- t2t2, on 10/03/2008, -14/+105[Comment about Mr. Babyman]
(of course, http://www.geekycomic.net/2008/09/diggs-secret.htm ... ) - inactive, on 10/03/2008, -1/+73Why do people runs scripts? What does it gain them other than an inflated sense of self importance?
Wait...nevermind. - wukillabee, on 10/03/2008, -14/+85say bye bye to ur front page stories mrbabyspam
- huxleyan, on 10/03/2008, -3/+57Here's a simple concept that I think digg has forgotten.
A story should be dugg based on the merit of the story, not because you got a shout from your friend.
It makes digg into a homecoming queen contest. (Not that any of us could actually get a date to homecoming). - anachronaut, on 10/03/2008, -6/+57No ***** he needs to be banned. Only 25 days ago, MrBabyMan was averaging an already astounding 107 diggs per day (106,262 total diggs at the time).
Since that day -- only 25 days ago -- MrBabyMan has made 5316 additional diggs. That's over 212 per day, every day, assuming he didn't skip any days (do scripts take vacations?). That is ***** ridiculously obvious abuse.
It's pretty clear, though, that Digg's not going to ban that cheating piece of *****, for whatever reason(s). I wish they'd come out and make a statement as to why, exactly, they're refusing to ban an obvious cheater. All you can do is wonder... - inactive, on 10/03/2008, -8/+58I might abuse my girlfriend but I would NEVER abuse digg.com
- mattrmcg, on 10/03/2008, -28/+77Does this also work for Huffington Post, Daily Kos and Consumerist submit scripts?
- sbwms, on 10/03/2008, -1/+36Our blog post does not relate to the API, but rather to enforcement of the TOU of digg.com.
Sorry if you got the wrong impression. The "scripts" referred to are scripts that manipulate the interactive features of digg.com, not API scripts.
Certainly we also must monitor API activity, and we take action when abuse occurs. But this story and blog post are not referring to that. In fact, we've seen very little abuse of the API, and such abuse almost always turns out to be a programming mistake, quickly corrected. - Cenobite, on 10/03/2008, -3/+36***** Zaibatsu.
- mark076h, on 10/03/2008, -34/+67why don't they ban the Huffington Post, AKA The Huffington Spam and all the pro-obama anti-McCain retards that have taken over digg with political spam, they are the trash that needs to go.
- poet, on 10/03/2008, -4/+36Everyone who got banned deserved it. Stop crying, especially when you're not affected by it other than you no longer have to see spam on the frontpage anymore.
- cinnix, on 10/03/2008, -1/+32Oh please, are you really trying to say that Digg are throwing a tantrum because the scripts are too much workload on the API? I see no other reason of why you would mention it.
While I can't prove certain users using scripts to game the system, I have a pretty good idea of a few who have - and this has ruined the service provided to me. The scripts may use the API, but not for any constructive resuIt. The need of using a scripts to satisfy your ego, enlarge your e-penis or to line your wallet is quite frankly, pathetic. It's the rest of us users that are effected.
I am glad that Digg have gone down this route, they have recognised that users like myself are annoyed with the BS that has been going on. I rarely use Digg as much as I used to, I was once a heavy user of this service. It was the BS with these "power users" that was one of the reasons I have wandered away from Digg, as it is with hundreds and thousands of other users.
I'm sorry to burst your bubble, Digg made this decision for the rest of us normal users, not because a few "Digg Celebreties" are bogging down the servers with the API. - yurimxpxman, on 10/03/2008, -7/+38***** you. This is teh intertubez. We do as we please.
- inactive, on 10/03/2008, -7/+36I accidentally all the diggs
- inactive, on 10/03/2008, -2/+30Here's a tip to get to the front page: only submit a story that
1-Bashes John McCain or Sarah Palin, *****, anyone who doesn't want to suck Obama's nuts
2-Bash Windows
3-anything XKCD
4-anything Yhatzee
5-iPhone
6-Ubuntu releases update from 1.03.463.543 to 1.03.463.544
7-Invent a new ***** insane conspiracy theory ie Cynthia McKinney
8-Have a bad customer service experience at Best Buy/Gamestop/Circuit City - code, on 10/03/2008, -0/+28where on that page this is linking to are they talking about their API? scripts, not api. but i think you know that. nice try on spinning that!
- wakkow, on 10/03/2008, -4/+32"We also rolled out some changes that warned users when unnatural Digging activity was detected."
