So, they've lost about $580 x 20 customers... That's far less than the cost of just a small newspaper ad, and Dell often takes out full page ads.
And just imagine how many people flocked to the Dell site when they heard about it. That's what advertising is for: getting eyeballs. Some of those people will have be influenced and will come back later to shop.

- gunbuster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My good friend got a really great deal from Dell. He ordered a Dell 2405 Ultrasharp LCD monitor at a great $700 price. He got the LCD and it was working as promised, but had one dead pixel. Normally a dead pixel generally doesn't fall into the range of being 'defective', and he could barely notice it. But figured he'd call up Dell anyway just to see. Dell agreed to ship out another LCD, which he received a few days later. This one had zero dead pixels.
So he calls up Dell asking how they want him to return the original LCD... to which the Dell rep said, "we don't want it back". So he got two 24" Ultrasharp LCDs for $700.
But it gets better. He calls up Dell asking to return the LCD. Because at the time he ordered, the sale was technically over (he got the deal because he had a dell sales rep he called directly), they were going to refund him.... $1200!!!

I just recently ordered a DELL from dell canada....bought it for 900$ after shipping
it was a pentium D 930 dual core (3.0Ghz) and they sent me a 2.8GHz P4 HT
