- gamekid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Becoming CEO of Craigslist.org via a post on Craigslist.org... O_o *head explodes*
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Ugly as *****? I know that "content" isn't as popular now as it used to be, repler, but it's actually quite refreshing for there to exist a site that rides entirely on its content and not the sort of flashy ***** that inevitably exists solely to hide the fact that the site itself is utterly worthless.
- CaughtThinking, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You guys can laugh, deride him all you want. craig and his site is sitting pretty on the top of the world. it's forcing big name organizations like the new york times to change or DIE. he's been offered blank checks for his site by people like aol.
i'm just amazed someone can make so many right moves. craigslist is up there with "web 1.0" visionaries like google, yahoo, ebay. - verde, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Actually they make money by charging companies for job postings.
- orangeRam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This isn't a new story either...it was part of the craigslist story on 60 minutes about three weeks ago
- jeffness, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2when using 2 negatives and the word "and", you should make use of a negative adjective before both negative words. "That was terribly written and poorly laid out." flows alot better.
your post is fine, not being a grammar nazi, just trying to help. - antdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I prefer this URL: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/03/26/business/yourmoney/26boss.html?ex=1301029200&en=1b22b3305effe44e&ei=5090&partner=rssuserland&emc=rss ;) I used http://nytimes.blogspace.com/genlink ...
- lament, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If only Craigslist was redesigned and looked like this..
http://craigslist.thebignoob.com/ - kritic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3That was terribly written and laid out. Could have done so much more with the source material. Dugg for just that.
- deadlift, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Craigslist might be on top of the world because of content, but atleast they can capitalize the first letter in the words on their site, right?
I think they need to hire a proofreader, much less a CEO. - lokai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The article appears to be a direct transcription from an interview; it was not rewritten. Not all of us are able to speak on the fly nearly as well as we can write. Perhaps you did not notice the "As told to Amy Zipkin" at the end of the article.
- ferrell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Jim Buckmaster. I knew this guy when he worked as the webmaster at Quantum Corp. Total creep with ZERO personality. Biggest snob I ever met. I hope he's changed his tune for the sake of Craigslist.
- 5blocksfree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Something about CraigsList...I'd never looked at it, because when I first heard about it, it sounded like one of those "web things" that you had to be doing if you were "web hip" and "web uber cool". In other words, a fad - much like MySpace is now.
Recently, however, I saw a broadcast news story about the company, the owner behind it, his motivation, the offices they have, etc. Assuming the journalism was accurate (a tough road to travel these days) my opinion has changed quite dramatically. What's interesting is that the topic of this article is very much in line with what I heard in the aforementioned story.
Like it or hate it, the owner had a good idea, and he has (thus far) executed it very well. Hopefully his choices for people in key positions won't leave anyone with any surprises. - BigJuiceMan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2anyone know how CraigsList makes money?
- webdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Seems like he is a hippie too...good fit for craigslist though :)
- mikedpirone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This was on Dateline or some show like that over a month ago.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1they make money by charging fees for posting in certain areas. I believe SanFran is one of them. If they charged everywhere, they'd be bazillionaires.
- richardiscool, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Mine aren't either - it looks like adblock is blocking them.
- REpler, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Maybe that's why the website is ugly as *****.
- pussfeller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Craiglist only charges AFAIK for real estate listings in certain areas like NYC and SF. Supposedly to deter apartment brokers from spamming the list. Which I can see.
I think the site itself is pretty much unusable via the way its currently set up, but evidently millions of people would disagree! - pihlopase, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That story was horribly written. When I got to the end of the page I was looking for a link to page 2 of the story. Very anticlimatic
- gekkokid, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4whats so interesting about a login screen?
- norbiu, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2What does this have to do with the story?
- alexandreracine, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5You need an account to read the article. So get bugmenot! :)
- deadlift, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Craiglist has a horrible design.
- cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -14/+3*Blink*
Why are my voting buttons (thumbs up/down) not on this page but on any other?

Strange! - PantherX, on 10/12/2007, -15/+3What a crappy story.
Here's my tale... I'll tell it to you... first this happened, then the other, and then... THE END.
Digg anyway, because it's interesting.
