- GuyHersh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2**** THIS DEAL IS STILL IN EFFECT USING THE FOLLOWING COUPONS ****
2005FPW 20.1-inch:

$60 off code: B5SM90M526JSBK expires 10/20/05 at 5:59 am CT
Just verfied and they do work. Did not buy one tho.. don't have the cash :/ - das7282, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Are they worth buying anymore seeing as how monitors with built in DRM will basically have to be purchased for Vista?"
So there's actually someone out there that is actually going to waste their time with Vista? - 12340987, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1bah.
Had to make an account just to point out that tigerdirect.com has good 32" Soyo LCD TVs for ~$900. And later this year (xmas) there's supposed to be a glut of LCD panels due to manufacturing capacity increase, and prices will drop. - theundone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"'Are they worth buying anymore seeing as how monitors with built in DRM will basically have to be purchased for Vista?'

lol my thoughts exactly - commandar!, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've had the 2005FPW since May when Dell ran this same deal. It's an absolutely wonderful monitor. For the naysayers, the LCD panel itself is the exact same one in Apple's 20" Cinema Display, *BUT* the Dell actually has a better back light. Anandtech did a side by side comparison a few months ago.

HL2 and CSS can both be run in widescreen. But with games that don't support it, you can either succumb to the evil black bars on the sides, or you can have it do stretched widescreen with a little bit of distortion. I use the stretched with call of duty on my 2005fpw and it looks fine, but i dont get the advantage of a wider viewing angle like you can in CSS or HL2 with widescreen. - GuyHersh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Digg the new deal that doesn't expire till the 22nd!

Yay! - tjubb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Please help. I have a mac mini and are looking to take advantage of this dell offer. My question is should I buy the 2005FPW or the 2001FPW. Looks like the only difference is that the 2001FPW supports 1600x1200 which is not widescreen... Please help me waste my cash"
I have a mac mini with the 2005FPW connected to a KVM switch and displays beautifully! Haven't had any problems with it all. Only thing I need to do if I boot the mac while switched to another computer is click the "detect display" link on the top of the screen because it displays at 640x480. That's just a switchbox issue and not a monitor issue. You'll love this monitor should you decide to get it. I would love to get the 24" model one day. - quikepee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0

- pcgeek101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Damn ... I missed the time :(
- callmevlad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A little while ago, Dell was practically giving the 24"s away for business customers. A Dimension 9100 (with decent specs) was sold with a 24" for $1099 after rebate, shipped I bought two of these bad boys and sold the PCs to some friends for around $650 each. Now I have a dual 24" setup for under $900. I don't know how Dell makes their money, because these monitors are very high quality for a ridiculous price.
- katar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's useful. I wake up to see the deal, and it has already expired!!

I'm switching to the next gen Apples, but I'm just saying you'd have to be a damn fool to waste over $500.00 on something that will be non-compatible within the next year.
I mean, would they be having deals like this if they weren't trying to clear out some stock in preparation for DRM based monitors? - Technojunkie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0When Dell has absolutely, positively fixed the problem with their power supplies squealing when the 2405FPW heats up I might care.

