- AddamXavier, on 03/03/2008, -13/+249the real question is why are you recording Project Runway on your DVR?
- MasterThief117, on 03/03/2008, -4/+101***** Comcast.
- Jrr6415sun, on 03/03/2008, -9/+72suck it up and get a Tivo
My friend sold me his Tivo 4 years ago, I realized comcast was cheaper so I tried it out, after 1 week of using it I got so frustrated and missed Tivo so much that I bought a lifetime Tivo subscription and never looked back... best purchase ever.
Actually doesn't comcast use Tivo software now? Or atleast they're implementing it in the near future... - diggface5000, on 03/03/2008, -4/+51I love that he's watching "princess wishes" in the first screen shot and days of our lives in the second... project runway is the least gay of his guilty pleasures
- deltron, on 03/03/2008, -0/+34Dear Comcast, Why is my _______ So Dumb?
You can really fill anything in that blank and it's Comcast's fault in the end. - coltrane68, on 03/03/2008, -1/+34I hate my Comcast DVR as well. But you are lucky - at least you have the newer OS. I have the ugly display that is no different from the junk that Comcast sold in the early 1990's (you know - the one in which you can change the color scheme from "Ballpark" to "Boardwalk").
- inactive, on 03/03/2008, -1/+25First it's only Project Runway. Next thing you know, Oprah.
- xOKxWhy, on 03/03/2008, -3/+21***** Comcast
- crash331, on 03/03/2008, -0/+18TiVo won't get rid of this problem 100%. I have never used a Comcast DVR, but I have had TiVo since 2002, and this kind of stuff does happen.
It largly depends on the channel. Take Comedy Central, they are notorious for not having updated guide data. Shows like Southpark and Reno 911 often record several times a week even though I have it set to record first run episodes. You can tell which ones are bad, because it will just say "Southpark", whereas good data will look like "Southpark (2007) - Stan and Kyle become obsessed with Guitar Hero to the point where they're breaking high score records and it doesn't take long for Stan to realize that he could go even further with a different partner. Will the stress of being a rock star get to Stan now that his best friend is no longer by his side?" - bdogm, on 03/03/2008, -0/+17Heidi Klum.
- Tigerbot5, on 03/03/2008, -0/+17Recording The Daily Show is quite possibly the most annoying thing to try and record on a Comcast DVR...
- gravis86, on 03/03/2008, -0/+16TRANSLATION: His house doesn't have a clear enough view of the sky for satellite to work, so he has Comcast and he hates it.
- KDAY12, on 03/03/2008, -2/+18Just build your own MythTV or MediaPortal box. Waaay better than TIVO, and its free!
- djepik, on 03/03/2008, -1/+15That happens to me too! I'm always getting multiple copies of my favorite show, Princess Wishes!!
- AndrewDB, on 03/03/2008, -0/+12Because it's Comcast.
There is no other explanation. - zdiggler, on 03/03/2008, -0/+12Its all on the stupid idoits that program the giuide and even more stupid idiots that work at the network that don't want to follow the frigging broken standards that TV guide companies have, like where to put the Repeat, EPD numbers and First day of air etc.
NETWORK PEOPLE DONT' WANT TO DO THAT. They hope that their re-run will be recorded on your Tivo so that they will get more viewer ship. Don't blame the people who makes the DVR blame on the network who don't want to put Meta Tags on their guide information. - kenvsryu, on 03/03/2008, -0/+10It's too bad ReplayTV died off.
- Carmilla07, on 03/03/2008, -4/+13It does this with The Soup as well. It's so annoying I have to set my DVR to only keep one episode of Project Runway and The Soup otherwise it takes over. Ugh I hate comcast but it's the only company around here.
- inactive, on 03/03/2008, -1/+10Why buy an HDTV and watch ***** quality video? Pointless video, btw.
- Ryan2845, on 03/03/2008, -1/+9They are implementing tivo software, but only as an extra feature I believe. So they will have regular Comcast DVR for one price, and then Comcast + Tivo DVR at a higher price. Always finding new ways to rip people off.
- solidus636, on 03/03/2008, -0/+8Digital Video Disc recorders?
- antoniojvr, on 03/03/2008, -0/+8I'm guessing you guys have the Scientific Atlanta box (Comcast's HD-DVR). The regular DVR is a motorola box.
The Scientific Atlanta box has that ugly display and I swear I'm about to chuck it and buy a Tivo. - insomniac8400, on 03/03/2008, -0/+8Hmmmmm, I bet he isn't smart enough to move his house to a town with a different cable company?
- AgamousChild, on 03/03/2008, -1/+9Tivo FTW!
