BB is basically a peer review, and if you don't give a squat what your peers say, then it has done no good, and other means need to be found. How often do any of us call the BB before making a purchase. I don't think I ever have.
These people are not civilized, so civilized actions do not affect them!!!!
As long as the case is well presented, and by ONE of us, if we determine to do what we may, to help, then I see nothing wrong with it.
I am a biker(less now than before), and you KNOW how we handle such things.......
So, I think we have been quite civilized about it, considering what all could have happened.
I hope he canceled his credit card, filed a complaint, and got a new card. It is time consuming, but in the long run, these people will identified, and Their credit will go to squat...

Denial of service attacks, prank calls, and the ilk can expose those responsible, possibly even Digg.com (including possibly Mssrs. Rose and Albrecht) to potential litigation.
NY recognizes tortious interference with contracts as a cognizable cause of action. Stop this.
If you want to help, go to NYC.gov and lodge a complaint with NY City's Consumer Advocate. If you put the appropriate pressure there, the Consumer Advocate's office can then take action.

In an age where those transmitting the data that allows something to happen is possibly illegal, you may be putting Digg.com in some small risk, but beyond that... what if this was all a joke and this company is actually reputable. Maybe not, but doing denial of service attacks, calling the store and whatever else folks have been doing, is no different than a mob running down the street after some guy they heard touched some 8 year old girl in a very inappropriate way.... while it may seem the right thing to do and great (all-be-it sick) joy might be had from the chase and the eventual beating of the poor lost soul, it is wrong to do it and those that do find themselves in a court room down the hall from the poor lost soul.... and possibly in a law suit if they chased the wrong guy.
Mr. Hawk may have a civil case (hell, you can sue for anything here) so he should take that route... There is nothing we can do, but give him moral support, not shop at the store and advise others to not shop at the store. if this made the news, Digg users would end up looking like childish technocrats who don't know how to live in a civilized society, where dark thick rimmed glasses and can't get dates. Calling a company with a legit complaint is OK, but calling on behalf of someone else 's is wrong. And prank phone calls? That's just idiotic.
DoS Attacks? That is illegal, and worse than that, you're not just hurting Price Rite, you are hurting anyone who happens to be on the same web server as him. VERY WRONG!

Thomas Hawk is a photographer which photography is a passionate hobby of his. For weeks he has been waiting for a price drop on a camera that he wanted, and when it finally reached his price range he decided to buy it, after checking for the best price.
As it turns out the best price was found at PriceRitePhoto so he went out and made the purchase. After completing the order thing started to go south.
“I will make sure you will never be able to place an order on the internet again.” “I’m an attorney, I will sue you.” “I will call the CEO of your company and play him the tape of this phone call.” “I’m going to call your local police and have two officers come over and arrest you.” “You’d better get this through your thick skull.” “You have no idea who you are dealing with.”
These are all direct threats that I received today from an individual who identified himself as Steve Phillips, the manager of PriceRitePhoto in Brooklyn, New York when he called to inquire about his order with them. This abuse came after telling them that he planned to write an article about the unfortunate experience with this company regarding the camera order.
After Hawk wrote the article on his blog, he published it on Digg.com and the response from Digg users was tremendous.
Beside the usual advice (always check seller ratings etc’) dig users decided to take action and posted the store’s aliases, phone number and address. Users then started to flood PriceRitePhoto 800 number with phone calls, writing scripts using Skype to call and disconnect, making prank calls (http://danny.st/tmp/pricerite.mp3 , http://danny.st/tmp/pricerite2.mp3), launching DOS attacks against the site, posting bad reviews on web sites, posting links to Hawk’s blog on internet forums, flooding PriceRitePhoto with email messages, posted complaints to the better business bureau , sending fax messages and succeeded to bring down their live chat feature.
After this kind of attack maybe merchants will try harder to provide a better customer service, well at least one has definitely learned his lesson.

As we all can see spinning public opinion your way could be a very powerfull weapon on the internet, and we all know power corrupts. Its only a matter of time until someone uses it extortion or vandalism.

DOS and vigilantism is probably not very productive, what would be great is a website where consumers rate the service they have received from a vendor or a service provider. In that way, new potential customers can be made aware of the people they should, or should not, do business with.

He sent me a refurbished one and claimed it was new even though the box said it was refurbished and it will clearly used before. I called and complained and he said that he will put it on my credit report that I didn't pay and will mess up my credit if I keep complaining. I filed a complaint with the NY D.A's office and they refused to do anything about it even though I showed them evidence of over 100 people with the same type of problem. This was over a year ago and now real justice is being served!

Print reviews will reach many people who don't bother with web forums or those who may not understand that web seller's "star rating" is meaningless.
Consider contacting their web provider. Companines who run scams are often dropped by their providers, and can have their domain blacklisted on DNS servers.
Also contact web search directories alerting them to any search results that return a know scammer on the first page. Directories are moderated and they can be bumped down the list, or removed completely from web searches.
I have heard several people say they were asked to fax information. Anyone got the number. I have a full ream of black construction paper to fax them.
I would also look into who holds the business license. That is a matter of public record. Send a letter to NYC chamber of commerce. They have little power over such things officially, but they do have an incredible amount of influence. Likewise, reporting them to credit agencies will seriously hurt their business in the long run.
Most of all, post this link in any online community forums you belong to. Get the word out. E-mail your friends and family to warn them against buying from this vendor durring the holiday season. Generate some hype about this. Mabey other online sellers will begin to recognize how people react to poor business ethics. I don't doubt the credibility of the originating story. in fact I find it damned impossible for anyone too. a simple bit of research into the company finds a plethora of information that serves to only further credit the victim's story.
Now I should say: Do i agree with the "mob" tactics, no, not necessarily. However.. do I think that with how "well" the "system" works that some punishment is in order, probably. its not my place to say. what. If the business has outdated or old addresses they never get notices. The BBB is a great idea but very slow to do what little they can do.
