- Celeron, on 11/05/2007, -5/+72Everyone should just boycott the 2008 Olympics.
- inactive, on 11/05/2007, -1/+53I, for one, will not compete.
- meachen, on 11/05/2007, -4/+50Can someone from the NSA please show China what cyberwar is all about?.......blast baidu with UFO laser beams or somethin
- inactive, on 11/05/2007, -7/+52Unilateral control over every single person on the planet.
- Rawler, on 11/05/2007, -1/+39go to Baidu.com and search "Falun Gong" ... it terminates your connection to the server.
- JoshChan, on 10/20/2007, -7/+40China is evil.
- CyberSally, on 11/05/2007, -5/+36Google is already censoring content for them. What more does China want?
- Oakes, on 11/05/2007, -2/+30"Maybe it's time for some Marxist-style 'violent and bloody revolution'?"
Err, that's what caused the problem. - rupertmorris, on 10/19/2007, -6/+28It's amazing what the Chinese people will put up with. Corrupt government, brutal ecological crises, and a complete lack of freedom of expression. Maybe it's time for some Marxist-style 'violent and bloody revolution'?
- inactive, on 10/21/2007, -3/+22I'm in Shanghai and just tested Google (.com and .cn), Yahoo, and MS Live Search and they all seem fine. I was online all day yesterday too and never noticed any problems. When did this happen? And where in China were these reports coming from? Any other Diggers in China to confirm this?
- SiNN4R, on 10/19/2007, -3/+19If they happened to be souless bastards that care nothing for democracy or freedom of information then yes. Thats exactly what they should do.
- wideawakewesley, on 10/19/2007, -9/+25Kevin was right, everyone should have bought stocks in Baidu.
- Aero347, on 10/19/2007, -5/+21I much prefer a cyber war. Rich people lose money and poor people don't die rather than rich people gaining money while poor people are sent to die.
- chess007, on 10/19/2007, -4/+17 This is Chinas response to us (the U.S.A.) hosting the Dalia Lama. A person who's country they stole and yet they claim he's a separatist. Kundun is a great film about the Dalia Lama.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kundun
He wrote multiple letters to Harry S. Truman before the Chinese invaded. He asked for help. Truman never even wrote him back. :( - BassMastr, on 10/19/2007, -4/+17Their own Google...
- SnapETom, on 10/21/2007, -3/+15Sleeping with the enemy really paid off, didn't it Yahoo and Google?
- inactive, on 10/19/2007, -0/+12As a side note, MySpace and YouTube were blocked by the Great Firewall all day yesterday. Unfortunately MySpace is back up now.
- madroneDorf, on 10/19/2007, -2/+14Strangely I can search on google for Operationan Ajax, Trail of Tears, Japanese American Internment camps etc etc.
I'm all for criticizing the government when it commits wrongs, but really people need to get a grip is and learn what real authoratism and censorship is - darkhero, on 10/19/2007, -6/+18***** China!
- mtekk, on 11/01/2007, -1/+10No, that was a Mao style violent and bloody revolution ;)
- stolenisotope1, on 10/19/2007, -0/+9Hahaha, thats ***** hilarious. When I typed in "democracy" I expected the 1st page to be wikipedia, but it just directs you to a page full of *****, mainly government run sites.
- benjpw, on 10/19/2007, -0/+8It depends on where you access. If you are on a "foreign" connection (If you live in any rich area - compound - or place for Americans to live oppuently) then most likely your censorship is less then the connection you could get a Chinese university library. Also they adjust depending on the day. When American officials come to visit they lower the shields a bit.
- le12484, on 10/19/2007, -0/+8Wondering if 1 million coordinated request for "Democracy" would crash all Baidu servers.
- Bamborzled, on 10/19/2007, -0/+7"Lame graffiti font"? You mean the Chinese language?
(I dunno if that's sarcasm or not. Digg does that to you.) - Roryking, on 10/19/2007, -0/+7I'm sure they'll find a way to fix that
- Gerbil_Juice, on 10/19/2007, -0/+7What are you talking about?
- Bamborzled, on 10/19/2007, -0/+6They're becoming less communistic. It's really more of a "MOAR POWAR" mentality within the Chinese government.
- aliengoods, on 10/19/2007, -4/+10Then they should get involved in the slave trade again. There was plenty of money in that, you soulless bastard.
- pennvneff, on 10/19/2007, -0/+6People talk about how ***** the US is, well China and Russia are coming up in a big way...again.
- murlox, on 10/19/2007, -2/+7Make cyberLove, not cyberWar !!!
