- wes00mertes, on 11/18/2007, -1/+111And those kids are pretty good at that game for not even looking.
- inactive, on 11/18/2007, -2/+85"Do you have any nostalgia about the days when computers were big and slow" ... like your server?
- Aspire36, on 11/18/2007, -12/+93ya know, if I had to grow up with computers that big and slow, I would of prolly never became a nerd... I'd probably be off somewhere with a car and a girlfriend.
- JavertHolmes, on 11/18/2007, -5/+80See the dude with the cowboy boots and his extra-large keyboard thinking he's suave while hitting on the local hottie?
See what a dork he looks like?
That is how the brushed metal macbooks will be perceived in 30 years. If you have images of you posing while looking suave sitting behind one of these laptops, delete them now before you find yourself being used in a 2037 photo compilation. - cuj0, on 11/18/2007, -1/+75wtf is wrong with their faces?
- smurf22, on 11/18/2007, -4/+76I like the brother and sister staring at each other, who cares what game is on the screen when you can look into each others eyes right?
- ielliott, on 11/18/2007, -1/+64Wouldn't you know the first things humans printed off on a large-scale dot matrix was a half-naked chick.
- inactive, on 11/18/2007, -0/+54Just like your car and girlfriend in Second Life?
- wes00mertes, on 11/18/2007, -4/+54Man, he is looking suave with that computer(?). And her, with that sleek tape recorder.
- nepawoods, on 11/18/2007, -4/+49yeah ... obviously brother and sister, and infatuated with each other
- rainss, on 11/18/2007, -0/+38not to mention that girl's ridiculous sideburn
- antdude, on 11/18/2007, -2/+32Nice legs. ;)

- miztaken, on 11/18/2007, -2/+27Down at 62 diggs. Nostalgic server indeed.
- biohazard2, on 11/18/2007, -1/+24Mr. Fancy Pants has a boner for ripping 1979 Tax Forms.
- inactive, on 11/18/2007, -5/+28You are such an ass.
- Myztry, on 11/18/2007, -4/+25I have fond memories of #2. The classic CoCo (TRS-80 Colour Computer - Circa 1982).
It came with Microsoft Extended Basic (but I'll try not to hold that against it)
256 x 192 hi-ires (monochrome) or 128 x 192 lo-res (4 colour). Used either a primary or pastel pallet.
Funnily enough the biggest selling CoCo magazine was called Rainbow (wow. 4 colours)
I learnt 6809 machine code at the age of 12 of one of those beauties. 16 bit address registers!
Upgraded mine from 32k to 64k by solidering in chips and cutting resistors of the board,
which allowed me to tape over the cartridge reset pin, and copy ROMS to ram (SEE:warez).
Also obtained a bare double sided 5 1/4 drive, built the casing and power supply from scratch.
And replaced the firmware with JDOS. Double the capacity. Just hard to cut notches in the floppies.
Also had the CoCo running OS9 (not by Apple) which had true multi-tasking. 1982. LOL
I wish computing was still exciting... Not just hardware advancing, and OS's staying relatively stagnant... - OropheR, on 11/18/2007, -6/+27And North Americans were still slim...
- GliTCH82, on 11/18/2007, -5/+25Would ya of prolly learned the difference between of and would've? :-)
- sequethin, on 11/18/2007, -1/+18he's thinking "well... luke skywalker liked HIS sister..."
- Myztry, on 11/18/2007, -0/+17Tandy/Radio Shack must have sold some to a religious a religious cult. You know, the ones that aren't allowed to breed outside the group, and always seem to look a bit quirky.
- inactive, on 11/18/2007, -0/+17They just need to tighten up the graphics a bit...
- Paktu, on 11/18/2007, -0/+17Not only that, but you had to wear onions in your belt. Which was the style at the time...
- whoamarcos, on 11/18/2007, -1/+16oh, you mean the creepo twins? im glad someone else noticed them too.
nothing like enjoying a good old fashioned video game while staring lovingly into your twin sisters eyes.... - vault, on 11/18/2007, -5/+19Had a TI-99/4a and then a Mac Classic...good times :-)
- inactive, on 11/18/2007, -2/+15Back in the days when there were no fat chicks.
