- wildfire, on 10/11/2007, -5/+102*****, you got an advertisement past my filters! You insidious bastard!
- ilkeryoldas, on 10/11/2007, -14/+86Not to mention the new comment system sucks and we still don't have a photo category
- Burento, on 10/11/2007, -3/+65Seriously folks.. When have you ever seen a bury lower the digg count..
- Skanadian, on 10/11/2007, -6/+55Dugg for Snorg girl.
- moojj, on 10/11/2007, -2/+44I would say it's a bug..... 21 total diggs - 14 friends = 7 diggs (not 10 diggs)
- Dgen_X, on 10/11/2007, -1/+42hmm...if they're all like that I may disable adblock
- DisposableRob, on 10/11/2007, -0/+29Buries have never removed Diggs. That's reddit.
- brainovermind, on 10/11/2007, -4/+32I've noticed tons of problems today with Digg and with a few other sites as well. I listed an article talking about problems with Yahoo and Hotmail earlier. Someone else said that CNN was down for a while earlier as well. I read that Yahoo and Hotmail were dealing with tons of trojans today, but I'm not sure if anything/everything is connected. I haven't seen this much trouble for quite some time though.
- MedHead, on 10/11/2007, -1/+26I'm not entirely certain how other sites having problems relates in any way to a supposed Digg.com vote count issue.
- reflex768, on 10/11/2007, -4/+28Profiles are coming and going too. I've seen blank content or 404 on several, including my own.
- rabidg00se, on 10/11/2007, -3/+25Oh Snorg tees girl, how I've missed you.
- insomniacal, on 10/11/2007, -7/+28A bug? Yeah, right. Only a newb would think Digg is on the up-and-up. There's all kinds of mind-muck going on with the stats.
Want to see something really bizarre? Sit on the front page, hit refresh several times, and watch stories appear and disappear without reason.
The multitude of these "weird" observations adds up to one conclusion: Digg is not the pluracracy it pretends to be -- it mucks with _everything_ in order to deliver an "improved" user experience.
In the end, Digg isn't about empowering users -- it's about raking in the big bucks. Only sheep keep drinking the Kevin Rose koolaid.
Why do I stay?
Because every once in a while, a digger turns up a really cool article that somehow makes it through the statistical mind-muck, and I learn something. - AladinSane, on 10/11/2007, -27/+48Yeah, because you obviously have 600+ "friends". The fact that people like you are abusing the system is the very reason WHY it needs to be changed.
- cambrown99, on 10/11/2007, -4/+24The more they tweak it, the more broken Digg is becoming.
I've pretty much given up on submitting stories because it's near impossible to front-page anymore, and the new comment system causes a spinning beach ball delay on every digg article I open now, not just the ones with high comment counts.
I loved the idea of digg from the start, but since early this year it's been more frustrating than it's worth. - AladinSane, on 10/11/2007, -5/+24The simple fact is that it's douchebags using their "friends" connections to artificially inflate the Dig rate on lame-assed submissions. It can't have gone unnoticed by anyone that Digg has stopped being a cool source for news, and has started to become a battleground for complete and total idiots. There's only two choices: allow Digg to continue spiraling into the sewer, or remove the ability for people to form silly little Cyber Gangs. Hopefully, this means they decided to go with the latter.
- simplenation, on 10/11/2007, -4/+23you should empty out your friends list anyways
so every single digg button does not have a green stripe with a white star or every comment is green. that sucks - thatsmyaibo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20I agree. I'm tired of people like msaleem who could take a ***** on their computer and it will go to the front page just so he can blog about his 15 minutes of digg popularity.
- extant59, on 10/11/2007, -1/+19if that was true.. then everything kevin rose submitted or voted on would NEVER make it to the front page.
- dorshorst, on 10/11/2007, -21/+39Is it at all possible that other people are burying the story?
21 diggs -11 burys = 10 diggs. - zapa, on 10/11/2007, -1/+19I never get diggs to my news/videos because I only have 1 friend added.
- Burento, on 10/11/2007, -3/+19Yeah.. This submission was an error page for a while after it went up..
Thats what they get for banning WeirdAsiaNews.com - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+19I'm still pissed at having separate pages for comments. I use to love scrolling through comments just to read ***** the trolls or extreme right/left people would say and laugh my ass off.
Now its just comment 1-25 and im done. :( pretty weak. - Burento, on 10/11/2007, -2/+16ANNOUNCEMENT:
BURIES DO NOT LOWER THE DIGG COUNT! - reflex768, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14Good info. To add to the list, Flickr was 408 for at least ten minutes in the morning.
