- Deeh, on 01/02/2009, -9/+1712008 was the year that the democratic nature of the site was completely overthrown by power users.
Also, it was the year that the site became completely overwhelmed by morons from Youtube and 4chan.
To be fair, these were already problems before, but they became much worse. - hafniOum, on 01/02/2009, -8/+96Digg isn't perfect but still one of the best site out there! Good luck for 2009!!
- ycohain, on 01/02/2009, -6/+85small tweaks are nice, but there is a severe need for big time changes that we've all been waiting for.
- Totz83, on 01/02/2009, -7/+64I want to comment on the recent revolt against power-users & dupes, but everything has already being said to death. Let's just hope that the concerns raised by users will actually be dealt with.
Good luck in 2009 Digg - ElBeh, on 01/02/2009, -5/+54All we need now is better dupe detection.
- Macskeeball, on 01/03/2009, -0/+38All we need now is better dupe detection.
- hadiz, on 01/02/2009, -11/+42Remember that time that a small percentage of digg users essentially ran the site? That was awesome. Oh wait, that's happened every year.
- inactive, on 01/03/2009, -3/+33No it went:
"Barack Obama looks cool"
"Go Ron Paul!"
"Hillary is evil, Go Obama!"
"Go Ron Paul"
"Go Obama"
"Obama is a government insider traitor, Ron Paul!"
"Go Obama"
"Palin..."
"Yay Obama"
"Obama is a traitor still. Go Ron Paul"
"Stfu, He lost. Yay Obama" - jacekpoplawski, on 01/03/2009, -4/+29Old Digg: Linux, technology, science, etc...
2008 Digg: Ron Paul, Obama, Clinton, Obama, Palin, Obama, Paris Hilton, Obama. - THETEH, on 01/02/2009, -5/+27It's been a good year. Let's hope next year will see a drastic decrease in the "power" of power users!
- houltmac, on 01/02/2009, -9/+28Great little round up; it looks like a busy year when you put it all together like that. Best of luck for 2009 guys!
- inactive, on 01/03/2009, -5/+21DOWN WITH BABYMAN
- elliotys, on 01/03/2009, -10/+24This should sum it up.
"Go Ron Paul!"
"Hillary Clinton is the devil!"
"Alright everybody behind Barack now!" - thelastcivilian, on 01/02/2009, -7/+21Buried for linking to a post by a power user. :P
- mynameisteejay, on 01/03/2009, -4/+18I notice he didn't note the growing disdain for how he runs his website...
- jc7012, on 01/03/2009, -0/+13All we need is a better system for the detection of duplicate stories.
- PullingTeeth, on 01/02/2009, -2/+11I'm finding Google Reader to be a much better news source, as long as I pick the right feeds. It's like Digg but without all the LOLcats and such - only if I want to comment on something do I come here. I wish this was still a tech-oriented site.
- IIECONII, on 01/03/2009, -0/+8All of this true, but I think Digg realized there was a gap. On slow news days you need funny. Funny fills the gap.
More funny was put on Digg, maybe too much. People have a problem with sometimes-recycled funny material if it comes from the same source. Maybe the source is slightly funny and you have a problem with finding something funny if a WHOLE GROUP of people thinks it's funny. You like to be the "outcast" in the situations and enjoy subversiveness and the dark cold realization that we're here alone, will die alone, there is no God, and everyone should wear black. You're not emo, you're just down; depressed about the cold-nature of the world. Or maybe you just hate repetitive blogspam. Whatever the case, people join groups everywhere and in everything they participate in. Whether either you or they like it or not.
Maybe that's why the meme is funny to me. A once-nerd-elitist concept as the "internet" has grown into something so popular, that when subcultures form in them and people join them (This xxx interests me because yyy, yo dawg I saw), it shows the reach that the former "nerd-only" culture has on today's popular culture. Plus most of them are funny.
T.I. has a ***** song that samples the same song from the NUMA NUMA guy for christ's sake.
Take a look at my profile, I'm a tool. - spacebuddy, on 01/03/2009, -3/+11Digg is still broken and it is 2009. :(
- mynameisteejay, on 01/03/2009, -1/+9Very funny :) Go ***** yourself.
