- Daisuke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7uhm.. DennisK2020 beat you by 30 minutes... to your exact comment.. o_O what's up with that?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Digg has huge potential -- the only downside is that more and more often groups of people linked by mailing lists are "fixing" the articles that get put on it to sell a product or push an agenda.
The L-Diggers mailing list is a perfect example, where even the people on the mailing list weren't reading the articles. Sometimes they were posting five articles at a time on the mailing list which people would blindly digg up.
They even took over an entire thread to justify this spamming, here:

Next, if it hasn't happened already, the Scientologists will do the same thing and before we know it Digg will only consist of pocket fishman ads and advertorials pushing agendas. - Whitey04, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Have you read the "Top 20 Digg users" articles?
Just wondering. - mk32066, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is sounding like George Orwell's 1984, with the newthink and oldthink. Could there be a link?
- tybris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2of course what it fails to mention is that it produces even more one sided and shallow news than old fashioned news sources...
- transeunte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Oldthink: Turning on car radios to hear the music or radio shows we enjoy.
Newthink: Getting satellite radio or plugging in portable MP3 players to our car stereos so we can listen to hundreds of commercial-free stations on satellite or thousands of podcasts downloaded from the Internet."
yeah like
podcasts FTW - MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -0/+2Yeah, that's the thing about digg. Users submit the stories that professionals wrote. Somtimes it's a blog entry, but I'd love to see more first hand reporting by digg users like the London bombings that were reported on digg first hand before on mainstream media.
- david76, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2On the whole, Digg is great. It exposes me to articles I would never have otherwise found. But at the same time, Digg just replaces editor tyranny with zealot tyranny whereby a few with extreme viewpoints can bury an article or mark an article as innaccurate even though their perspective may not represent a majority viewpoint.
Think of it like a speakers circle. Sure, you may be interesting enough to draw a crowd, but a few people who disagree and who can yell louder, may prevent you from continuing to be heard. - subversive1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Fascism you can vote for...isnt that sweet
Too obscure? - sbutcher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I used to be a Slashdot reader, even the comments would be quite educational.
However it has become rather dull, and the incessant "in-jokery" got on my nerves. Most of it was new kids trying to fit in, or trying to be funny with a sad old joke.
Anyway, i switched to reading digg, but recently I am clicking on less stories (mostly too sensational AMAZING!! BEST ever , or just links to youtube videos. If i wanted that all day then I would surf youtube), and most of the comments are "me too", and let's face it, there's too many kids.
Plus, the RSS feed doesn't filter out the rubbish. Why would I read a political article on digg? I recently saw one where "this British guy George Galloway" was being praised for being rude to a reporter - everyone thought he was great. If only they actually knew he supports Fidel Castro and had tea with Saddam ("I salute your courage, your strength, your indefatigability.") - chandrasonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Permanent link:

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Who the hell reads articles at PBS.com?
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1The Mises.org and Lew Nutcase domains could both be banned, rather than trying to track down all the individuals involved (they'd probably get new accounts anyway). Then they won't be able to post their articles.

Please inform the audience why Mises.org and Lewrockwell.com are nutcases. What fallacious arguments, economic theories do they promote that are inconsistent with reality?
Instead of just calling names and throwing obscenities, it would be far more effective to argue your point don't you think? :) - apzdsx, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1PBS sent out emails telling people to digg this.
