- Ikioi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+34People make suggestions to submitters, and instead of explaining calmly their reasoning, they start cursing and getting personal. Was it really so tempting to throw the "jackass" part in there?
It's a cycle I see every day, and don't put up with anymore. Anonymity doesn't excuse bad manners. A little civility goes a long way. Lack of it goes a whole lot further.
Zero tolerance. Buried and author blocked. - ZigZags, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27Can't wait for the SETI@home style Digg screensaver.
- Slourte, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20Enough kids.
- JiMiThInG, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13I look forward to the addition of a sports section at Digg. For those of you who do not just don't view that section, keep it hid. That's the beauty of digg. But for me I would much rather just be able to come here and find out all the info on topics I want then have to visit ESPN.com or something.
- usherzx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8you know what, you're absolutely right lkioi -
i dugg your comment and i apologize. - Area51mafia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8These both look pretty interesting. What I'm kinda uneasy about is that they're Flash based. If it's a Flash 8 (or even 9) application, then it leaves us GNU/Linux users in the dust until the Flash 9 port is finiahed (whenever that'll be).
But, still can't wait. I don't think I'd use it for anything more than to amuse me for a few minutes, though. - eddieo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6tick-tock, tick-tock...
- Glenn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Still waiting...
- YourTechSupport, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I'd be funny to see these get modded into some kind of game.
Digg Invaders? Diggopoly? DiggDugg? Digg Nukem Forever? - Character0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I'm with allarise. Shouldn't diggStack be out by now.
- KerbDaddy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I am a former sports "Jock" (nice term, by the way) who discovered Digg only recently and loves the site because it keeps me up-to-date with tech news and developments.
Perhaps some benefit could come from a sports section for you non-"Jocks" to see that there is, actually, quite a bit of sports "diversity" out there.
Besides, you fantasy-sports geeks will flood the sports section with recommendations on waiver-wire pickups and late-round steals. Don't deny it. - allarise, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Umm.. Where is it?
- sophiaperennis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I like the Digg Stack version. Maybe they can add, when a story gets buried, to show a space-invader type ship at the bottom to shoot the entire stack for that story to pieces. Similar for Digg Swarm, use the Asteroids model to blow the bubble to Kingdom-come.
- canewediggit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5As a sports fan, here's my "dumb commentary"
I for one am thrilled they will be adding a sports section. This will be a great way to get stories/blogs that may make the local papers/sites but don't hit Espn. And if you're not a sports person you may not realize that espn is fast becoming a pay site for any good content (sports guy notwithstanding). This will be even more fun for the fantasy ballers out there.
I'm one of those people that wrote Digg and suggested it. Bring on the sports! The more categories the better. I want to read about the NBA summer leagues in the same place where I can read about Wii developments and the Israel/Lebanon conflict, etc.
Next up, let's step up the financial/stock section! - gamerzworld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4http://technoteacher.com/tech/11_5_02/MarkDamonGames/Jeopardy1/finaljeo.wav
- masamunecyrus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Digg swarm would be even more cool if it could show each user browsing digg as a pixel (of course, the user would disappear if there was no activity for 5 minutes, or so...) and then whenever they click on a story, their pixel would walk over to that story, and whenever the story was dugg, the transparent story circle would ping.
...Of course, that'd probably rape the server. - jlgoolsbee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4maybe they're waiting for the planets to come into alignment?
- Kazanoe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Congrats, its also the birthday of another 0.0027397260273972602739726% of the world.
Approximately. - FZero, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Sports schmorts, where's the Books category?
- scoot87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4(Jeopardy music)
- intilli4, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I want the Swarm with the flowers!!! That just looks like it could be great fun to watch.
- nacs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Um. Somebodys slacking....
- iamtheinternet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That would pretty much be HotDigg on crack...
http://www.vipedio.com/roman/hotdigg/index.php - lowgoz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3*puts music on repeat*
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Honestly, why does every damn website have to try to do *everything*? "
Two words: Ad.... revenue.
