- Aeon53, on 10/12/2007, -3/+57I know a lot of people hate dell and most digg users are kinda anti-dell themselves, but you have to be blind to not see that this is a good deal.
One thing though, they said it's avaliable now but I went and checked out dell.com and it still wasn't there.
In any case, once I get my new desktop, I'm gonna be in the market for an LCD so I'm definitly gonna keep my eyes open for this. - angelp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20@sinner - How could they have purchased a monitor that's not even being sold yet?
- eclectro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19before people go buying from tigerdirect, people really need to do their research on them.
- adamkmccarthy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13dell in europe are fleecing us! will we ever see components this cheap? $280 is about €230, the 2007fpw costs €606 ($759) in ireland & the 2407 when not on special offer is €1000 ($1,253) - put it in perspective, the 24inch display in the US costs $719.00, change that to euros and its €573.585?? how come it costs almost €500 to send them here to ireland???
- sTiVo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Article states it's available immediately, but I can't find it on Dell's site. Anyone actually know when/where we can get this?
- Jimgress, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10This is fantastic. I was planning on buying two 2007wfp's but I guess this changes my mind dramatically.
As long as this monitor doesn't have the gradient banding issues of the early release 2007wfp's (which were fixed by the way in the later released a02 and a03 models) I don't see how anyone could pass up such a deal. - EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Dell prices vary with the tides.
- wolfzero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Dell Outlet has 2007WFP refurbs at @ $319, and the 2007FP @ $359. Just thought I'd point out it's not THAT much of a price drop, if you take this into consideration. Also, what's up with 1680x1050? 1920x1200 or bust.
- IBadassI, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Searched for it today on the dell UK and US website, doesn't show up when I search for just the model number? Any ideas of how I can get hold of it?
- Teaboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8So that's two of us in the UK that want one! (or two, in my case)
- waynejkruse10, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Some Rev0 and Rev1 2007's had issues but the Rev2 ones (the current ones that they are selling) do not have the issues that the Rev0 and Rev1's have.
- dustyshadow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I have the 2005FPW and the only issue I see with it is backlight leakage but you only see it when the screen is black. The thing that is good about Dell is if you hate it you can just return it. My first one had some dead pixels and they replaced it for me. It's worth a try at that price if you are looking for a new monitor.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I'm about to order one. They any good?
Also, that whole 5ms thing is a total crock of *****.
Its closer to 12ms when you realise that a lot of shady manufacturers changed their speed rating from the time it took to go from black to white to black, to their 'new and improved' grey to white to grey metric. The new way is less than 1/2 the rated ms, even though the actual time is exactly the same.
Guess its a bit like that ***** PMPO crap that most people mindlessly buy! - adamkmccarthy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6just did a quick conversion on the 30" displays;
in the US its $1445. in Ireland if you convert it to US$ its $2507! (i.e. €2000). If i ever wanted one i'd book a holiday to the US, buy one and still manage to come back with a few hundred bucks.... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Is this a 6-bit or 8-bit panel. I'm surprised noone has brought that up about these cheap "fast" panels.
- angelp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@Kent - I knew what he was referring to...I just thought it was a little early to start downing a product that hasn't even gone on sale yet. Not to mention it was incorrect for him to state that people purchased it.
- angelp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Is it me or did they just drop the prices of the monitors? I just went to the site and the 2407 is now $679...I could have sworn it was $719 twenty minutes ago.
- cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -0/+6Ditto in Australia. The monitor is $USD289 - roughly $AUD385.85.
On the Australian Dell website, it is selling for $599 - after $250 off. So, $849 without the special offer. - b0bby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5As I mentioned above, there is an EU tax of 14% on imported monitors over 19", so it's natural that 19" will be the sweet spot in Europe.
- olegk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Or you can get a 20.1" one for $269 (incl tax and shipping)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824112176
or 20" widescreen for $264
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824009085 - StarManta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5What it has in common with the one already being sold is the display component, which is NOT the source fo the color banding - Apple's Cinema Displays use that same component. So, whether or not this monitor still has that issue is still up in the air.
- kent1146, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"Sinner...not everyone stares at their monitor or TV for "several hours a day". You need to get out more."
And apparently, someone who uses a computer less than "several hours a day" has time to check Digg, and submit comments. You need to get back to work :) - kent1146, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8@angelp:
The comments he is referring to are for other models in Dell's LCD line-up. In particular, the 2007WFP.
You are right, that since this unit is not actually out yet, it's hard to get a real review on the final shipping hardware for that particular model. But in the absence of reviews, the next best thing is to look at reviews for similar units built by Dell using the same technology.
In the end, the conclusion is the same: Not the be-all-end-all of LCD monitorsr by any means, but a heck of a good deal for the price you pay. - MAdaXe42, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Yes, it's terribly difficult. What you do is plug two monitors into your machine, into two video cards (or a dual-head/quad-head video card), and that's it. Windows does it automatically, as does OSX, and for Linux you've got Xinerama.,
- EvilCowSan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Perhaps you should actually look at the price list and realize that that excel sheet lists the 2007wfp as 440 when dell lists it at 340 so this price list is obviously wrong/old.
- thunderer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The only thing that I was worried about for my upcoming Mac Pro purchase was the price of LCD screens; now dual 20" seems downright likely at this price.
