- moisie, on 10/12/2007, -6/+102What a shocker, a Norwegian website is in their own language.
- Strangers, on 10/12/2007, -2/+66The irony of your nickname being that of a Norse god, and then giving out about the Norse on the site is delicious.
- Llan, on 10/12/2007, -5/+68The site is in norwegian. Which could be concluded from the posting "A Norwegian newspaper...".
And would it be possible to allow other countries to have their own language without them being insulted? There are other countries than the USA in the world... - assadF, on 10/12/2007, -2/+55Translation, somewhat truncated:
1: Moose in Telemark, Norway
2: Someone doesn't like Eddie, Sheffield, England
3: The infamous Amityville-house where many horrible murders were committed,
Rhode Island, USA
4: British humour, Isle of Wight, South England
5: Pink bunny somewhere in Italy near the border with Italy. The _real_ nature
of the structure is not known.
6: Someone claims to have found Jesus in South America.
7: Strange triangular and circular shapes in the Nevada desert.
8: Michael Jackson's home, Neverland, in outside L.A. near Santa Barbara.
9: A kind of horse carved out of the mountain side, on the Mexican side of the
US-Mexico border.
10: Another strange shape in some desert in the US
11: In a field somewhere in the US, you'll find the letters LUECKE. What does
it mean and who made it?
12: Traffic accident outside Chicago.
13: The letter 'USA' written in a field somewhere in, you guessed it, the US.
14: Labyrinth... or something else? It looks like a spiderweb it a green field.
Outside Chicago.
15: Aircraft graveyard in Arizona. Hundreds of planes are parked over a great
area far outside the picture.
16: Fantastically detailed picture from somewhere in the Sahara. The picture
is taken from a plane and the detail is such that one can spot individual
people.
17: Air traffic. By downloading an extra module for Google Earth, one can view
the air traffic around several airports around the world. One can see the
flight routes, which are continuously updated.
18: A star shaped shape, probably a fort, on the north bank of the Amazon, not
far from the delta.
19: Advert for the warehouse Target on a building outside the airport in
Chicago. It is popular among American companies to paint adverts on the roof
of their buildings near airports.
20: A man-shape on the east coast of Australia.
21: Spectacular photo of an active volcano.
22: Last but not least. The person contributing this picture claims the white
spot is his caravan. She only visits this location a couple of days every year
and always parks here caravan in that spot. Some unspecified location in
Norway. - aplusplus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+44I like how whenver there is a face-like image: its Jesus.
- Simen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26Firstly, I'd have to say, "lordthor", that that's a pretty narrow-minded comment.
Secondly here's a quick explanation of the less obvious findings:
1) a MOOSE (...allegedly)
5) a RABBIT
9) a HORSE
12) a TRAFFIC ACCIDENT
14) (even though it's spelled wrong) a LABYRINTH
16) a HIGHLY DETAILED PICTURE (from somewhere in Sahara)
17) a SAMPLE OF AN AIR-TRAFFIC add-on for the service
18) a FORTIFICATION (on the northern bank of the Amazon, near the delta)
19) the "TARGET" SHOPPING MALL (hence the...yeah, you get it)
20) a MAN (somewhat out of proportion)
22) the submitter of this photo claim the white spot in this one is HIS AUNTS RV. The odd thing is that she only visits a couple of days a year, and always parks there.(Why this is of any interest to anyone else than the submitter - or possibly his aunt - escapes me)
There you have it. - Kotjze, on 10/12/2007, -4/+25It does tell you what the image is about, to the right of the image, but obviously it's in Norwegian.
- Lorian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17http://maps.google.com/?ll=32.676154,-117.157696&t=k
- ZombieJesus3000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Awesome, esspecially that one with the facelike image. They should've included this Swastica looking building I came across a few years ago at:
lat= 32.6762596172, lon=-117.157839803 - Kamatz, on 10/12/2007, -20/+35What's the difference? Both are fictional characters. ;)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15@aplusplus
To me it looks more like Gandalf. - Molnies, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13It's suppose to look like a moose (or so the text on the upper right states)
- Lorian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Oh yeah! I did not see that...
In case it isn't clear: http://img485.imageshack.us/img485/8015/moose1ff.jpg - Lumbage, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15uhhh.....what is the significance of the first one?
- salmonfish, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Can someone translate? Especially the non-obvious ones?
And what's up with that super-close one of the indian building things? Can Google earth really go that low? - Kotjze, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7If you mean http://www.vg.no/bilder/bildarkiv/1149341553.69561.jpg , InterTran gives a somewhat usable translation:
Fantastic detail grabbed somewhere in the Sahara desert. Picture is a flyfoto(?), grabbed in such extreme detail that you are able see human beings on the bare ground. - zivarik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7a goat? look at what people can make: a happy face and a heart in a grassland...
http://maps.google.com/?ll=34.280796,-118.66598&spn=0.003608,0.00361&t=k&om=1 - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8It looks like Manbearpig.
