- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -16/+62The most funny word creationists have invented is "evolutionist" which is like calling someone "common sensist" for saying 1+1=2. Evolutionary theory is documented over, and over, and over again. Religious lunatics really do believe in magic. In a sane world they'd be considered mentally defected. What's the difference in believing in Harry Potter? None I'd say. Believing in Magic Wands, or denying evolutionary theory well documented for years and years, same thing.
- Zarokima, on 10/10/2007, -3/+36Star Trek is a prophesy, since it takes place in the future. Star Wars, though, was a documentary; it makes that very clear at the start of every movie.
- scarper86, on 10/10/2007, -9/+42I can't stand you atheists. You make it sound like believing in an ancient deity for which there is no empirical evidence of his existence, and basing those beliefs on an ancient badly transcribed text filled with contradictions and factual inaccuracies is somehow irrational. We'll see who's laughing during the rapture. Just look at history and you'll see how well things have worked out for people when their faith was strongest. Heathens.
- radicaldementia, on 10/10/2007, -12/+42Hey look, you have every right to express your opinion, but you should at least be respectable of other people's religions. I've heard all the atheist arguments and I even agree with some of them, but you have to realize that some of us truly believe that Star Trek is the living testimony of Kirk's life and miracles, and I know that when I die Scottie will beam me up to join Him on his 5 year mission.
- civperc, on 10/10/2007, -2/+32every friggin comment section on youtube is a flame war between a group of dolts, it's ridiculous
- EarlOfLade, on 10/10/2007, -9/+37Me too, every time it advances, religion becomes more and more irrelevant. Who on earth are proud over believing in 2000+ year old goat herder and camel driver scifi? I mean, none of you think Star Trek is a documentary, right?
- TGMD, on 10/10/2007, -3/+26I remember when flame wars were only on news groups, then it went to BBS's then to chat rooms then to podcasting and now to online videos...
God I love technology. - solarsavior, on 10/10/2007, -3/+23ATTENTION!!! Please read the article before responding. It was the narrow-minded Christians that abused the DMCA to get atheist videos taken down.
- plasticquart, on 10/10/2007, -6/+24This thread looks like the appropriate place for this little nugget of makes-me-laugh-every-time-I-read-it:
"Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as you master, so he can remove an evil force from your sold that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree... yeah, makes perfect sense." - MrSketch, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19"I mean, none of you think Star Trek is a documentary, right?"
Blasphemer - ApokalypseNow, on 10/10/2007, -3/+21Despite this being about copyright law, I just know this is going to devolve into another science vs religion debate.
*sigh* And I just got my asbestos suit washed too. - geometry, on 10/23/2007, -5/+22Actually we just like slamming idiots, it's not our fault that Christians make it so easy.
- RST1123, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16This has absolutely nothing to do with atheists or Fundamentalists. I am affected by this loophole, so let me tell you my story. I write and sell Electronic Books on eBay. Often times, people will make a claim to eBay saying that what I'm selling (which I wrote) is their intellectual property and should thus be taken down. In reality, they are merely taking down my work so that they can actually steal my business from me, since what other people write about the same subject can be used as a substitute for my written material. In the end, people make fake accounts, tie them to fake names, and use ebay's ***** protocols to illegally take down my own material, claiming I'm infringing on their intellectual property. Absurd, isn't it?
- MrEguy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+17RE: "the science behind creationism"
There is NO science behind it. It's based on fables, allegories and fairy tales. - init100, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14@kelly
"Actually there is a great deal of science that supports the Bible."
You keep claiming that. Do you have any other references than über-crook Kent Hovind? - init100, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14@kelly
"Actually there is a great deal of science that supports the Bible."
That creationists like to call their fairy tales science does not make it science. - jakem1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14Hmmm, sounds familiar...
- geckofiend, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15You sir are an idiot.
- PotatoFro, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12dugg up because i believe in harry potter
- zeitgueist, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15Kent Hovind, a guy who offered the infamious $250k prize, is in jail for tax evasion? I didn't know that, but that's hilarious.
- FearlessFreep, on 10/10/2007, -5/+17Which has nothing to do with the article.
At the point is the use of the DMCA to force websites to take down content that you don't like if you can find some way to claim that it violates your copyright.
Which is an unintended consequence of the law, and probably one that, in their haste to do something for the big companies pushing it, that the creators of the bill didn't think of - jakem1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13The only problem with your argument is that there is no science behind creationism. If you don't believe me just read the bible - it's right at the beginning so you shouldn't have to think too much.
- green67, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12gotta love sarcasm....I almost took him seriously for a second!!!
- EvilGeniusTodd, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13Indeed. The christians do tend to want the victim role all to themselves.
