- puggy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10It's rid.iculo.us.
- bonlebon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yahoo bought a LEMON, hmmm delicious.
- super_structure, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Ahahahah, Did people loose their data?"
From the link: "Update: Still waiting for the last remaining index to build. No data has been lost "
I know when I pull the plug on my PC, the hard drive doesn't loose all data. How about yours? - abrudtkuhl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yea. But they are finally letting us know what they are doing. I don't know why everyone was flaming me last week for posting about this issue. It's about scalability and is not trivial.
- kderby2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2More often than not, the comments that people add to stories are better than the stories themselves.

"Anyway, social/folksonomy sites are largely retarded"
LOLZ at unintended irony.
@Simpyfans
Here's the short version of what I already said over there:
The user base is what makes social bookmarking useful. No users == weak collective knowledge. Yahoo has more than 300 million users. I'd be shocked if simpy has 100,000. That's why this purchase is a good thing and you should all head over http://myweb2.search.yahoo.com/ and get on board and start making it even more useful. Also, the product is just better, with bookmarking community pools (with your friends who already have Yahoo accounts but probably never heard of delicious), and automatic page downloading/caching of the bookmarks. - pemdasi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yes, this sucks. I've been using stumbleupon to keep track of my tags...
- roeboedog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@abrudtkuhl - I am not sure if I was meaning to flame you, I was trying to point out that there is other ways to have your data avail. to you in the case where a site might be down. If you read the blog it says the power glitch was the start of a bigger issue. (nasty RAID).
I offer aloa for any scorching that was caused.
I too use delicious, but I do have a copy saved, and like I said before, If you have them coming to you as an RSS Live Feed in firefox there are still there is the site is down. - Hypersapien, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Fortunately I had a backup list of my bookmarks in my yahoo briefcase (for importing into firefox on new computers).
- jojo77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've actually been using Jookster.com myself. No tag words needed and it searches through all content of my saved site.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's funny, because the day they were bought by Yahoo! I said "***** it" and switched to Simpy.com -- and less than a week later, they're having all sorts of major problems. Not that the two are necessarily related.
Anyway, social/folksonomy sites are largely retarded and while Simpy/Delicious kind of sites have some degree of usefulness, I couldn't care less if they all were set on fire tomorrow and never returned. *shrug* - allthewhile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0All you yahoo haters are stupid. How did yahoo ruin flickr? Wait, it didn't. It actually made it economically viable.
- sennmen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just tried simpy, and the communityfeeling that delicious has is nowhere to be found there.
- multifaceted, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm glad I switched to simpy.com. Not because Yahoo brought it, I just liked the format better with the groups option.
- GarySwager, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It should be up really soon...
- hardcoreUFO, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So what are the alternatives to del.icio.us? Now might be a good time to try furl. Stumbleupon requires firefox, so they're out. Suggestions?
- launchpadtt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0and this is why applications should necessarily sit on the web
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"and this is why applications should necessarily sit on the web"
Damn it! My Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint have been down for 36 hours! This sucks! I was going to email the helpdesk about it, but my email client is down, too! - otisg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0For all you addicts, the patch is called Simpy.com .
- DKasler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0according to the website "we appear a number of continued hiccups"
Viva la spell check. - dmron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Anyone who cares about this already knows :P
- gamerzworld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0we are dealing with a number of continued hiccups

Like Yahoo!? Yahoo! was Del.icio.us's badest hiccup yet - ahmerhussain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Uh... I thought that yahoo hosted then now....
- smackfu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You obviously can't fire Joshua. He's the guy who got the money from Yahoo. You can take him out of sysadmin duties, but they're obviously going to do that anyways when they move it to Yahoo's server farm.
- super_structure, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0edmicman: "Do most people use "social bookmarking" sites to actually find useful new sites, or just to have a "web" copy of their bookmarks that they can access anywhere?"
I use it to impress my tech-savvy friends who tell me it's cool. I know that's why I use Digg. :) - panique, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Web 2.0 strikes again! I guess what that term means is "any service on the web that is overhyped and unreliable".
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0you can't efficiently index something that changes every 2 seconds
- nonokiaboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I JUST started using Del..etc..us about 3 days ago -- so i couldnt import anything from firefox and it drove me nuts!
the only reason i got onto it was becasue it's heavily integrated into flock's web broswer (http://www.flock.com). But whats the friggin deal if the site is down now. Maybe flock should change - so i can change too. - TheCheeta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I used it to keep a web version of my bookmarks that end up beig far more usable than any of the browser versions of Favorites/Bookmarks.
- leonbev, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, I hope that they switch to a both a more reliable database and more reliable UPS system in the future. Four days of downtime from on a commercial site is pretty pathetic.
- Kitsune818, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think on the TWiT that came out this morning Kevin Rose said that he had spoken with the del.icio.us guys and they were having some serious issues, to which the others responded that keeping their servers up was "non trivial". Dunno, in light of that, I would bet it has nothing to do with Yahoo!.
- Xopl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think it's pretty clear that it isn't a power outage but instead has something to do with Yahoo Integration.
- edmicman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Do most people use "social bookmarking" sites to actually find useful new sites, or just to have a "web" copy of their bookmarks that they can access anywhere?
- creepah, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Thanks for the news :)
http://www.proxyindex.com - Free Anonymous Surfing - brundlefly76, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sounds like someone didnt think to shut down their DB gracefully prior to backup power expiring.
In most cases, a site like delicious shouldnt go down on a DB error, for scalability and reliability they should use indexed files to drive the site, like Google and Yahoo! do. - palmdoc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's up guys, stop whining....
- macewan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it's up
- jcs_goog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"It's rid.iculo.us."
LOL Puggy! - rumurphy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Being a DB/SYS admin for an ASP... at about this time I would be working on my resume... as I would surly be fired w/ 4 days downtime. Anything more than a few hours.. the owner of the company breathes down my neck. Granted this a free product, but if they want user loyalty.. this is not the right direction.
- Otto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just switched to simpy as well. I don't know about "communityfeeling" or anything, but if it's not going to break and crash for weeks at a stretch, then I'm game.
- xsxs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0L little bit of sugar should take care of those hiccups!
- rc_collins, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Should I digg when i run across a site that is down? This is the lamest thing ever submitted.
--dan - robert3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Yeah right. And when they come back they'll be sporting a new Yahoo! style design.
- drawkbox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0A crack in the Web2?!? Non redundant systems in the web will detroy the platform, move on to a better tagging site.
- carguy84, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0lol @ puggy
- spectracide, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0wow, i don't care that some bookmark website was down for less than a day. lame story.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Ahahahah, Did people loose their data?

What is Digg?
Browsing Digg on your phone just got easier with our enhancements to the