Bigger user base = more ad views.
Note how many more advertisements digg v3 has. A couple of years from now these guys will be rolling in piles of cash. It's business. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5"There is also news around the addition of Sports as a new Digg category."
Ahh...finally a topic I can uncheck without feeling I may miss something important.
Though I get a little worried digg is growing into areas that will not be good for digg in the long run. - Zukunft, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3My birthday is on the 23rd, so I'll just consider this a late birthday gift.
- Bentopia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Which would be nice because then you can turn sports off. Whalla, no more soccer.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4A sports Digg page would be awesome, now I can get all my news from one place
- NiX0n, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Interesting... Digg Sports...
Isn't that sort of an oxymoron? Do Jocks even know how to use the Intarweb?
*pushes up imaginary glasses and prepares his anti-eWedgie mechanisms* - NJShadow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Man, yet another breakthrough in the Digg universe. Fantastic. And concerning sports, it is possible to like both tech and sports at the same time!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Whose demanding the sports category? diggers or submitters? Cuz there really ain't that much sports diversity out there to have daily submitted stories on that you cant just find more directly at a tradition news sources. Its going to be mostly a seasonal category where it get tons of duplicate submission of who won the baseball, football or soccer game. LAMO
Oh I know. I bet a bunch of sports bloggers lobbied for this category so they can submit their dumb commentary. - BufordT, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Is anyone else reminded of Missle Command when they see pictures of Digg Stack?
- mecole21, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Now I won't ever have to go to any other websites. Digg will have everything I need.
- alienSkull, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The odds are exactly 1 out of 365.25
So 0.36525% of the population, approx.
Not 0.0027397260273972602739726% as you pulled out of your brown.
Which is actually off by a fair amount. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Digg sports awesome!
- saolsasl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3in the meantime I use http://www.diggview.com
- Kailash.Nadh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Good for eyes, but practically useless unless you've got plenty of time to waste watching all those fancy charts and bubbles and spaceships.
- jogojr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'm looking forward to the sports section merely to get random sports news out of the other sections like Television.
- Atomic1fire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1instead of arguements on which what is worse we would have which football player is better and jock/nerd fights too wait is that a good idea *sarcasm*
- DSmooth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Those look awesome!
- JimXugle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's also Amelia Eirharts Birthday, Jennifer Lopez's birthday, The day when AMD is suppoed to be lowering prices, and My Birthday.
What are the odds? :-P - YourTechSupport, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It's best to think of them as family.
- masamunecyrus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Digg seems to be quickly becoming its own version of 2channel.
Speaking of which, I'd love to see a Digg version of 2channel, which every post could be modded like it is currently! Everything would be streamlined with AJAX so there's be no need for refreshing, and in the process, a superior forum software would be created. That'd be great! - frednofr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Digg is still fun
- Inbal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Celebrity gossip" wasn't enough for you?! I unchecked the gaming container because I just hate the feeling of spending an entire afternoon on something I can't remember afterwards, but the celebrity gossip isn't even a matter of interest or technology/non-technology - it's just insulting to the Digg IQ.
I came to terms with the non-technology topics, including movies and music, but let's call it "cinema", not "movies", and "art", not "entertainment" container, and add some serious artistic fields like literature and architecture. Since when is "gossip" an interest?!
I'm OK with the sports container, as long as it's done maturely, with respect to people who are actually passionate about the subject. - shanal, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6l2notclicksports-tab
seriously, whats the big deal, why do you care that another tab appears magically on your screen? Not everyone shares your profound hate for physical activity (outside :-O) - Hullah, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Wasn't both of these showcased in diggnation episode 51? I'd think the video would be better to watch than snapshots.
- neave, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I'm surprised there aren't lots of Flash-hating comments on here. Ususally if something made in Flash gets onto digg, digg users cast it as the spawn of the devil.
- ImOscar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0AlienSkull-
If you're gonna make fun of someone for their math you should make sure to do yours correctly. -