- elementfire, on 10/19/2007, -1/+6You, sir, are doing the world a great disservice, denying us the opportunity to watch you hop around like a chicken with your head on fire.
Oh, my bad, that's the presidential election. - symbha, on 10/19/2007, -12/+17"It's amazing what the Chinese people will put up with."
Funny, I would say this about Americans. You think you live without censorship, and controlled public opinion... wake up. - thespudmall, on 10/19/2007, -3/+8Again, your part of the chinese government.
- thespudmall, on 10/19/2007, -2/+7IT'S A TRAP!!!
- Aero347, on 10/19/2007, -2/+6Well I don't plan on attaching my nipples to the computer with alligator clips.. so i'd like to see them try.
- Rahodeb, on 10/21/2007, -2/+6we can't make jokes about China out of respect for a revolution that you are predicting will happen?
ooookay buddy - inactive, on 10/20/2007, -3/+7I love how you think it would be a bad thing for the US government to arrest you for cyberattacking China's infrastructure.
- Rawler, on 10/19/2007, -1/+5i think someone forgot their /sarcasm tag..... err.. or not.. nvm.. I digg u down.
- inactive, on 10/19/2007, -0/+4If he uses Google.com then yes, he does. It's Google.cn that filters results.
- kindwarrior, on 10/19/2007, -1/+5That's factually wrong; Back before we were brainwashed into thinking government should be providing services to the people; Businesses and individuals did. The reason a Corporation exists is as a liability umbrella for the officers and investors in a business enterprise. The reason corporations are given this sheltering ability is so that the principles can work together for some "common good" (meaning a benefit to the community) without undo risk of personal assets. The old (and vastly superior) thinking was that these Corporate bodies answerable to the community for their profitability would provide better services than government bureaucracies but that, particularly wealthy, investors might be reluctant to fund such enterprises if doing so entangled their personal assets with those of the enterprise (they understood risk).
Therefore, while it is the responsibility of a corporation to be well run and maintain it's own viability (be profitable); It is expressly not the mission of a corporation simply to make money. We invest money as an expression of our power as individuals to effect the world around us. There is an abstract sense where every wise investment should profit but here profit means many things: Provide pleasure, edification, effect positive change. It is reckless and evil to invest in things that do ill simply so make more money. If it were not so then why not invest in shipments of heroin into the United States. - vanlawrence, on 10/19/2007, -1/+5Don't be so ignorant...it's called "Chicken Scratch" that's how they write. The chicken has long been sacred in China and it's natural enemies the Evil Cat and Ruthless Dog are routinely punished with executions - after which they are eaten as a sign of respect to the MIGHTY Chicken!
- edebolt, on 10/19/2007, -1/+5Truman had his hands full with the unpopular Korean war and record low (still to this day) approval rating as a President. There were some like Gen. Macarthur who wanted to take out China at the time but Truman did not have the support to do anything about it.
- Jlaugh, on 10/19/2007, -0/+4They seem to be more Fascistic since their privatizing so much.
- inactive, on 10/19/2007, -0/+4That would explain why there are several sites I have no problem accessing at work or home, but can never connect to at an internet bar. Is it region based as well, with major cities like Shanghai and Beijing having more unfiltered access than the rural areas?
- GasPoweredGnome, on 10/19/2007, -0/+3I can't take you seriously with a username like "jesusgaytard," sorry.
- Dapai, on 10/19/2007, -0/+3Who here is surprised by this? They already block hundreds of websites such as BBC, Wikipedia, Flickr, Google Video, Blogger(and all major blogging sites), Amnesty International, etc etc...they have a 30-50k strong internet army to keep the country dumb. Did you know that almost no one here in China knows about Tienanmen Square?
China is not communist. China is not capitalist. It seems very capitalist, but its not…oh its not. Try starting a business in China and let me know how it goes. China is authoritarian.
I live in China, and teach at a university owned by the government. I’m sure they know that I am writing this. As long as I don’t preach democracy or freedom (especially relating to Taiwan, Tibet, or Xinjiang), they won’t care what I do on the internet. Hopefully. - Jlaugh, on 10/19/2007, -1/+4We owe China like a gazillion dollars, why would they want to do anything but foreclose.
- limbo1334, on 10/19/2007, -0/+3"blast baidu with UFO laser beams or somethin"
Thanks, for that. It made my day. - uberkling, on 10/19/2007, -1/+4Never! I will show the 2008 games the same attention and focus I always show the Olympics.
Where are they again? - orukabir, on 10/21/2007, -0/+3It's ***** stupid.
They've been redirecting Babelfish to Baidu.com (Now it just times out, not sure if it's blocked or server problem). And now they've blocked Youtube.com. -