- assadF, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Update with extremely important detail:
22: It is his aunt's camping-trailer, as galemathias correctly translates in a comment below. - x2arden, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Irrigation circles. Have you never been to the American West? They are everywhere.
Pump is in the middle. Pipe is carried 15-20 feet above the ground on wheels. The pipe has smaller pipes that hang down and spray the water. The water powers the wheels as the whole thing pivots in a circle. Obviously, the spray nozzels toward the outside of the circle have to spray more water since it's more area to cover. - ideefix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5the volcano image is very nice
- oleeid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4WOW! I didnt expect this to come on the front page. All norwegians, add me as a friend. Im norwegian to^^
- dynein, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4then again:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12186858/from/RS.5/
http://www.usatoday.com/life/people/2006-04-05-longoria-maxim_x.htm
Both news sites report that it's real. the kml file for google earth is an overlay, yes, because the map hasnt been updated in years. but if you fly over by plane, the magazine cover is there.
now, back to that bridge... - compwizz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I just found this very strange place in Africa while searching on Google Earth. There are a whole bunch of very large green circles in the middle of the desert. It's quite strange. This is not PhotoShoped, go to those coordinates and see for yourself!
Here is a link to the screen shot: http://putfile.com/pic.php?pic=6/15415414091.png&s=f5
Does anyone know what those are? - x2arden, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Fly over any state like Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, you'll see them.
- rideagain, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I would guess that these are crops. When you have a water sprinkler in the middle, you'll have vegetation in a circular shape (because that's where the water will go). And if you do that somewhere where the weather is normally quite bad (e.g. an African desert), you'll see very distinct green disks on a desert background.
- spenceman01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3There's a nice Mickey Mouse head made out of trees just northwest of Walt Disney World near Orlando, FL.

Holy *****, how big is that thing? - Lorian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Some areas in nowhere are really good detail, only small squares though
- PoorYorick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3You can't see anything in my neighborhood...I live too close to a submarine base.
Ooops...I've already said too much. I have to go... - compwizz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4That's what I figured they were, just wasn't sure. I have never left the east coast of the US, so I have never seen anything like those before.
What got me was the sheer size of them, it would take quite a pump to put water that far out, look how they compare to the roads and the airport. If you scroll to the left in Google Earth there are some cool looking hexagon shapes too, just very cool place to look at. - Simen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It doesn't. Sorry.
- Mikekuul, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2At first I thought it was supposed to be a sitting scottie dog :D
- Hades32, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1As I don't speak Norwegian: Does the page provide somewhere the coordinates of these places?
- galemathias, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Some translations:
1. ELG: En leser sendte inn ...
Moose (Elk). A reader sent us this image of an elk, probably formed after wood-cutting. Picture form the commune of Tinn in municipality of Telemark (Norway).
5 KANIN: En rosa kanin...
"A pink rabbit" can be seen from the air over a small place in Italy, near the border to France. The nature of this gigantic structure is unknown.
22. CAMPINGVOGN: ...
Last, but not least: A reader let us know that the white spot is his aunts camping-trailer. She only visits a few days each year, but she always parks the trailer in the same spot. - Bobski, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you bothered to zoom out you would have seen that it is near Las Cruces New Mexico, not part of what is considered "The South."
But, based on your remarks under other topics, I'm guessing you wouldn't know that because you're some greasy, goat ***** towlhead. - dreadsword, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Somebody with some free time want to geotag and map these images out?
http://www.blockrocker.com/service_bookmarklet.php
Tag them something consistent so the whole set can be looked up... - WyllyWylly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Some of these seem to have rather dubious origins. Shame they couldn't also provide the Google Earth coordinates or placemark links so others could find it themselves. Nonetheless, there are some gems in there too... to digg or not to digg?
Dugg. - toxicredm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@assadF,
Amityville is in New York (Long Island), not RI.
Edit: Not your fault, I went back and checked, that's what the site says. - Bloekie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So that's where Saddam keeps his WMD's. Good job agent Compwizz!
- deanau, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Found this whille flying over tasmania. First digger to find it in google earth wins a prize.

- WZot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Or you can click on Neste (Next) and Forrige (Previous).:)
- TTSkipper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Being a Rhode Islander living who is currently living on Long Island which is located in NY and is also home to Amityville, NY home of the famous Horror House, I think it is very funny when the two are confused.
- drayzel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Scratch my previous link... that's an image of the Al Jawf air base in Saudi Arabia... the original Google Earth pic is of Al Jawf, Libya.
Wiki says that Al Jawf Libya is "... just to the west of the Kufra oasis. It is one of the most heavily irrigated oases in the Sahara."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Jawf,_Libya
Brittanica states "There are extensive date groves, and an underground reservoir provides irrigation"