- rufo, on 03/03/2008, -0/+8Uh, no. A TiVo HD is $250 from Amazon, not $700.
- SmooveO, on 03/03/2008, -1/+8This is priceless. Then try calling customer care to ask them for help, but first - enjoy being put on hold for 45 minutes!
- rufo, on 03/03/2008, -0/+7Then either you don't know what you're missing or you're one of the lucky ones. TW has two DVR systems; one is barely above useable, the other is a complete pile of garbage. Most areas get the garbage one.
- DarkShroud, on 03/03/2008, -0/+7Go to youtube and do a search for "The Soup." Then go play in traffic for not knowing of this awesome show.
- cubbiesx, on 03/03/2008, -5/+12I'm no fan of Time Warner, but I have to say that their HD-DVR works amazingly well. I still don't get the laws behind us not having choices for our cable providers. We'd never have to live with these sub-par products in a competitive environment.
- Bootes, on 03/03/2008, -0/+7And you don't need their top of the line model. Especially if you're saying Comcast's DVR is good enough for you.
- BuckCynnie, on 03/03/2008, -0/+6I have Direct TV and love it, great for HD (Comcast HD blows, the compressing is pathetic), but my DVR has the same problem and it sucks.
- jstohler, on 03/03/2008, -2/+8Compared to TiVo, it's still amazingly non-intuitive.
- hipnerd, on 03/03/2008, -0/+6A TIVO HD costs $300. You can usually find it for ~$250 though.
Leasing the box from Comcast costs $11 per month. Tivo service is a few dollars more. TIVO still wins in my book. - insomniac8400, on 03/03/2008, -1/+7Kinda funny that media center doesn't make you pay a monthly fee, yet has better and more accurate data than comcast.
- MaxPayne3476, on 03/03/2008, -0/+6Holy *****! I just realized that! Why do we have the butt ugly version? I even just bought mine!
- theblacknight, on 03/03/2008, -0/+5If you can come up with two words that exactly match my (and 43 others at this point) view of Comcast, be my guest.
- RexMaxus, on 03/03/2008, -1/+6Only if your time is worthless.
I respect the idea of such things, but unless it is prebuilt it will never work for most people. - yeahclick, on 03/03/2008, -5/+10autistic child?
- TheKorn2, on 03/03/2008, -0/+5Don't do it. You WILL hate yourself for it.
I did the switch back when Tivo had no HD offering and the comCRAP DVR was the only game in town. I STILL hate it.
I'm building a mythtv box, and cutting the cable entirely. Everything I can't get OTA I can get via bittorrent. I REFUSE TO SUPPORT COMCAST ANY LONGER! - aahpandasrun, on 03/03/2008, -0/+5My Tivo does that too. Every single time Conan Obrien is on including reruns it records it even though I have it set to record only new episodes. I don't think it's a problem with Comcast.
- bradleyland, on 03/03/2008, -0/+5I see that you are fluent in idiot. You must work in desktop support.
- ZachSka87, on 03/03/2008, -2/+7WhaT?
- louiedog, on 03/03/2008, -0/+5You got hosed. I've had two comcast installs in two years and both times they waived the fee over the phone when I ordered because I told them that my place was wired and the guy would basically be delivering a box. I was polite and just asked if they would take off the fee.
- crash331, on 03/03/2008, -0/+5I was going on TiVo's website for their top-of-the-line model.
https://www3.tivo.com/store/boxdetails.do?boxName= ...
Seems it's $599 now, though. Last time I looked (Before Christmas) it was $799. - todlo, on 03/03/2008, -1/+6mythtv + schedules direct = epic win.
- RetiredMidn, on 03/03/2008, -0/+5I agree; I still have my early-model ReplayTV and there is much to prefer over the current offerings.
- rufo, on 03/03/2008, -0/+5No, RTFA - in this case it is the Comcast DVR - the guide data is being properly flagged as repeats, and it's still recording it. TiVo wouldn't have that problem with that show.
Depending on how generous Comedy Central is with their time, sometimes The Daily Show is a problem and sometimes it isn't - but there's at least a moderately easy workaround (to tell TiVo to just record one timeslot's episode). - n4cr2k, on 03/03/2008, -0/+4ReplayTV's are awesome. Aside from only having 1 tuner and no HD, they are still excellent DVR's. I still use mine. My comcast DVR is absolute junk. If I didn't get the DVR service for free I would never pay for it.
- lougoose, on 03/03/2008, -0/+4 I wish.
- broeks, on 03/03/2008, -0/+4Hbo? Hdtv? Don't you still need a cable box for this stuff?
