- rwbarat, on 10/12/2007, -3/+58This is a great April fools joke, reminiscent of last year's MPAA and RIAA joining to form the Music And Film Industry Association of America, or MAFIAA.
- dasunst3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27Hell would have frozen over if this were true.
- Lane5slacker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24I hate the Internet on April Fools Day... it can be cruel.
- ewsherm, on 10/12/2007, -6/+28***** the RIAA!
- Maeser, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21RARA Rasputin?
Russia's greatest love machine?
/obscure? - ipoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Awesome April fools' joke. I totally believed this for about 30 seconds, and started to get pretty happy. Then I remembered it was April 1st and a stream of tears began that will probably last a while.
April Fools FTW. - ungus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12It really is sad that this kind of thing is an April Fool's joke.
"You're going to be able to purchase a product legally without being treated like a criminal or having your ability to use that product limited. The revenue distribution is going to be much more fair as far as who gets paid for their work. This is all the result of a business decision that, in the end, will increase profits for the company WHILE it satisfies you."
"Sweet!"
"April Fools."
"F*ck you." - airwalkery2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11And, if it were true, I may begin to have a regained respect for the music industry. Too bad it seems like the most cruel, least funny April Fools joke ever.
- jbklego, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Oh, how I wish this was real.
- Yogurth, on 10/12/2007, -8/+17Sales of OEM Vista through new computers being pushed are better than XP for a simple reason...there are rising number of computer users compared to 2001 when XP was released. Retal Vista and upgrade sales however are catastrophic compared to XP. Get Your facts straight GibHunter.

- leffunov, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Argh, April Fools......If only this were true I would actually think about buying music instead of cursing at record labels for charging $20 for something not worth 5.
- CaptainBlack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5funny,
have you had any problems getting "highered?" - idonthack, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8That's kind of a reverse of what happened to me browsing Slashdot this morning.
Opening my browser to get some lolz from their traditional April jokes, I saw the story "48% of Americans Reject Evolution". ROFLz ensued.

And then I noticed it was posted yesterday. - hollowex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5we should make it real though. Respect the Artist, Respect the Audience is a good ethos... Someone should make a nice logo and a real agreement.
- robdazomba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4> sales arent lagging.. they are kicking ass in comparison to XP.
Apparently Kool-Aid is selling well too. - mcwiggin, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8It had me going till they mentioned OggVorbis... like any company would ever support that commi format.
- diulei, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Kind of a sick joke, IMO.
Wishful thinking. - Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4RIAA has supporters? Oh yea the mafia
- randomvictim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Who ever came up with this April Fools joke is sick in the head.
- kcpwnsgman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Look at the date, I can't believe I have to be blunt about this, but IT'S FREAKING APRIL FOOLS DAY
Welcome to the internet :) - SlvrEagle23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I dunno, guys. I just don't think this is really a joking matter. Hey, there goes our ability to freely find music and be treated like consumers and not criminals! Teehee!
Besides, if you're going to make a joke site with a stirring and thought-provoking message, a default Drupal template just isn't going to cut it. Add that to the "As Aretha Franklin sang" line and this one really just made me cringe...
Not trying to be a negative nancy or anything...just saying... =/ - Vash63, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6@kelly
You see, Digg's audience starts with people smart enough to use a computer, which requires more skill than realizing that creationism (And it's cheap suit 'ID') is *****. - BobbyMC, on 07/21/2008, -0/+3Is this the new April Fool's thing? Just date it a day earlier?
I'd say Rasputin wasn't that obscure but seeing as a whole list of the worst song lyrics of all time went by without mentioning it, I must be wrong. - Ajajadude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4What fanboys? What the hell are you talking about? I don't think Windows "fans" could care less if some Mac or Linux geek started trash talking Vista or XP or Windows in general.
Anyway, I died a little inside when I realized this was just a joke... - CanceledCzech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I might be buried for this, but I just want to say that I logged in just so that I could digg your comment.
- Ruhtar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I live just on the "new" side of the International Date Line so,
wait for it,
here it comes,
ALL YOUR DAYS ARE BELONG TO US!!!
Regarding the article though, it had me going until I saw a list of who was supposedly involved although maybe more telling is who wasn't involved, namely The Creative Commons and EFF. Both of which would never let a thing like this pass without getting involved and contributing what they can.
Oh, and none of the links actually being links helped flag it as a 4/1 joke too. - Draje, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Booo, a dream long crushed.
- lkeg56demn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2god damn april fool's
- noamsml, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You had me until the part about Sony BMG being a member.
But I still *want* it to be true! - D4N747, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If only it was true...
Actually, if only people would MAKE it true. - Afrotronics, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Herro Rara...
- thedpshow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Right. I saw Apple and got suspicious then saw Sony and closed the window. The WHOIS info is hidden by Domains By Proxy, which, if you don't know, is what shows up when you pay to mask the domain info when buying a domain from godaddy.com.
I might say good effort...but I'm sorry the site just looks fake. - b-dizzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1-Read story
-Did celebratory dance
-Dugg it
-Read comments.
-"APRIL FOOLS? *****!"
-Undugg it. - sezzme, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Sigh... too bad this is a joke. Depressing. REALLY depressing.
- thelastdyingday, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1better information here...
http://www.freedomforip.org/2007/04/this-just-in.html - maninblac1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For a while, i thought it was true, and then i read as one of the supporting companies "Sony BMG" and i was like, okay, it's a joke obviously!
- schestowitz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, it had a nagative score when I left my previous comment (which no longer appears to be making a valid point).
- franksands, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I dugg it because, though the site was half-baked, but the idea was nice. I wish this was true, and maybe it would be a good thing to remember that we should work to make that a reality and not just wishful thinking
- ungus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not sure it's meant to be funny, really. It's more of a satirical April Fools joke, poking fun at the huge problems with the music industry.
Just as I was starting to get used to the RIAA bullcrap, this reminded me how ridiculous it all is. - Hooj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Vista Sake? Microsoft must be broadening their product selection into different markets.
- Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The key to a good prank is to make it plausible, at least for a couple of seconds. This is not a good prank.
- superterran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Damnit, I fell for it! For a second there, I had faith in the record industry again. Too bad...
- yakizz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Wow! I'm surprised.
- aliguana, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1gah - see the thing with April Fools is :
1) You're only supposed to do it on the MORNING of April 1. Not carry it on all day. Learn your traditions
and
2) I just read this, and its April 2nd. The problem with April Fool on teh interweb is that it isn't necessarily April 1st EVERYWHERE. Jeez. If I posted an April Fool, all you American folks would be thinking "eh? its 31st March, so it must be true!".
Anyhow, this may be a joke, but its only a matter of time before it happens.. - pledomobil, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Impossible! This makes me smile.
- HolywoodRocker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Best April Fools Prank I've seen yet. Ha Ha Ha you had me going for about a paragraph.
- ClassicQ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Regardless that it's a April fools joke. What sensibility, I long for the day of DRM-free, patent free file format, and the respect consumers deserve (aka not treated like criminals). One day may this come true, hopefully sooner rather than latter.
Thanks to whoever set this up (from Scottsdale, Arizona through Go Daddy) - You may have planted the seed that starts the evolution - eventually they have to hear our cries and eventually the industry(ies) will need to wake up.
Thanks for the 30 seconds of hope and optimism. May we see the day - until then ..................... - alexhuyalegzz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very strange. I've heard about this month ago, but I can't remember where exactly.
