrasing. It means people who use alexa visit Digg.....
- RichPowers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Very true. I wonder how many "normal Joe" web users even know Alexa exists?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+21Too bad Slashdot still has better comments.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Rephrase as "How many digg users would willingly use the alexa toolbar?"
- caldroun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8other than a few people...most people I know don't know who/what Digg is.
How can this be right? I don't have the Alexa toolbar nor does anyone I know. I don't think that they are very accurate. Or the have a SMALL sampling. - LucasVB, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I hate you both.
- mikev, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7alexa ratings suck.. im sure digg is more popular but i don't think it is really more popular than apple/bbc
- thedove, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13holy jesus, hey that ain't bad, go digg!
- appleswitch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"Microsoft is ranked higher than Apple" ( fixed for IQ )
Well Alexia runs in IE on windows and not Firefox, Safari, Opera or Camino; that's a little something to consider. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Yeah, because we all know that people go to several dozen Dell pages a day.
Give ma a break.
Over 99.9% of hte country have NO idea that Digg exists. And only about 1% that do know go here more than once a week. - Fimus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7And yet the fraction of users that Alexa tracks places Digg that high.
- chardudett, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4well craigslist is pretty well known in the bay area/california for job finding, apartment hunting, car selling, etc?
- diggAddict, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9 At least there are more Diggers than Mac users - thats not hard ;-)..
- kotton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Post something worth selling on craigslist and watch your inbox fill up with responses, and if your brave put a phone number. You will be surprised how many people use craigslist, and that isn't even covering all the people who just enjoy reading the ridiculous personal adds for fun :o).
- BenClueless, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Wow, a news site with new stories every few minutes getting more hits than a computer company's site! Who would have thought!?
- crilen007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No, because alexa is an infection.
- surfit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Alexa has been extremely unreliable ever since Microsoft stopped bundling it with IE. It is a shame there's nothing similar, those tradition ratings companies are worse.
- liquilife, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Craigslist is hugely popular. Craigslist has captured the geek and the normal computer user. Everyone has heard of craigslist. :)
- ttntyler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It's probably less than a percent..
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Anyone have any idea WTF happen to make digg get that huge leap in traffic? It went form like zero to 60 overnight lol
http://dealhackers.com/untitled.JPG - yakito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Alexa is fabricating its data... I don't know one single person who uses Alexa's toolbar. Why would I put Alexa's toolbar?
IE or FF should give the option to track that kind of data... then we will see some real rankings. - LDawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Digging Digg.com" isn't self promotion. It's *us*, the users, that are promoting it. You digg what you find interesting -- Digg itself doesn't decide. These ARE external sources.
Thus, your analogy to the NY times is a bad one. - bigcheeze111, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is it possible that Alexa is in alliance with some of the larger companies that provide toolbars.. i.e. Google... Yahoo???
Just a thought. - bigcheeze111, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When digg starts facilitating my job search.. That'll be the day when it's more valuable to me than cragslist.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh please! Can digg please get over digg?
Yes, it's popular. Message received. Move on!
It's so annoying to see digg become the subject matter of digg articles, over and over again. It's a bit like the NY Times running stories about how great the NY Times is.
The best press is press from external sources. The rest is indirect advertising. - diafel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Honestly, I'm a little dubious of the results. Here we are after this so called user boom, and yet the average Digg link has less than a 1000 diggs. The top Digg of all time has a mere 15000 diggs.
- DirtyWorker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Alexia is the root of all evil. It's even used a reason to delete articles from Wikipedia "THE SITE IS NOT POPULAR ENOUGH, IT ONLY HAS A RANKING OF 1 GAZZILIONBILLION ON ALEXIA!!!!1111oneoneone" God I hate people who rely on ***** like this. -.-
- Hugues, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You don't get Apple info on Apple's website. You get products and advertising. Who cares!
So yes, all Apple users come here for Apple info. How surprising.
Moreover, with the tons of rumors site, aggregation ain't a luxury. - LDawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oops, there's no submit button during an edit...my bad for dupe, and poorly edited original post.
- LDawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Maybe enough of you aren't digging my submission!
J/K, I'm not sure which number is more accurate. - TimSee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Digg may be more popular than apple.com or dell.com but people spend $$ there...if only popularity = profitability.
- miket019, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@crilen: yes i agree, alexa is an infection. let's see who can up with a better excuse.
- Broccoli, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Wouldnt surpirse me it passed apple, apple.com isnt exactly a site you go when your bored or vist every day of the week multiple times.
- Four20, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I agree that Craig's List is more popular than Digg. But only with the factor of time. Give Digg enough time and it will be bigger than Craig's List.
- artgon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1not quite as popular as facebook though..
- Glenn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I dont see how Digg can be more popular than Apple, especially since yesterday, but great stuff anyway..
- iceman35, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0when i go to alexa to see the digg rank, it comes up that digg is 95
http://www.alexa.com/data/details/main?q=&url=digg.com - zzap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yay4 digg
- LDawg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Well, your analogy is a bad one, because "Digging Digg.com" isn't self promotion. It's *us*, the users, that are promoting it. You digg what you find interesting -- Digg itself doesn't decide. These ARE external sources.
Thus, your analogy to the NY times is a bad one. - Crass22, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3thats cause there are so many apple fanboys on digg.
- 4NDr01D, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1does anyone else just hate CNET's Blog?
I read their RSS feed, but their stories are
ridiculous ad fests with one paragraph and
a link to some other completely useless
CNET article. It is seriously the least favorite
of all 60 of my RSS feeds, I'd un-sub, but they
do have a unique story occasionally
glad Digg is doing well! - scorwitz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Yeay!! I was there on the first day of Digg. I feel like my baby has grown up...or more like Kevin Rose's baby, who I got to use everday, has grown up. Ok, that sounds bad.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1It's bigger than Jesus.
- miket019, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Oh look at all the poor Apple fanboys trying to find an excuse for Apple being low on the list behind Microsoft.
Now you can all dugg me. - Four20, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I was just going to say. Digg only has .5 million registered members. That's what 1.5-3.0(generous) million visitors to the site. Which there could be another 2 million people, that know about Digg, but do not visit.
There's well over 5-10 million that know about Apple, Dell, CNET(not so much), and BBC(more than cnet, but again, not so much).
Remember the US population is at or almost to 300 million. - DiscusRapidus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2That's not shocking... only half of the stories link back to apple.
- bigcheeze111, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I go to apple site more than 1x a day.. Just to read the forums. Think i'm a fanboi? ; - )
And by the way, Alexa is ranked by absolute page views along with some other criteria. Think about how many pages you view on here per day.. I'd say I look at well over a 100 - KrisL, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3whos gonna goto apple's site every day?? if you would ask every person in the US what apple is vs what digg is im pretty sure apple will win..