- jonw, on 11/18/2007, -1/+14Wonder which one they use as their current server. :p
- danpat, on 11/18/2007, -4/+16I love the smoking hot mini skirt wearing computer girls!
How's the look on the guys face when he realises his wife is printing his hidden pr0n. - synthsrkl, on 11/18/2007, -1/+11http://img.funtasticus.com/2007/nov/computer_era16 ...
phwarr check out that dual monitor setup! - Wartz, on 11/18/2007, -4/+14mirror anyone?
- acidbass, on 11/18/2007, -0/+10Gotta love those 70s photographers coaching those model shots:
"Ok kids, before we take the pictures, put on a nice big smile and look at each other while youre playing the computer game, so its looks more natural." - andywebb95, on 11/18/2007, -0/+9You and me both.
Creepy even by early 1980's standards. - inactive, on 11/18/2007, -0/+9Digg's server dialed me back home, it wanted to play a game of chess.
- jimmiss, on 11/18/2007, -1/+10That's the only pic I saved. Old school CompSci pimp:-)
- pegisys, on 11/18/2007, -0/+9I think you are too young to reply to that comment

The sad thing is that the TI89 probably has more processing power - lharrod, on 11/18/2007, -0/+9We will all look like royal dorks to our grandkids, regardless of what computer we use. And I suspect that Gates and Jobs will still be our Nerd Overlords.
- falafelkiosken, on 11/18/2007, -2/+10I like the picture of the woman putting a floppy the size of a LP cover into a computer the size of a small fridge
- DBNKR, on 11/18/2007, -0/+7You just so ***** did not get the ***** point. *****.
- DBNKR, on 11/18/2007, -0/+7You just so ***** did not get the ***** point. *****.
- ZachSka87, on 11/18/2007, -1/+8They still use LISP for AI programming...
- CatsAreGods, on 11/18/2007, -1/+7They don't use FORTRAN any more? Sheesh!
- agilligan, on 11/18/2007, -3/+9Try your bathroom...
- lharrod, on 11/18/2007, -0/+6And a hottie, too, rowwrrr!
- Gimpishi, on 11/18/2007, -0/+5He was doing that to point out how the computer will remove the need for the forms. Too bad he was completely wrong....
- DigitalN, on 11/18/2007, -1/+6It's okay, it happens to many men all the time. but you don't have to lie around here, you can tell us its a 3.5" floppy.
- PhillyMJS, on 11/18/2007, -0/+5Wow, Radio Shack was really a force to be reckoned with in those days. Look at those classrooms and offices full of Trash-80s. I remember lusting after a sweet CoCo2 setup myself, back when I was in 6th grade. Instead, I ended up getting a not-quite-100%-IBM-compatible Tandy 1000 for Christmas in '85 (128K, years later upgraded to 640K and added a 20MB, yes-- MB, HDD), and used it until the day I brought my first Mac (an LC) home when I started college back the in fall of '91. Five minutes after I had that thing out of the box, I was hooked and Apple had a customer for life.
- moltek, on 11/18/2007, -2/+7yep.. good times... I remember going in the mid 80s to look for computer books in the public library!! in the 80s I had a Vic20, then a Sharp MZ800 (I miss you) and later Amstrad CPC464 and finally got a really desired Commodore64... I would really jump back in time if I could.. computers have no soul today. I guess this is why I collect old computers now.. I really miss these times.
- felchdonkey, on 11/18/2007, -0/+5A bunch of random images from completely different decades, with nothing at all connecting them.
It was one thing, back when Digg was a tech site, when people would put up interesting articles about the history of computers, with fascinating details and trivia, even finding machines the rest of us might have never heard of.
Now it's just some high school kid who finds a bunch of photos around the internet, has no idea what they are, so the best he can come up with is "Now the size, appearance and speed of first computers seem to be lame but it was not always the case!"
Great. -
