- disabled4diggin, on 10/10/2007, -5/+123So this article hits the front page with such breaking, and detailed information like "NO word from staff" and "stop speculating"???
No news is not news. - Dhalgren, on 10/10/2007, -1/+100You can't stop the signal!
- shadowhander, on 10/10/2007, -3/+80Give it a day or two more. Even if it is gone for good, another will take its place. You can't kill a monster with this many heads
- DrunkenSavior, on 10/10/2007, -1/+70(Collective sigh of relief)
- timjbart, on 10/10/2007, -6/+73As much as I want to believe it, IRC is hardly a indisputable news source
- combatchuck, on 10/10/2007, -1/+65Why not? It screws up everything else...
- Melenor, on 10/10/2007, -2/+47O ye of little faith....
- m3mn0n, on 10/10/2007, -10/+52This is what happens when people take rumours/speculation too seriously.
Anyway, I'm glad it was just hardware issues. - Xondar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+39I thought so. The CRIA really is a joke here in Canada. They already lost a court ruling that says that file sharing is legal here in Canada, and they've not been able to force any ISPs to give up any logs of customer bandwidth usage.
I do urge all Canadians to write letters to the Prime Minister and your MP asking them to end the influence of the CRIA in government and any aspect of Canadian public life. Point out the many bad things done by their parent organization: the RIAA.
The postal code the parliament is K1A 0A6. You can address anything to "House of Commons, Ottawa, Ontario" or to a specific person like "Prime Minister of Canada, Ottawa, Ontario." Remember that any mail going to parliament is free. No stamp or anything required. - AndrewJC, on 10/10/2007, -0/+37Next time, try double blackslashes. Backslashes are generally considered to be escape characters so it may have simply taken your input literally and hidden the backslashes. To properly escape a true backslash, type two of them. Like this: C:\Documents and Settings\username\application data\utorrent
- Bense, on 10/10/2007, -8/+44DAMN! I just removed all my demonoid torrents from utorrent!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+34Dude, this comment system sucks.

- JerichoKS, on 10/10/2007, -1/+22Figures the one site I typically use goes offline.
- ZenFountain, on 10/10/2007, -2/+23Wait...torrentfreak printing unfounded rumors? Not possible!
- AdHaR, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21What?...The commenting system now screws up your slashes too?
- AdHaR, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20Escape characters in a commenting system on a website? Truly madness...
- mrgreen4242, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19"Remember that any mail going to parliament is free. No stamp or anything required."
That's the best law/policy I've ever heard. In the States we have to pat for postage to our Reps, bu they can send stuff back for free. - H0ns, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18Long live Demonoid!
- StormTroopr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18Must resist..... MADNESS? THIS IS SPARTA!!!! .......god damn it.
- jrizzo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20Holy *****...a reference to something OTHER than Family Guy or Futurama.
- SkynetProject, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19I think i speak for everyone when i say "ARRRRRRRR!"
- aqzman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+18They'll be back, theres no doubt about that.
- SteelFrog, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16Fubar: the allegations made on that page have not been confirmed. We will give you more information as it becomes available. Stop speculating and claiming alleged happenings as fact.
Borat: we DO NOT know what actually happened. the CRIA is just a SPECULATION. the site is TEMPORAROLY OFFLINE
Fubar: Yes the tracker is down, they are going through heavy maintenance, please wait patiently for it to come back up.
seanap: Jumba; that torrent freak article is completely false
seanap: there is NO evidence
seanap: and NO word from site staff, and i'm in contact with the TF dude right now
lacko: we're still waiting for the name of a CRIA rep for confirmation. - ChuyMatt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15It is Digg, you think that Firefly references (oh, i KNOW it was from the movie) are TOO geeky for this place?
- jsd8cc, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16And TorrentFreak is? I'm going to be skeptical of TF articles from now on...the guy sounds pretty juvenile and just a downright bad "journalist".

