Can't reach Twitter from work, so it's either go without, check friends' activity (which is way too tedious), or set my Twitter follows to notify me than manually type in link addresses from the phone. WTF? Been dreading this change since I read about Digg doing away with a useful feature.

It'd still be useful for messaging people and sending interesting stuff to a few choice people, but would make spamming one article to hundreds of people prohibitively hard. Some would migrate to Twitter, etc., but they're doing that now, anyway. At least this way the shout system wouldn't be destroyed.

Profile > Settings > viewing preferences on right. - ninjadanger, on 05/27/2009, -2/+14right. on. the shout feature was my only real beef with digg, besides all the damnable lolcats. it seemed pretty counter intuitive to have users send mass shouts to their "friends" for them to digg their submissions. i only received a few unsolicited shouts but that was all it took for me to turn them off. i'm sure this will turn out to be a double-edged sword but at least now the front page has the potential to reflect the general community's actual diggs instead of being homogenized by power users. woot.
