- RockMyMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+101Why not link directly to the actual chart?
http://www.alexa.com/site/ds/top_sites?cc=US&ts_mode=country&lang=none - hehe, on 10/12/2007, -10/+37Slashdot is 74. Aww...how sad:(
- vtlunchbox, on 10/12/2007, -6/+27Yeah exactly this guy is just trying to get people to go to his blog. Dugg down for annoying.
- anitab83, on 10/12/2007, -7/+26Alexa isn't meaningless, it just isn't always 100% accurate. If you're looking for directionally accurate results, Alexa provides them. Particularly for any sites in the top 1000 or so. When you get down to sites that are below ~50,000, alexa ratings are no longer statistically significant. Does Alexa ratings mean that Digg is really in the top 20 of all visited sites? Probably not, it's probably more like #50 or so since a higher proportion of Alexa toolbar users (particularly SEO folks) than the general public likely visit Digg.
Unfortunately, there's not really any better way to come up with traffic #'s, are there? - CaptainKrontos, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17Bought out by a ruthless corporation for 1.45 quadrillion dollars?
- wbreim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12where do you think your neighbor got that rare special nascar themed xmas tree?
- thomble, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11FTA: "This is quite a feet considering that digg has only been operational for a little over 2 years now."
Feet? Are you retarded? - anitab83, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I don't think moderators are doing this ... it's the actual users who bury stories as "lame", "spam", "inaccurate", etc. When a story gets enough people "burying" it, the digg system automatically removes the story from the front page and/or upcoming area.
- wiredclimber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Do people still use Yahoo?
Somehow I don't think alexa is accurate
Now for something totally different...
***** you myspace - anasazi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8all this does is prove that more people on digg run spyware than people on slashdot
run a spyware cleaner and uninstall alexa - FunkyWitDaSysTm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6don't joke. the 'Jeff Gordon's Racing Christmas Tree Supreme' is no laughing matter.
- worthawholebean, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6For people who are confused about seeing different rankings: You are looking at world rankings. TFA is looking at US rankings.
- aftk2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Yeah, because the average person makes sure to install the Alexa toolbar before stopping by Walmart.com.
- wbreim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7never sell? lol, are you waiting for santa today also? Come on: The business of business is business.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7http://www.alexa.com/data/details/main?q=&url=digg.com shows it at #78 for me...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+13There was a story on the front page of Digg awhile back that showed Alexa rankings are useless and inaccurate. But go ahead and jizz on Kevin Rose all you want.
- MuTeD, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Hmm who installs the Alexa Browser Addon here? Surprised its 19. If we all used the addon it would be higher :P.
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Alexa ratings are innacurate.
They rely on people in IE who install the Alexa bar.
Digg users DONT normally use IE, and are smart enough not to install the Alexa bar.
Digg is way higher than 19, but other sites are higher than their normal ratings, so Alexa ratings dont mean anything.
Also, they contradict themselves
Google should be higher too since Google's international sites are Google.com, Google.uk, Google.co.in
Yahoo has like www.yahoo.com, www..yahoo.com - ICSU, on 10/12/2007, -0/+42-3 billions? lay off the rum punch already
- joe90210, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Alexa rankings don't mean *****.
- Murphy71984, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Merry Christmas :)

hahahah - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3What surprises me most is that live.com is number nine...
- alloneword, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5@hehe
Which is where Digg should be. We all know slashdot gets an awful lot of traffic, but the fact that they are way down on 74 shows that the vast majority of people who use slashdot are using firefox or mozilla.
The fact that enough people are using Digg with IE to get it to 19 makes me sad that there are that many people still using IE.
Digg really should add something the the panel at the very bottom of the page with a link to firefox saying something like:
"Best viewed in a browser that supports standards, try Opera or Firefox."
(For those that don't know, Alexa ratings come from Internet Explorer users, using a plugin, not a good cross section of users) - econoar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3read the description
- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Alexa is a piece of *****
- invader, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2on the global list, digg is #76 (i noticed they were #78 about a week ago)
they were beat out by 18-or-so google-owned sites (mostly localized google sites, plus blogger, orkut, and youtube) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2are you being "polite"? if you don't agree say so, don't just hit bury.
i didn't know digg is censored when talking about other sites!
relax! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5who goes to walmart dot com ???
- bunni, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Inaccurate... these are only US rankings.
- scottymoon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2digg + slashdot visualized:
http://www.alexaholic.com/digg.com+slashdot.org - wbreim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3oh man kevin is soon to become the 600 million dollar man.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2how the hell is craigslist beating digg? that just doesn't make a damn bit of sense!
- giraph, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This only applies to Alexa ranking for U.S. Globally Digg is currently at 76
http://www.alexa.com/site/ds/top_sites?ts_mode=global&lang=none - rossnyc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Fox Sports but no espn.com? Hmmmm
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1reminds why windows is top. even if i installed linux alongside windows, i still count as "windows user" on several statistics because the rig came with it.
- xxdesmus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Alexa is absolutely useless.
It's like making a prediction based on a pile of my dog's ***** (which I think is still more accurate than Alexa). - amohongos, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@anitab83
I've worked in market research for a long time and can tell you that ratings are meaningless without statistically representative sample. Alexa's ratings don't don't measure the habits of anyone who's the slightest bit tech-savvy, AOL users, and most people in non-English speaking countries -- in other words, 99.9% of the internet population.
Imagine a political poll that surveyed one small town, and then claimed it represented the opinions of the general population in America. No good pollster would ever do something like that. Unfortunately, Alexa isn't a good pollster and their ratings are just as worthless. - silentdud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh yeah for the record try linking a legitimate source instead of a blog. Blogs are among the most illegitimate sources floating around the internet.
- narduk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There is an extension for Firefox that allows you to be calculated in the Alexa rankings.
http://www.quirk.biz/searchstatus/ - kyleh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1haha up yours, Weather!!!
- whalesalad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yep. ALEXA IS MEANINGLESS FOLKS.
- aftk2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Rants and raves. That ***** is addictive.
- Avalontor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Add up microsofts sites and you will see a different picture with live, msn, microsoft etc
- jcs_goog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Good for Digg. And yes there are issues with Alexa, but for the top sites it's pretty decent. Of course, Digg users aren't the kind that would really use an Alexa Toolbar. Here's a site that uses Alexa to rank Disney sites. It can be a bit inaccurate since most Disney sites get less than 50 visitors a day.
http://www.thedisneyportal.com/tdp/portal.asp - bloodborne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Congrats digg on this great "feet".
- fatadamblog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hmm very interesting.
On Australians Alexa rankings digg is marked 22 in the top rankings.
http://www.alexa.com/site/ds/top_sites?cc=AU&ts_mode=country&lang=none
Also Yahoo is number one in the US in rankings and here in Australia its google instead. - benchaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yahoo.... the only reason yahoo is the top because they set your homepage to yahoo, and many people dont care about their homepage.