[05:27] *seanap* [09/25/07 - 18:05.28] (seanap) so i don't think you should be reporting unconfirmed things, the IRC is going insane.. almost double the amount of users in a day
[05:27] *seanap* [09/25/07 - 18:05.32] (ernesto) that was exactly how it happened last time
[05:27] *seanap* [09/25/07 - 18:06.04] (ernesto) nu.nl is the biggest news source in NL
[05:27] *seanap* [09/25/07 - 18:06.12] (ernesto) they might have inside info
[05:27] *seanap* [09/25/07 - 18:06.21] (seanap) form who?! we are the inside
[05:27] *seanap* [09/25/07 - 18:06.22] (ernesto) from the isp or the CRIA
[05:27] *seanap* [09/25/07 - 18:06.41] (ernesto) the ISP probably firewalled the servers
[05:27] *seanap* [09/25/07 - 18:06.52] (ernesto) after some seriuos legal threats
[05:27] *seanap* [09/25/07 - 18:07.04] (ernesto) it's not unlikely
[05:27] *seanap* [09/25/07 - 18:07.16] (seanap) no its not, but it's not.. confirmed
...
[05:27] *seanap* [09/25/07 - 18:12.29] (seanap) well, the point i'm trying to make is that Demonoid can't confirm this info... and that article has 1150+ diggs iirc and it's abesolutely overwhelming the staff with floods of people thinking the site was taken down, when we're not sure if it is.. and it puts us as staff in a bad place

"It's not unlikely" ? This is what our generation bases legitimate news on? - themastersb, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14TorrentFreak just made up some random story to get more hits, because that's the type of thing they do.
- epohs, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12This really doesn't clear up a thing.
- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Did you torrent Serenity?
- kodek, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Does that mean I can put tabs and newlines with them? nNewline tTab Testing 'SingleQuote "Double Quotes
Apparently not. :D - Protoss, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8The digg comment system has never liked slashes.
- bennyboy371, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Personally I torrent everything BUT Firefly and Serenity. Worth every penny, captain tightpants.
- unoriginal, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Even if the tracker went down permanently you should still be able to find seeds using DHT. There was no reason to pull them yet.
- xkorbin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8The revolution will not be televised.
- shinynew, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Who is up for creating a decentralized P2P network with anonymous cabibilties called 'the signal'.?
- twofivethreetwo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Correct. In uTorrent the icon will show red and show the tracker is offline, but it will still download and seed just fine.
- binarybandit92, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7heh, don't listen to anything ernesto says, he admitted his article was unfounded, and we banned him from the chan ages ago
he's done this to us before >. - Zephkiel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7uTorrent only works natively for Windows, IIRC.
- realyst, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7The CRIA has no rights to do anything like this unless the host itself did so voluntarily. If that is the case: change hosts and move on.
Equally, we have no overly general "facilitate the breaching of copyright" clause, thankfully, despite the attempts of certain bought-and-paid-for-and-caught politicians.
Equally, unless you're in Quebec, your IP records are fairly safe. Only a couple of Telcos said they would volunteer client-2-ip information and I think they were both in Quebec.
I ain't worried. Not yet anyways. Though I remain vigilant. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7I'll wait a while before believing anything.
- NiNiCraftOne, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Current news has it that the Director General of Copyright Policy who works at Heritage Canada -- A woman named Patricia Neri -- has just been sacked due to conflict of interest reasons because she has been found out having a 'relationship' with some dude who is a lobbyist for the Movie Industry. She actually gave testimony to the Senate regarding the recent passage of Bill C-59 (the new anti-camming law) while he was standing in the room.
Anyway, if you are writing to the bigwigs in Ottawa you might want to point out that having lobbyists sleeping with policy-makers in the government department currently at work on new copyright laws is a bit unseemly.
search Google News for 'Patricia Neri' for confirmation on this new news story.
Anyway, it just goes to show what lengths the music and movie industry will go to gain influence over the coming changes to Canada's Copyright Laws and take away all our Fair Use privileges and so on. - Gwydion, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Yeah, one of the Telco's is Videotron, the company I'm with. They suck.
- thinman1189, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7I don't know who is right but TorrentFreak never said it was the CRIA just that it could have been and some news agency/site was reporting so.
Also, Is it just me or is something ***** up with TorrentFreak? I can't see ***** unless I highlight. - greensauce, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6TPB sucks compared to demonoid, i am all for their movement and the popularity they have given the pirating community but demonoid was really probably the best tracker after the REAL suprnova went down. Lets hope they come out of it.
- KUKBAHLAM, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Wait, wait, wait...... you have politicians in Canada that are responsive to their constituents? How do we get some of those in the US? Or are you just teasing us?
- mavedatthews85, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Well, that certainly explains why I wasn't able to get to it yesterday - ha!
Hooray for jumping to conclusions! - shulkman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Even if it had been a full take down, keep your torrents up for at least a week, if not two... The "good" sites will just wind up relaunching in another country soon after a takedown. :)