- reflex768, on 10/11/2007, -22/+35Yep, hope that's temporary. Emptying out my 600+ friends list so my diggs count, would not be fun.
Maybe a symptom of general problems however. Comment sections have been touch and go all day too. Some error out, some display. It's random and episodic as far as I can tell. This very comment thread was dead on six tries until just now. - zweben, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12Reddit is taking away our Diggs? Those bastards!
- starquake, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11I can think of more annoying ads though...
- brainovermind, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11Yeah, I heard that Flickr was having a lot of problems as well. They are with Yahoo, so that makes sense. Supposedly, Yahoo in China was down for 12 hours and the US East Coast has had a lot of problems as well. Thanks for the extra info.
- devguy007, on 10/11/2007, -4/+14That is a fact that there are very very useless links and stories comes up to the frontpage, and it's all about firends who effect this.
Unf. Digg is not a fair community. it's more like a market place. - ccheath, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9You have a reading comprehension problem...
buries do not remove diggs
buries do have an effect
buries do not remove diggs
buries do have an effect - CourtesyFlush, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I keep getting script failure errors in FireFox. Yes, it's probably one of my plugins......but they work fine everywhere else.
- rrossen, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7I thought my safari was just bugging me on the beach ball thing but apparently it IS caused by the new system then. One VERY good reason to do something about it, it's annoying as hell when you wanna do a quick digg-check in your coffee break
- insomniacal, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8Do you also go through the extra pages? Expanding the full tree doesn't automatically show you comments 51-100, 101-150, etc.
- slipgrid, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Some YouTube videos wouldn't respond for about five minutes.
- dustysquareback, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9OMG! It's the Transformers!
- endlessoul, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Dugg for using the word "insidious," making it the word of the day.
Insidious. - TeMerc, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I just wish digg would get more proactive in removing the junkspammers who link to their blog-site with every single descent(read:old) bit of news they can find. Digg is becoming more of an traffic generating site for spammers than actual good newsinfo source.
I'm certain I could find a half dozen of these scumbags right now who posted a bunch of links in a matter of minutes within each other. - jbus, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Aside from this, I've noticed that some of my comments are disappearing. It'll say that I've commented on a story, but my comment is nowhere to be found. Even after I expand the full comment tree and go through all the comments.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8I'd hit it.
- philovivero, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Yes, yes. Digg went through a massive spam attack. You probably didn't notice it, but our servers did. We had a couple servers that were reporting erroneous values for stories for a couple of hours yesterday (Friday July 6th). This is not indicative of a new feature or change in our algorithm, it was just bogus numbers.
- KiTchMe, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Do you know the topic of this thread...good comment though
- brainovermind, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4No problem. I'm used to being dug down. I'm always shocked to ever be above 0. Thanks though.
- kindrobot, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6LOL at all the people who call other sites whoring self-promotion and popularity contests. Eat some.
In other words, great idea. Now re-fix the comments. - SeaMowse, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6I noticed that yesterday. I had something that was in 'Hot Topics' - with less than 75 Diggs. But on my 'Home Page', it supposedly had over 350 votes, and had FP'd just an hour before. I don't remember how long it stayed that way, but eventually, the problem was resolved. I haven't noticed it since. Thanks for pointing this out - I'll be on the lookout.
- Burento, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4FYI.. Buries dont lower the digg count...
- reflex768, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5No guys, it's because the home page is filled with stuff I'm typically not interested in. Thus I assembled my own social network to feed stories I like on my friends page. Works splendidly if you're uninterested in operating system wars, candidates for president who won't win the nomination of their party, or pictures of Steve Jobs doing his laundry. :-)
- bIuebonics, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6isn't that what this whole "social networking" fad is about? superficial friends who all put on a big act? it's certainly what myspace and facebook run on.
- bonlebon, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Excuse me, I was paying attention to the chick on the right, what is this post about?
- tiga31328, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Yeh, wouldn't this be a dream! Digg is becoming a crap pit for useless and old information. Drives me nuts to see some video that was posted online 6 years ago and it has thousands of Digg's, what a joke. Someone posts a decent Digg and it's get's nothing. It's all in who you know, and since other tards opinions are not mine, I am finding less and less on the front pages of Digg to waste time looking at.
- xTRUMANx, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Good attempt at reverse psychology Burento. You failed.
