- warpdragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I don't really trust results from a company that determines rank from the page views based on the number of people who have their spyware toolbar installed. It assumes that it is distributed easily and no one uninstalls it. I'd bet that Digg is higher, both because many users use Firefox and those left on IE are smart enough not to install the toolbar. I find the entire system very suspect.
- NoOneButMe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Top 500 websites = 45% of the traffic, P2P = 45% of the traffic, so .. what .. email and porn get 10%? :P
- jasqwerty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Anyone know wtf 220.181.27.54 is?
Is there some MASSIVE Chinese trojan we all don't know about since November? - frosted, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Digg is in the top 500 websites, if you include porn, that would be about 3.14159265358979323.....trillion over all.
- N432SEAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Alexa ratings aren't perfect, but they work pretty much the same way as TV ratings. People rarely complain that TV ratings are biased, even though they are based on a very similar metering system that a small subset of viewers have in their homes.
- pooper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1reminds me of this from the simpsons...
Carl: You're the Internet's #1 non-porno site.
Lenny: Which makes you ten trillionth overall. - snowboarder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Its still averages...
- teslatug, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Alexa may be crap for total ranking, but it's a pretty good indicator for growth (among those using the toolbar): http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?&range=6m&size=large&compare_sites=slashdot.org&y=t&url=www.digg.com
- spadin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why is 220.181.27.54 the 28th most visited site on the internet? Must be a virus?
http://www.alexa.com/site/ds/top_sites?ts_mode=lang&lang=en - aaronmcohen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19 down, 490 to go!
- sn0wflake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's funny because I changed my start page from slashdot.org to digg.com only a few hours ago. I've been reading slashdot.org for years by lately it just bores me with all those Linux geeks that are flaming Microsoft.
- en3r0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hey! Good news guys, Alexa is NOT a measurment of internet traffic as a whole. Some of us don't like spyware.
- mutant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Alexa??!
Alexa is ***** trash.. Why is this news? - teh_toaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1that explains all the idiots that have been hangin' around.
- abid786, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I've been reading slashdot.org for years by lately it just bores me with all those Linux geeks that are flaming Microsoft."
Digg is Apple/Google lovers bashing microsoft........... - bit2bit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0... well done, digg, go on ... congratulations ...
- Yankidank, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not going to bother readin the rest of the comments, but I assume that someone was smart enough to post that alexa.com isn't very accurate at all. It takes it as just a survey of users surfing with the alexa toolbar installed. This doesn't make it accurate because it's taking a very small sample from a very specific type of people.
- da5id, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I would like to take this opportunity to thank cody, alex, humburd, headfat, sare, and all thr rest -- you know who you are. JMK
- investr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0We really need an edit button here for our posts. I am know am idiot. here is a snapshot of the traffic..

http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?&range=6m&size=medium&y=r&url=www.digg.com#top - Nation, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Alexa = crap
- RWTechgage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Top 500 websites = 45% of the traffic, P2P = 45% of the traffic, so .. what .. email and porn get 10%? :P"
I said of "website' traffic.. e-mail and P2P are not even included in that 100%. The other 10+ Million websites account for the other 55%. - sophiaperennis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0del.icio.us is following close behind at # 495.
- p014k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0digg effect :(
- ipoddj, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Digg! Good for you! Let's do a party ;D
- SilentBobSC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't really consider it spyware, I've done hundred of system cleanings and all I ever see from Alexa is a tracking cookie.... mostly harmless (DNA reference)...
- LtData, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Should I be happy that people that use Alexa found Digg or scared?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I use the A9 toolbar. I know there are privacy concerns but I have really grown used to being able to search my browsing history. How many times have you remembered surfing a cool site only to forget the exact link location? With your history searchable you can pretty easily find those. It becomes your own mini-internet and I often incorporate it into my web searches.
They have a pretty clear privacy policy which does not offend me terribly. Also, I really honestly just don't car if people know what sites I visit. Oh, lastly I get a pi/2 discount at Amazon for using it. - snowboarder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0alexa uses averages... just like tv's nelson's ratings... its somewhat accurate but not dead one.
- p2btech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Gee I almost cared
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Congrats to Kevin and Co. on this one. Can't wait for the future expansion of this site. It really has been a great addition to the internet.
- lashray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0so list the other 499, with links, so I can see what the hell I'm missing.
- brainScan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Clearly, this count is for non-geek, spyware-susceptible users. A lot of the highest page counts are for default webpages, like msn.com and comcast.net, for users who don't know how to change their start page.
- leonbev, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What is really scary is that Digg's daily page views are almost identical to Slashdot's now. Oh how the mighty have fallen...
- suprfli, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Digg deserves it. Love the site.

Digg is number 957 according to Netcraft, and they are a more trusted source here is the link: http://toolbar.netcraft.com/stats/topsites?s=4628FCAF8226EA31871D0E6DC40F#957 - jasqwerty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ yankidank & others
LOL, more idiots that don't grasp statistics.
"Durr, they didn't ask me, so it's gotta be wrong"
You people must piss yourself when anyone cites any poll results, or Nelson ratings. Do you realize that asking a few thousand people a question gives you a reasonable +/- 2% MoE, so if Alexa has a 10k install base, they can pretty much assume their results are valid.
Please provide ANY evidence that they are grossly wrong. - spareus157, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sweet!! Go digg.com!!!
- Dabellah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Isn't Alexa a piece of spyware...? I remove this off of customer PCs day in and day out...
- rndmculture, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Again... Alexa = Crap
- SilentBobSC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"What is really scary is that Digg's daily page views are almost identical to Slashdot's now. Oh how the mighty have fallen..."
If anything I would account most traffic to this comment system where we are forced to refresh again and again. There was also an interesting article a while back analyzing actual traffic flow to a website that compared the influence of each site, made for a good read... I'm just too lazy to look up the link :D
SB - mattyz789, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hmm, I never can access alexa.com. The error is always unable to connect. Maybe my IP has been blacklisted ?
- mikeod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0According to a spyware company.
- OregonTrail, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Woot! Man I've been tracking this for like two years now.
It's so heartwarming.... - sophiaperennis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Isn't Alexa a piece of spyware...? I remove this off of customer PCs day in and day out..."
The Alexa Toolbar is considered a data-mining issue, which only works on Internet Explorer, as far as I know. You can read more at: http://www.spywareguide.com/product_show.php?id=418 -