It's a Dell. Did you really think there wasn't a catch with these things? - musicmeister, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I got mine last week. Widescreen = Glorious. I'm never goin back to 19inch
So bright, so clear, ahhhhh, i'm gonna stare at it some more. - cliffosj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Bastards, I just bought one for £356 we always get ripped off in the uk. Though thats still a good price for in the uk.
- Seaton, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Dude *cough* *cough* ur gettin a Dell.
- Snyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Someone please submit a story when the next deal happens on this 20.1 inch screen. I have it and love it, but my friend is looking to get one too.
- DannyB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I bought one last week, should come tomorrow. I know that since I actually bought it, there is going to be a really good sale going on for Dells "14 Days of Halloween" special, just to piss me off. But if there is a better deal later down the road, I suppose I'll be rocking dual 20's : )
- cliffosj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0£356 = $626
- suMMx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+02405 is an amazing display, i picked one up the first week they came out for $875 and it was worth every penny
- staticten, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm using one now.......thanks to you guys. It's awesome. my Total was like $437 (including standard shipping) which was still shipped to me in 2 days....
DIGG
might consider getting one again.......for my other DVI output that's getting a little lonely (for DUAL SCREEN). - Chanibus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I got the Dell 2005FPW for 359 shipped a couple of months ago, I fall in love w/ it all over again every time I use it...
- marc-ee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sweet! Just got one. That'll change my life around. Anyone want a huge tube monitor?
- Wartex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Too bad it expires today though :/
- jeremy.heslop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah I bought one when the last deal was going on...got it in next to my 21" Sony GDM-FW520 and the contrast blows my sony out of the water. I paid over $1500 for that friggin CRT! I went ahead and got another 20.1 inch to make it dualies on my humble GeforceFX5900. It will be sw33t!
- pizza_is_yummy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Kudos to guyhersh on posting an updated coupon!!! Buying mine now
- leprasmurf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dell makes bad computers, but also offer good deals on good monitors, thats the only concession I make to their suckiness.

OK, maybe I'm just not thinking about this thoroughly enough, but who do you guys suggest? I build computers for myself, my wife, or my son. That being said, who should I suggest to my numerous Aunts, Uncles, friends, etc.... who want continued tech support that I don't have time to give? - bytefoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They were $350 in March... :(
- capran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0commandar, I bought mine the same month too. $350ish after coupon and Dell Preferred Account. Truly a beautiful monitor. Replaced a 4:3 19" Planar that I also bought from Dell a few years ago. They have awesome deals on monitors, though I wouldn't buy a PC from them (but they do have some SFF Optiplexes that would be great for the non-techies like my parents.)
Games are awesome on this monitor with my Geforce 6800GT on my PC. Some will offer native support for 1680x1050, some you have to manually edit the config file for it. There are a few that don't work at full res, like SimCity 4 (although you can sort-of get it to work in Windowed mode.)
Of course my Mac Mini hasn't a chance of playing games at full res. :) - Otto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Picked up the 2005FPW a couple months ago when it was only $80 more (with discounts and such). Still well worth it at that price. It's an awesome monitor, incredbly bright, native res of 1680x1050 (thus making it a 16:10 aspect ratio).. I highly recommend it to anybody with a decent video card. Especially an NVidia 7800 GTX. :)

A Mac :)
My friend just got this monitor. It looks really good, might get one myself. - Otto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Most modern games will do widescreen with some tweaking. Half Life 2 and FarCry and most 3d games just require you to manually pick the resolution in the menu. HL2 supports virtually every resolution known to man, FarCry will do it just fine if you turn off the safe resolutions only setting (or whatever it's called). Doom 3 needs some manual tweaks to config files and screwing around to set the FOV properly (so you see more angle to the sides). But that's problematic, since it won't let you tweak the FOV in multiplayer modes (it's considered "unfair" since you can see more to the sides than the poor normal monitor players can.. also, somebody could tweak their FOV to 360 and see all around them at once, albeit weirdly stretched).
Those games that won't deal with it, well, you'll get some black bars on the sides. No big whoop. Configure the game to use 1280x1024 resolution and it'll fit right in the middle of the monitor with no stretching and will look pretty good. The monitor itself is smart enough to not attempt to stretch the image or what have you (if you set the controls properly). Or it can stretch the image if you prefer (I put it in this mode for watching widescreen movies on the PC). - HoGiHung, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Post a coupon for the 24" that works and make my day. :-)
Ho... - Ibaneye, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have one of these at home (2 19" 4:3's at work); it's a great screen. Refresh is a little sucky for game speed, but you can't beat the bang for the buck!
- stickyboot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great moniters!!!! Im running dual 20 inchers! Love it!
