- cody50, on 10/12/2007, -9/+86Ever since i've been to digg, i've never gone anywhere else to get news. its the place to be and I hope it still is years from now.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+53Often imitated, never duplicated.
- treelovinhippie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28How the hell did Netscape even get to #5???
I visited their site about a week ago and the number of "diggs" per story was averaging 25 and none were getting over 50.
Surely there are dozens of more populated, people-powered sites out there than NS. - eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -4/+26I usually complement this place with Slashdot, Fark, and the CBC. I end up reading a lot of stuff on the others that I read here 6 hours later, but I like Digg for the comments. It's interesting to see what people think.
- LocoMoco, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22"Netscape came in waaay behind at #5."
I haven't been to Netscape in like 6 years, Back then it sucked and I'm sure it still sucks today. - titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20Netscape may be successful but that still doesn't make up for the massive amount of people that hate it.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Sorry, one more comment, this is funny.
Netscape's downfall came just as Digg was born: http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?&range=2y&size=large&compare_sites=digg.com&y=r&url=netscape.com#top - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Wow! Newsblaze.com sure pulls in lot of weight.[/sarcasm]
- eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -7/+14@csmyth
Now, in addition to hating Netscape, I hate you. - dezmd, on 10/12/2007, -4/+111. Netscape shouldn't even be on this list. I'd venture to say even slashdot has more 'community power' of its news than netSCRAPE.
2. i use diggdot.us it lets me see digg, delicious, slashdot and a few others all on one page, with quick links to the main story link AND digg/etc.
3. Digg is by far the best of the lot. - AmishJedi, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12The distance from #1 to #5 isn't that much. But Netscape doesss suck. A lot.
- tekmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Slashdot wasn't even considered. This article only considers websites that allow users to vote on stories in a digg-like fashion. The other four pale in comparison. Although, to be fair, slashdot is people-powered as users submit all the news and slashdot is fueled by its strong commenting base.
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"How the hell did Netscape even get to #5???"
Bribes? - enrico1982, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Fark aint even on the list, i would have thought apart from digg, it is far more popular than any of the others.
- ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7DIGG HAS THE POPULARITY
reddit has the community and intellectual comments of /.
(if you disagree, go check it out before modding me down) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"Netscape? are they still making browsers?"
No but they are definately making me close mine everytime I surf over there. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6How the hell is netscape even on the list? Does anyone even go there?
There must not be enough digg dupes out there. - killerCoder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Top 25 with average number of votes for top 20

I guess they didn't visit on one of the "25 front page bush hate deranged, or conspiracy kooks" stories on the front page days. - spitfire6006006, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6yea, you should be able to take back a comment thumb up or down
- Hindu_Wardrobe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5w00t! Reddit at #2!
I wouldn't be able to live without Digg and Reddit. :) - csmyth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Actually it odd that you cite copying a TV show as a an example something you wouldn't get away with copying. Seems like 9 out of 10 TV shows are copies of some other show.
I see the digg mechanism as a genre of social news being adopted/copied by others because it works. As the "courtroom/cop drama" (e.g. Law and Order), a genre of TV is being cloned rampantly because it too works (with the masses).
(hey, "Maw and Morder" could be a hit! have your people talk to me people :) - t3hX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Yeah, they are. It's basically firefox, but it's Netscape.
- Agret, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3So is Digg v3 though. The old digg had a much cleaner UI.
- zeptobyte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3In other news, there are more than 5 people-powered news sites.
- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -11/+14#27 Profit. Oh and BTW the only time Netscape was good (same with AOL) was before they existed.
- absmith1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Newsblaze? Someone trying to draft in Digg's wake perhaps?
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6OK, according to alexa.com, it is actually the past two years that they have been diving from a cliff:
http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?&range=max&size=large&compare_sites=&y=r&url=netscape.com - Esprit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It's interesting that, at the bottom of the article, there is a link to 'Digg this article'.
- Agret, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Then you should goto Slashdot or reddit. Digg doesn't have many insightful comments, it's more full of spammers and people just saying "cool" or saying something completely retarted than the other 2 sites.
- spitfire6006006, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3according to the numbers near the middle of the article, netscape is only on there because of a lack of competition, it had about 21 votes to digg's 447, and netscape is already an established brand name (and a lot of people who really know nothing about technology, ie. people who use aol (who owns netscape) know the name netscape)
- diggn_it, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Talk about "often imitated", I couldn't believe my eyes! Those sites look almost identical, down to the "digg it sign under the number of diggs. Except it not diggs, its "Shouts" or "votes" or "notes" or "BUNCH OF FREAKING CLONES!". This is like me deciding to make my own crime television show about the police and the DA, and calling it "Maw and Morder". And if I did that I'd get my legs sued off. Sorry for the rant, but it makes me mad how people get away with carbon copying ideas. As that one guy said, copying is not the sincerest form of flattery, its plagiarism.
- BuddyChrist, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5#5 for netscape is a bit high up on the list.
- mousky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's the weekly "positive story about digg" submission. Nothing like preaching to the converted. Yawn.
- kristena983, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't think his brother is fat but I understand your point.
- bioskope, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i cant begin to imagine why people wud opt to go to a site like shoutwire. I havent seen one news topic that doesnt end up being some kind of racial abuse
- csmyth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@digg_it
Aren't you plagiarizing "that one guy"? - totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Netscape? are they still making browsers?
- unitedstatians, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I personally would've added Slashdot.org & Fark.com to the list.
- wirah, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Well I have no idea why Netscape is even on this list to begin with. It would have been a slap in the face if they weren't even listed, but it's a slap they deserve for desperately copying Digg after realising Netscape hasn't been worth ***** for years.
- skunkman62, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2you guys are that are dis'ing netscape are pretty lame. profit sharing with the submitters is the new business model for the internet. is digg sharing their profits with the top submitters that are making them rich?
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5Netscape isn't successful.. their traffic has been rapidly declining for the past 5 years..
As for their web browser, it's as good as gone by now. Even though it's not as bad as internet explorer. - ganlet, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3best part of digg for me is the comments.
- Tweekster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Then what the ***** happened to digg in the last 2 weeks?
it went from great to ***** of conspiracy polticis laden *****.
the tech articles have gone down the drain, but most of even those try to drop some political agenda into it.
congratulations, you have surpassed slashdot in crappyness. - spitfire6006006, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3no, but if it weren't for digg, those people wouldn't be making all that money, netscape paid the top people from digg to come to netscape, not the top people at netscape
- Tweekster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i personally would have removed, well every single one of them from the list...
- spitfire6006006, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2technically, yes, but not really, look at the numbers
- Stopher, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1That's a pretty narrowly defined category.
- tdskate, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Who's still thinking about Netscape... like who are they again ..
- diggn_it, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2ha ha. No I'm quoting. If you cant tell the difference, go back to third grade. Or if it was a joke, disregard all but the ha ha :)