Sounds like they have that in place already. - taketheleap, on 10/03/2008, -7/+33< script>

Dammit, that last line never frickin works. - PeanutCheeseBar, on 10/03/2008, -9/+35Don't forget Think Progress.
- chaoswings, on 10/03/2008, -3/+27Well let me make this simple
Digg has a large userbase.
Frontpage = massive traffic to a site which one way or another increases revenue for said site (indirectly or directly)
So frontpage = money
Therefore if you can get to the frontpage you can make money. If your a digg power user...(you fill in the rest) - xxgigavirusxx, on 10/03/2008, -6/+29So.. MrBabyMan I guess is an exception to the rule.. Thats why he is still here
It all makes sense now! - TheGuyThatPoops, on 10/03/2008, -2/+25They do have a warning system. It's this crazy new idea called Terms of Use.
- javaroast, on 10/03/2008, -2/+24Every last one of them knew they were outside the rules and outside the spirit of digg. I say good riddance to the digg gamers.
- inactive, on 10/03/2008, -3/+25If you dont see that those sites get a whole lot more stories on the homepage than they should, you are either a ***** retard or one of the jackoff ***** making money off of them.
- Father, on 10/03/2008, -5/+26I've never submitted a story before, but maybe now I can give it a try.
- lucky253, on 10/03/2008, -5/+24It's funny because it's (almost) true.
- IgorUnchained, on 10/03/2008, -7/+26Cmon...how am I going to find out about the iphone if the "bought and paid for" Diggers cant post their product placement articles and Digg them up at lightning speed?
I for one have really missed all of the Ubuntu/Linux/Gimp/iphone/etc "advertisements" that they brought to the table.
Next up......the "Bury Brigade" needs to be addressed. If you do nothing but Digg down 100 stories a day without adding anything else to the conversation, you are probably a paid operative or a total *****. - twrife, on 10/04/2008, -3/+21Here's what I'm wondering.
jjmac has a lot of uneven numbers (Diggs/buries). Who would digg/bury one of his comments but not the others?
Darkaged, on the other hand, has even numbers all the way down (at the time of writing). - nepidae, on 10/03/2008, -1/+18The whole diggs?
- inactive, on 10/03/2008, -2/+19And MakiMaki.
- foxtrot3, on 10/03/2008, -1/+18Thanks Digg. Good work.
- inactive, on 10/03/2008, -10/+26Ban badwithcomputer
- Cenobite, on 10/03/2008, -0/+16Buried for bringing up painful memories.
- javaroast, on 10/03/2008, -3/+19Not exactly. He claims to have not used the scripts, but if you look at those banned nearly all of them had mrbabyman friended. Seems to me they killed the body of the snake but let the head go free. There are areas of the TOU that mrbabyman has clearly broken, mainly that he uses an organized method to get diggs.
- Rivetgeek, on 10/03/2008, -4/+20and nothing but the diggs, so help me god.
- inactive, on 10/03/2008, -4/+19Hell no, that site is pure garbage. It should be banned from digg, since it has nothing to do with news anyway.
- inactive, on 10/03/2008, -3/+17I hate that ***** as well. I say we organize and bury anything from them at all. We friend up, shout it, and ***** bury it. HuffPo tries to game Digg, so let's game those ***** commies.
- chevyorange, on 10/03/2008, -0/+14MookiBlaylock is my favorite spellor.
- anaesthetica, on 10/04/2008, -0/+14I submit stories, but often I feel like it would be better if someone else submitted it, because if I submit it I pretty much guarantee that it won't get to the front page.
Perversely, I start to think that submitting something myself will actually prevent people on Digg from ending up seeing it. If someone else with a network of mutual-digging-friends and shouts would hopefully find the same article and submit it themselves, then it would see the front page. If I submit it, I doom it to getting somewhere between 1-12 diggs. - unitedkronos, on 10/03/2008, -2/+15But probobly under your IP.
- WNW3, on 10/03/2008, -1/+14The more you know...
- Chakat, on 10/03/2008, -1/+14They're giving away Zaibatsu now? Damn, I payed $50 for mine.
- shutaro, on 10/03/2008, -0/+13That's what she said.
- Cenobite, on 10/03/2008, -1/+13I hate hate speech.
- javaroast, on 10/03/2008, -1/+13Zaibatsu is free... from digg