- zeitgueist, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12@ Kelly Depends on what you mean as far as science supporting the bible. If you mean supporting the events of Genesis, there's pretty much nothing. Providing you take it literally....which most religious folks do not. Kent Hovind lies about his credentials, lies about his "facts", and makes up ridiculous contests that nobody can win, and then says that nobody winning is proof he is right. In verbal debates, he uses a rapid-fire approach that carpet bombs the area with so much ***** that its hard to refute. In print debates, which he refuses to take part in, he comes up way short.
I'll make it easy on you. Please give me ONE piece of empirical evidence for the creationist idea. - FreakyT, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Whatever happened to "Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's"? (Matthew 22:21 KJV)
- lolwaffle, on 11/03/2008, -3/+14My god is better than your god.
- juicebag, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9lol youtube community
The stupidest people on the internet, no contest. - EvilGeniusTodd, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10I am so conflicted about this comment............
- zeitgueist, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10@Kelly: See my above response to the first time you posted this same exact comment.
- EvilGeniusTodd, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Indeed. Smart people(nerds) are almost never reliable sources of information.
I prefer my information sources to have little or no education. Nor any interest in acquiring any. - tofuoni, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9According to the wiki on him, he is currently at FCI Edgefield in South Carolina - in jail.
- fyrehart, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Yeah, well then you're a Nazi.
(invoking the inevitable Godwin's law...) - scarper86, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8You need to do some more research there Atomic1fire. You're thinking of the philosophical definition of a theory which can mean a tentative explanation. A "theory" in science however means that it is a well-substantiated explanation that has been arrived at using other scientific explanations. It does not in any way suggest that it is weak, or experimental, or not widely accepted as factual. It's the exact opposite in fact.
Just trying to prevent you from making that threadbare, incorrect theistic assertion in the future. - Fartag, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Name _anything_ about the DMCA that's appropriate, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DMCA
It's simply the most backward law on the books that I'm aware of. Who besides major content distributors and lobbyists that "encouraged" its adoption behind the scenes supports it? Isn't this the clearest case of our representatives failing to do their job to represent us? Government of the people, by the people and for the people got a serious and near fatal kick to the butt when this happened and it seems neither Democrats nor Republicans are willing to repeal it. - spucky, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Star Trek is a documentary of the future. You think too linearly about time.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Religion is a choice. If you choose to believe in such untenable beliefs, don't be surprised when people make fun of you for it.
- vanlawrence, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7This happened to us once...except it was worse. One of our competitors complained to our service provider that we violated copyright and our provider suspended our account - the result was; our website went offline. Our provider made no investigation, just took us offline. Needless to say, we don't use them anymore. Servage (www.servage.net) was the provider responsible. I strongly suggest you avoid using them if you plan on having competitors.
- EvilGeniusTodd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7It's a pretend apples to nothing argument.
- noumuon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6or you could, you know, just ignore the comments, or, even better, not read the comments in articles that are essentially flame bait.
- unearth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Your mom is 1-Dimensional.
- Matri, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Oh goody, proof from a bunch of people who cherry-pick an ancient mis-translated book in order to find proof to support said ancient mis-translated book.
- init100, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6@kelly
Does him responding to your emails prove that he is not in jail? He could be in a resort prison. - neodorian, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Kent "*****" Hovind's copyright claim is bunk. He specifically said that these videos of his were not copyrighted and were free to be spread around. Once his detractors started using the videos to discredit and criticize him, his little club decided to try and retroactively copyright the videos so they could DMCA the Rational Response Squad.
I am clearly biased in this case but I still call *****.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=_mtrzNarjT0 - zeitgueist, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Again, there is no science in creation theory. You think that scientists are against creation because they hate God? Most of them are Christians. They don't advocate creation because there is nothing to support it. Scientists go where the evidence is.
- macaddct1984, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8What's even more deceiving is the fact that creationists use the term "evolutionist" to mean scientists or secularists. The way they use the term it has lost all relevance to the actual idea of evolution. Hell, the "Theory of evolution" page on CreationWiki states:
"The theory of evolution is an explanation for the origin of the cosmos and life on Earth, more formally known as the General Theory of Evolution. It was derived from atheistic, naturalistic presupposition, although some theists now espouse the idea. The theory encompasses the processes of biological evolution, the origin of life, and aspects of cosmic evolution via the Big Bang."
This couldn't be more wrong if they tried. - noumuon, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8"a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away" sounds like a documentary to me.
- zeitgueist, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6@Kelly: So I guess you're saying that you can't provide me an explanation? Thus far, the only thing you've managed to throw out there with any content is a bible verse correction.
To answer your comment, I have seen what he has to offer, and found it lacking. If you could provide me with some of the points that you found particularly convincing, I could possibly refute them, and hopefully educate you. - zeitgueist, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7This comment maid so little sense, my head exploded trying to wrap itself around it.
- gungaroo22, on 10/10/2007, -15/+21When it is so impossible and improbable, there should be a point when every man's logic and reason says "Wait... that doesn't make sense."
I will not respect religions. -