- angelp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Dell's monitors tend to have a lot of inputs....The one I'm using now has VGA, DVI, Component, 4 USB ports, composite, S-Video, and a card reader, plus it's a decent screen. That's why people tend to prefer them.
- vultureboy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Sorry. am I missing something here? It's a 20" widescreen LCD for $290 which is about £170... I've just bought 2x19" widescreen LCDs for work at £129 each. From overclockers. Surely this isn't that big of a deal LCDs are common place now and 17" and 19" LCDs are shippping with new PC's you buy at tesco
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Because 1080P is 1920x1080, not 1600x1080.
You're going to add 30 pixels on one direction and still be 320 short on the other? What's the point? - angelp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I have the 2407 as well and it is an excellent monitor. I was going to order a 20 inch from them this weekend for $399, but I'll wait until they started selling this monitor for $289. I hope that the composite, S-Video and USB are the only things left out.
- e03179, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Be careful with 6-bit panels. ▀█▀ █▬█ █ ▄▄█▀▀ model is almost certainly a 6-bit panel. I think this kills the deal if you are serious about picture quality or gaming.
- statix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4whats rong with dell? dells awesome. same assemly line and parts EXACTLY from apple. the only differnce is that plastic and vanity.
- IBadassI, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Thanks for the tip, just checked out overclockers.co.uk and there are loads of LCD screens that are far cheaper than the dell equivalent given here.
- XSaYnt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'm surprised too; 10 will get you 20 that this is a 6-bit, TN panel. Otherwise the response time wouldn't be so fast. IMHO, much better to spend the extra $60-$70 and get the S-IPS version, the 2007WFP. Remember that you will be having this monitor over a long course of time.
- 12340987, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4contrast ratio anyone?
- strazz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I had the Dell 21" hooked up with VGA to Xbox 360, I didn't see any ghosting! I own two of these, they are awesome!!
- spellcheckd, on 06/28/2009, -0/+3this link is for the old model
- dstz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3In Europe there is Belinea which make good and cheap LCD wide screens. Also I believe there's a 70/80€ tax on imported LCD screens; which Belinea doesn't have to pay, I think that it's a German brand.
- slasherx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Having a few of these in an array of 4 would be sweet since they're so cheap. Is there any software or method to display across 2x2 monitor setup? Somewhat to simulate a bigger screen :) Any links would be appreciated.
- rickcarson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Interesting, but since you got dugg down, please excuse me while I threadjack your post. :D
On the Dell topic, people should note that the 19inch (square) has about 13% more pixels than the 20inch widescreen! (And probably costs less too, they give them out like candy samplers to corporate customers)
But there is a kind of psychological thing which goes on - people react to the 20 inch a lot more with positive comments about its size. Width seems to be more 'impressive' than total area.
Now with regard to the parent's post. He's splashed out on a great big 22 inch widescreen monitor... woohoo! Good for you... except... it only has as many pixels as the Dell 20inch widescreen!
So sucks to be you after all :D - limewood, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6i have the 24" as well.. but now that i've been using it a while i think i would have been better off with 2 x 20" instead. running at 1920x1200 doesn't leave much real estate when writing code.
anyway, i can't find a link to this new monitor anywhere on dell.. guess they haven't quite "busted out" yet. - azurechaos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I've been very satisfied with my 2007wfp that i got a few months ago. The screen's very clear and it's been great for gaming, not to mention it rotates to the side, and the additional inputs (and 4 usb ports). Props to dell.
- spikes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3And thats how the LCD manufacturers want it, they don't want anyone to *care* about them being 6 or 8 bit panels. I wouldn't touch another 6 bit panel ever. Gaming in very dark areas ingame are even ugly as hell on 6 bit panels. Never alone trying to do photo editing on one. Most manufacturers don't say jack ***** about this in their specs.
- dbalaski, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4My bad -- seems i misread model #
ahh -- if it has same specs -- then cool -- can't wait until it is on the dell site then...
Still 2007WFP isn't bad at $340
-- can't wait to see the actual specs once it is up there - yeranus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Your very right. In fact, the Apple 20" (M9177) and the Dell 2005FPW, 2007WFP have the same LG LCD panel in them. The dell has more input options (which means more electronics on the inside) and the Apple casing (most will say) looks better. Price point:
Apple M9177 - $699.00 US Dollars from Apple Online Store
Dell 2007WFP - $359.20 US Dollars from Dell's online store
I'm not telling you to go with either and I currently dint know the panel that's in this new dell. Go with what you like and see not the name. Read reviews and see what works for you. We can argue all day that this is "dell crap" but nobody has been using this extensively to review it so...lets just hold out. It IS an impressive price point...but a low price isn't always everything! - BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Use this site to search up panels:
http://www.flatpanels.dk/panels.php
Dell Ultrasharp panels are pretty much the same as Apple's Cinemas. - ylikone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I have a cheap viewsonic as well and have had no problems with it... best monitor I've ever owned.
- spellcheckd, on 06/28/2009, -1/+3again, this is for the old display. any1 got a link for the new product?
- MSchumacher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I just bought last month a Samsung SyncMaster 19" Widescreen, doesn't have quite as high of resolution at 1440x900 but is still DVI with a 4ms response and it was only 200$.
Maybe Dell's image quality is better, maybe not. But I sit in front of this thing for hours a day and don't see anything wrong with it. - jsmith39, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@angelp
