- shadcrkd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+58Aren't Alexa ratings based on people who have the Alexa Toolbar? I mean, really, do you know many people who use that?
- neokyotodragon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+46Alexa is so inaccurate...why do people keep citing it as evidence?
- sockpuppets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+40I think I rented that once.
- soogy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+42And nicejews.
- themastersb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+34Wait.... explain to me how Yahoo beats Google.
- AlanKc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22I agree Alexa is inaccurate, but would you like to give a better website for citing?
- TheCoreman, on 10/12/2007, -12/+33What can I say? Digg is the bomb!
- panique, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22What can I say? Alexa has an unequaled reality distortion field.
- Shirk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22To a deluxe apartment... in the sky.
- noseeme, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19***** Alexa.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -15/+28Yes but for how long? Anyone can have a digg site using http://pligg.com
- bdxphoenix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12None.
My mom gave up, now she uses a hammer to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll pop. - SirBriggs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12142.18
No, I'm serious. - drjekelmrhyde, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Yahoo been over Google for a while whats so hard about that Google is bigger than Yahoo search wise but Yahoo have tons of email users
- baxtermaddux, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10why have we still not got an accurate ratings system? its the damned internet. this shouldnt be that hard
- DownSyndrom3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10That is a good question. Another good question is how many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10it's just good to see apple still low on the list... digg down now plz...
- driftwood07, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9yahoo is in first . wow .
- jman8888, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6:) Thats actually cool.
- hamstu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@drjekelmrhyde: You make a good point, but please start using punctuation in your sentences. Thanks.
- 47knight, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Yea how on earth is Yahoo over Google?
- Four20, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7as Kevin said, when he started Digg, it was an experiment. I do enjoy the geek/tech focus Digg has, but can't wait until it gets a massive amount of users. . .like an ebay or amazon size
I mean lets face it. as commented earlier there is pligg. . .even if digg gets taken over, the core user base can and eventually will migrate to another one.
and heck, there's always slashdot - drjekelmrhyde, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Yahoo mail has about 5-10 times more users than G-mail and guess where all those user go to sign in Yahoo
- fallenone05, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5it's that site where they just dugg you down
- ZachPruckowski, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You could get an accurate count if you could get a website to include a pixel-sized file hosted elsewhere. Any hit to the pixel-hosting site will have the original website as it's referrer. If the browser caches properly, the user wouldn't have to reload that pixel everytime, so it should overcount all that badly. That however, is an opt-in system requiring a trusted central authority.
Additionally, this whole page-count & hit-count thing is sort of overrated with AJAX. I can spend a while on a AJAX based site and have it technically be only one page-load. - Superthug, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I kind of wish Digg wasn't getting this popular. This is simply because there are way too many idiots on this website these days.
- D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7grammar...
- 5hop4orce, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8A comma replaces the word "and" in some headlines. You shouldn't use both.
Correction A (headline): Digg beats Flickr, breaks into the top 20 web sites in the US
Correction B (normal sentence): Digg beats Flickr and breaks into the top 20 web sites in the US.
In a normal sentence, you only use a comma before "and" when the text after "and" forms a complete sentence.
Also, "web sites" is a single word: websites. - Four20, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4yahoo may be in first, but this year google will easily be ranked 1st
- scott1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@RockStart
the original is always better. Which is somthing every digg user/techie user should know. - Mejogid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"Wait.... explain to me how Yahoo beats Google."
Alexa is based on page views, and since yahoo is a portal even if fewer people use it they will most likely generate more page views. - sockpuppets, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It's where you met me, the man behind your couch.
- JavertHolmes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah. All these statistics tell is "People who willingly or ignorantly install spyware on their system visit Digg quite a bit."
- themoose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You have to remember that Alexa isn't an accurate tool. Only 180,000 users remember - I'm sure Digg gets more than that per day.
- gerbalblaste, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3alexa depends on users who have alexa's spyware on their system.
Google is easily the number 1 site on the internet.
alexa does not reflect the majority of the internet but reflects users who know almost nothing about computers. - Llanowar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Though I do not doubt Alexa is inaccurate as I often hear.
Are there actually any accurate sites for this topic? - Jemulov, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Great Job Digg. You're a testament to the feats achievable by the greats from TechTV and the tech community alike.
- Four20, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4re-check my username. grammer and spelling are the last thing on my mind
- ewcost, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yes!!!!!! Go DIGG!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Alexa is not a good measure, because it only counts people using its crappy tool bar. That's why slashdot is so low compared to digg, because more diggers install the spyware bar to get digg up over slashdot.
- Eyeooga, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4@junkmail02 "i think digg peaked about a year ago. then the user base has gone downhill because all the idiots found about about it.
so now it's full of spammers (about 9/11) and trolls"
...and the troll known as junkmail02 has just proven their own point... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Seeing digg pass the 20 ranking on Alexa is nice and important information. "
explain the importance. - Georgy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2could i be because of the iphone announcement?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I agree, I don't know how that happened. I can go to work and ask 50 coworkers if they know about Digg, and I will be the only one.
If it was a top 20 sites, a lot of these stories would be getting a lot more than 1500 diggs. Come on people, think about it. - val8ntin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Alexa's ranking system is a bit retarded. I mean honestly, who the ***** uses http://www.go.com ?
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yahoo is an international ISP, that's who all those mysterious users are, besides the free email users.
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2
Yes but for how long? Anyone can have a digg site using http://pligg.com
So why don't they? It still requires hosting (AKA $$$) and a lot of work. Good luck getting people to switch over to your Digg clone. - dhulser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i was pretty excited when i dugg the story and saw that i was the 1337th digg...
woo for me! - Four20, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1http://www.geekenough.com
I found this site for the non-tech savvy users - cmv0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Who licks them anymore? I just swallow them whole, with the stick!