- DuffyDirect, on 01/03/2009, -0/+7google reader is great, and you can post comments with shared items within your circle of friends which is a lot more fun and interactive than digg if you ask me -- no one i know in the real world uses digg at all...
- Darkaged, on 01/03/2009, -0/+7Digg shouldn't be adding new things, they should be fixing the things they already have.
- G-RaZoR, on 01/03/2009, -1/+7It matters ok.
- Newsdude, on 01/02/2009, -4/+10Congrats Digg on a good 2008, and hope 2009 is even better!
- dawnraid101, on 01/03/2009, -2/+8All we need now is better dupe detection.
- PullingTeeth, on 01/03/2009, -0/+6Then go to icanhazcheeseburger.com - when I want to read the news, I want news stories.
- purzzzell, on 01/03/2009, -0/+5You both forgot Scientology.
I remember when 8 of the top 10 on the front page were scientology related. - mytealjacket, on 01/03/2009, -0/+5Does he do this every year, or is he trying to distract people from the 'revolt'?
- Macskeeball, on 01/03/2009, -1/+6Use the customize link at the top of the page to set which topics you want to see.
- Durrok, on 01/03/2009, -0/+5I miss Tech Digg. :( I wish they would have branched off onto another site and left digg the way it was... sure there would be some bleed over but it would have been to a far lesser extent. I can filter by submission category but the RSS feed does not filter and the amount of crap coming in far outweighs the stories I care about which honestly are few and far between. I mostly just come here these days because everyone I work with browses digg and it gives me something to talk about while by the proverbial water cooler. I put in my two week notice on Friday and unless my three co-workers all browse digg at my new job I highly doubt I will continue to read it.
- inactive, on 01/03/2009, -2/+6Many of the changes have brought about positive effects. Showing interviews with prominent figures sends the right message about community involvement. I am looking forward to the next town hall presentation. Digg keeps up with the times, and deals with many of the new issues that come up. Thanks for providing this framework.
- inactive, on 01/03/2009, -0/+4Finally a comment worth digging up.
- DearSergio, on 01/03/2009, -0/+4See you on the inter-machine!
- rterminator69, on 01/03/2009, -0/+4Really nice video and it's good to see how far digg has come the past year. Now back to watching my older eps of diggnation.
- thisisparta, on 01/03/2009, -0/+4I'll digg to that.
- wracker92, on 01/02/2009, -5/+9Mission accomplished.
- georgemason01, on 01/03/2009, -0/+3cx
- Kosh, on 01/03/2009, -0/+3No, the article announcing Obama's victory was something like 40K.
- ThantiK, on 01/03/2009, -0/+309 F9 11 02 9D 74 E3 5B D8 41 56 C5 63 56 88 C0
Oh wait...I'm a year late.
Damn. - 808ethan, on 01/03/2009, -0/+3As bad as some of that was, it is nice to think we all survived the crazy 2008 election on Digg. Even through hating it, it brought us closer together.
- Vindexus, on 01/03/2009, -0/+3What?
- ileftfark, on 01/03/2009, -0/+3It's like TMZ with mountain goats.
- purzzzell, on 01/03/2009, -0/+3Ron Paul!
Obama!
Shoutout on Colbert Report!
Scientology!
Obama! - inactive, on 01/03/2009, -0/+32008 digg: tons of facebookers, less techies, overall less intelligence.
- inactive, on 01/03/2009, -1/+4Link to this video please.
- fugazied, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2Growing pains. As the amount of traffic went from large to MASSIVE, of course the spammers came to the party and the people interested in manipulating the system. Rose and the Digg programmers are a smart bunch, I think they will come up with some solutions before long. In the meantime, go outside and get some sun.
- Jeffler, on 01/03/2009, -1/+3Power users >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Spammers
- ChileanGoD, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2Wow... it went up to 19.9k diggs. Is that a new record?
- ployd, on 01/04/2009, -0/+2NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
- fugazied, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2Wait, was that a pedobear pumpkin?? Evil geniuses over there at digg.
