So, if the Digg community tends to bury ALL ads, the ones that get buried the least will still be cheap. No business would set up an ad system where the price of ALL ads could rise outside their control to a price nobody would pay.

The only way an Adblock-type extension would block them is if it were specifically written for Digg Ads and looked for the 'sponsored' bar. Adblock works by blocking images from known ad servers, which would have no effect on this type of ad.

- themadhatter444, on 06/03/2009, -15/+37Before the inevitable tirade of "Digg FAIL" folk come and trash this topic, I think this is a solid way to implement an ad structure that's both innovate and conducive for the consumer. Advertising on the web is a necessity to keep sites like this one alive. This is a good opportunity to tailor what gets seen and what gets the axe while benefiting all parties involved.
At the end of the day, AdBlocker will do all the work for you and this seems like a pretty easy system to game. Most ads will probably get buried anyway. Much like this comment. - 2Bnor2B, on 06/04/2009, -0/+20Wasn't there a version of Adblock that did not display the ads but still downloaded the banners. It allowed whitelisting the site but still blocked the actual ad display. This way the content provider still got his money.
Google has the best idea, simple text based ads based on search entries.
