- xb00t, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Well, now my girlfriend becomes useless...
- MrKite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9If you held this device up to the digg community, it would probably blow up!
- Synoptic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9lol...I can think of quite a few people I'd recommend this to.
- boredzo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"If the wearer seems to be failing to engage his or her listener, the software makes the hand-held computer vibrate."
You just know that somebody is going to buy one, then wear it in a specific location, then walk around boring as many people as possible. - TheReport, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6How bout instead of the device slightly buzzing the recipeint to warn them that they are being boring or annoying, they shock the ***** out of them and make them struggle to get back on intresting conversation?
- lukas88, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Hell I would take one! But I would set it to let everyone else know if they were boring ME.
I swear to god, if I ever have to hear of another zerg strategy from my friend ZJ... - seriatim, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8'cause everyone needs to know who to avoid. Just look for the vibrating autistic kid.
- xodex, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6A device on what to say to say to get girls, o_o boy do I need one of those, I hate making things up myself ;D ahaha.
- bonoes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5HA!
Some female highschool teacher would love one of these rightly placed on her body.
"And now class we're going to go over Social Economics... Again." *moan* "And again..." *squeal* "Untill we get it right!!"
....
"Right after I go smoke." - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'm sure you have a social disorder because you really need one
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Um, I don't get it... So if you get buzzed, then start reciting the first 100k digits of pi?
- geronimo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7I have one of these already, it's called a wife.
- blackthorn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3maybe a new category for digg.
- Dradis, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7I can think of a few digg users/ stories to apply this to.
- sundancekid503, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Have I told you guys about my most recent vacation? Wait until you see these pictures**ZZZZZAP**....bahhh nevermind
- MrGeneric, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3There is something about the idea that I find annoying, it implies that autistic people are boring etc. The defect lies with the fool who is bored and not honest enough to say "I'm bored!, Let talk about ...." etc. i.e. Communications is a two way process and if "normal" people are not smart enough to adapt by using direct and honest verbal cues, then they are at least 50% responsible for the issue.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Hey dan, your device should be vibrating right now.
- robusteza, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i can nearly guarantee that the only people you have ever told to shut the ***** up are those whom you typed it to in your WoW forum.
- kolop1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4 If there were a device that would help me get women, I would be on board wth it.
- terrab0t, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"...small enough to be pinned to the side of a pair of glasses."
One issue I see with this thing is that autistic people rarely, if ever, make eye contact with the people they are talking to. They tend to look down or off to one side. That behaviour alone makes them less engaging speakers, but this device won't work very well if it can't auto-aim to find the nearest person's face.
Of course, the device could also be taught to buzz whenever the wearer is speaking and not looking directly at somebody. - bitswapper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I wonder how long the batteries on mine would last? Probably wouldn't get me through the day, especially since it would go off every time I talk to myself in the mirror....
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The device should auto-shoot a joke instead of vibrate, the only problem is if the jokes are dull the device will enter an infinite loop.
- sanmarcos, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Tech sites are probably filled with of autistic nerds. It is statistics.
- Wamzlee, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7Dupe!!!!
Besides, I already have one....wait, why is it going off now? *confused* - HairyFotr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4BZZ BZZ BZZ
- msaleem, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4true that. Maybe that should be the next digg function. Report as lame = vibrating story... lol...
- greenoch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If people all over start using this like an iPod then its a social issue. This is just new technology waiting for a way to use it!
- dan0111, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3This is kinda ridiculous. Now we're introducing technologies like this into social situations...where is this all going to end? Soon we'll have devices telling us what to say to get girls, or what to say to make your parents happy. I personally think that we're going a little too far with technology.
- pauldonnelly, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Suddenly my Christmas shopping got a lot easier.
- eHardOn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3..if you held this device up to the digg community, they probably wouldn't know what it is.. so few seem to read the articles. It's true.
- serra, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It would be even better if the device would launch out a giant mallet and hit the bored/annoyed person in the head. It's not nice to get bored/annoyed when talking to autistic people!

http://www.htk.com.br/ - ChuyMatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Probably because autism is very cool in a behavioral science way and is not very well understood yet.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autism - airship, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Here's a clue - if you're a Digg regular, anything you say to anyone who isn't is automatically irritating and boring.
- serra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's messed up. Grrr!
- ChuyMatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1But please understand that autistics do not recognize social cues for the most part. What you are asking people to do is be "rude" in a social setting.
I still think that this would be a bad idea, as most autistics are so high anxiety anyway that a buzzing would probably send them to a safe place anyway. Probably as much as someone saying "hey, are you listening to me?!" - stumpadoodle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1sounds almost cruel in a way...but it would be quite useful for this female I know in my study hall...just can't take a hint! Some people should be required by law to carry these XD
- bossm4n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Somebody please send one to Bill Mahr.
- habenneas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Rotors: IV,I,V, Start positions: A,U,T

- robusteza, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1this thing terrifies me as a special educator, the last thing i need to do is discourage my clients by having them realize that i'm bored, it's not personal, work's boring. but, i doubt this would be of much use anyway as learning to recognize physical manifestations of emotion is a rather rudimentary skill which most autistic people are able to learn with relative ease. the more difficult skill is learning to overcome their lack of empathy and gaining the ability to react to or care about the discomfort of others.
- robusteza, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1perseveration is boring and very, very often prompting will not break the cycle of perseveration. i am deeply invested in the disabled community as an educator and advocate but playing nicey-nice and appointing ourselves the PC police does nothing to further the cause.
- ScottJG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If only my teachers wore this perhaps I would go to class more.
- Hardcore41, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Whats with all the stories lately about Autism?
- Nicholias, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0you are f#d up for using that girl for sex.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Alot of money probably went to this, rather than using my method, which is to just walk away from the person.
Or, here's an idea: tell the to shut the f**k up. - jguy584, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This device will work wonders for more then just autistic people
*looks at girl friend*
(i use her for sex, and plan on dumping her soon) - 1ivewire, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The scientists' names are Picard and Teeters. And if you find this comment irritating, I'm autistic.
- IcedZ, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4not just for Autism..
- Nicholias, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Only right 64% of the time!!!
Guessing randomly would get you 50%. This "device" needs major improvement to be worthwhile.
"When presented with fresh video clips, the software gets people's emotions right 90 per cent of the time when the clips are of actors, and 64 per cent of the time on footage of ordinary people."
It clearly works better if one is trained how go give off the correct "bored or irritated" facial expressions. So the moral of the story is, be more obvious in our expressions? -
