- pauldonnelly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is pretty cool. Fullscreen mode doesn't seem to start via the menu option or hotkey, although it is accessible by double clicking a playing video or clicking the "play button in a square" button.
- kman2k1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Anyone figure out how to get tv-rips through bt rss feeds? I tried the pirate bay's tv shows rss feed and crashed the sucka.
- holmesworcester, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The linux version will be out soon. It's actually a little farther ahead than the Windows version (the playback controls work and all that). We'll have a new release out in a couple weeks that fixes a lot of these glitches.
As it is, this thing subscribes to RSS feeds, Bittorrent downloads work, and it plays everything VLC plays. We've just got to get it more stable and flesh it out a bit. - sshack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nice to see this is finally available for windows.
But they still need some non-activist material. My liberal outrage gets tired once and a while and I simply want to be entertained.
Most of the entertainment stuff on there is videogame animation, digg and rocketboom.
and rocketboom seems like it's hosted by a future librarian (and not even the naughty sort).
So wake me up when they get some content worth watching. (besides digg I mean) - OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Until it has porn it is nothing!
- theantidote, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is really cool. I just quickly hit download without looking at the site and when I was looking at the preferences I noticed a setting for limiting your upload speed. It took me a second and then I was like "Bittorrent! Sweet!"
This is exactly what Apple should've done with iTunes. Bittorrent is not just an "evil hacker warez P2P network", it's a real distribution method and should be embraced. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hurray for this being out!
- Snyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's buggy as all hell, but man is it exciting to see it finally on Windows :)
- esteban, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Bug: Just after I opened it I got "a new version is available" clicked OK to downloaded it and it was the mac dmg."
I got the same thing, probably just teething problems. - SparQy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0uuuunnhhhh, most buggy. Potential, but will wait for further release.
Thx for the digg - navinjohnson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0On their homepage: Is that a screenshot of the Apple Intel ad or the Postal Service video? We don't want to rile up Ben Gibbard.
- abece, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow this is great!
- veritech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think this maybe what i was looking for
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sounds pretty cool. Is this supposed to be better than say, the shoutcast like video streams you can view on Winamp? I noticed it says to overcome the format problem it wants to support as many as possible. Given its open source nature, i wonder if it'd make sense to only support open formats.
- mdweaver7485, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Buggy as in crashes immediately after opeing. Acer Travel Mate 4650 Windows patches Uptodate. JRE is uptodate. Only installed programs were, Palm Desktop, Acrobat Reader, Office 2003, Firefox, iTunes, Nero, Scumm, Trillian, All software and drivers up to date as of 2/13/06. No digg on bugginess grounds, with no funny apps installed.
- Micrll, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0oooooo.....
Just in time for me to FINALLY get DSL at my house. Buggy or not it has great potential - donatj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0When it works, it works great, when it doesn't work it works horibly

- holmesworcester, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0automagically-- it's not like shoutcast streams: videos download to your computer, and you watch them whenever you want. Like Tivo. Advantage: no "buffering" and publishers can use Bittorrent to distribute very high quality video with low bandwidth costs.
thewebguy-- try a bittorrent feed like: http://www.commonbits.org/content.xml That's probably a lot more immune to the brutal impact of thousands of digg users. - TenaciousMe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Will be checking up on this frequently.
Definate digg for bringing it to my attention. - oboreruhito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not bad for a beta.
- StealthTomato, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0When this gets de-buggified, I'm going over to it for videos. Same with Songbird: I'll use it over WiMP when it's debugged.
- arganot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i love it and is great for a beta-------
- Hachi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The URL on their "download now" buttons is incorrect, so just go to the download page instead http://www.getdemocracy.com/downloads/
- gusflaubert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is pretty funny: http://feeds.feedburner.com/TikiBarTV
Click "add channel" in lower left and paste in. - Hachi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Bug: Just after I opened it I got "a new version is available" clicked OK to downloaded it and it was the mac dmg.
- thegsa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0great app,
now they need better content, a smaller yet high quality media format, and a bittorent sort of way of sharing files, and they will have a killer app. - thewebguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yikes, cool but this was not ready for even a beta it seems. or maybe all the videos' servers are bombarded from the launch, but i'm getting nothing :/
- Namco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0um, 5th I mean :)
- timeshifter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Can't get past them using a small "i" for the Internet !
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0neat idea :)
- JimXugle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0damn... just as I'm getting all my sh*t to linux.
- lasdigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Perspectives; Windows on the world of DTV.
Video Systems - Somewhat lost amid the fanfare surrounding NAB, the 1999 Windows Hardware Engineering Conference (WinHEC) also convened in April. Usually, the annual meeting ofdeserves the attention of video professionals. The computer industry recognizes that the move to DTV is the next 30 years' best opportunity to expand PC

that's true, and they need to make this thing lightweight and customizable - bigbens, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0...now if only those guys over at http://DigitalBicycle.org would get get their act together.
- funkytaco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.avidbeauty.com is in beta as well. I doubt it will ever make it out of beta. No features yet.
- jayf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I would like to see a proxy setting panel for this. I can't subscribe to any videos.
- SirSid, on 05/27/2009, -0/+0Looks great but I would just use it to test it for now. Lots of glitches and crashes you gotta be careful. Help by submitting bug reports
- jeremy.heslop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0got running in gentoo linux with a few tweaks ... see the changes I made at the bottom here: https://develop.participatoryculture.org/projects/dtv/wiki/GTKX11BuildDocs
- Namco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool, but more bugs than the 5rd act of Creepshow.
- esteban, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0More bugs: Player controls including volume don't seem to work, preferences don't save. Aaand, the whole thing just locked up after playing a Paula Abdul and MC Scat Cat video, looks like they got some work ahead of them ironing out the bugs. Heading in the right direction though.
- moonmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Its still in beta, FYI the Mac version is very usable.
- scottt106, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool idea, but this version is definately buggy, and quite the resource hog.
- Sacrifusion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can't even get it to play diggnation. i press play then it goes blank then right back to the selection screen.
- dbr_onix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is fairly.. erm.. meh.. You'd be easier using TVTAD and a bittorrent client (Easy to setup)..
I tried it out, and it was fairly crap at responding, closing it didn't kill the process, and reclicking the desktop icon claimined you needed to restart before you could repoen it (So killed the process and reopened it), downloads were only at 5-20kbs (Compared to 100kbs normaly)..
Good idea, but just hasn't got it right...
- Ben - tensionrev, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What is the difference between this and Videora, other than it being open source?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0you guys aren't kidding when you say it's buggy. i'm stoked that it's finally done but christ, it's buggy.
- xrayspex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Im loving it!
- rekka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This uses VLC and Firefox. Brilliant programs, but when you use them together... ugh! Hopefully interest in this project will get the Mozilla guys and the VLC guys working together and ironing out those bugs.
- Hachi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's been a long time coming, hope it doesn't take as long for the Linux version.
