Because the geek can do all sort of things on a computer, but when he has to cook, he is afraid.
Google is the evolution for the geek to survive in our cruel world, a world that is not totally virtual. - TheThirdWheel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Surprising amount of beef recipes in Indian cuisine.
- theguy10, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6sure do cook...opening the mountain dew and cheetos must count for something
- bigpeeler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Oh Google, you so cray-zee. Inch by inch, you are taking over my life.
GoogleWear - Enter "shirt" and "pants" and VOILA! Today's outfit.
_____
Quick edit: Just for grins I entered "chicken" & "American" and found http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/recipe_views/views/108172?mbid=gbase
Um, Google...you rock. Me hungry now. - davidkain, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Absolutely! And if you want something heated up, just turn off those fans and heatsinks.
- zirtbow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4This should be great for someone like me where I always say "If it can't be made in the microwave or on the grill... then it can't be made." Actually I try but generally that stuff turns out bad. These google results look good but I sometimes liked to use whatever I find recipecenter.com ..
- talkmicro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Its cool but the same theory works if you use the main search engine, ive been doing it for ages! try just throwing in a few ingredients :) Dugg
- Tomato, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Is it just me or do all the recipes come from one place: Epicurious?
If that's the case, I'm really disappointed. You can go to Epicurious directly and do a much better, broader, narrower search than this. It's gotta be missing out on a lot, like LAMB that somebody mentioned.
Sorry, no digg... - dbr_onix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3No human in ingredients, no dig- Err, wait should I say that?
- Ben - MikeCampo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You are such a fag with your stupid rating system...shove it up your hot karl ass!
- dilbert, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Does somebody still wonder why Pork and Jewish cuisine doesn't give any results? :)
Beef and Vegetarian cuisine does give a result, by the way. - brockpetrie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2of course! my lvl 13 mage recovers 50 hp when i cast cooking, even though it drains my mana by 8 mp.
- acarneiro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No Portuguese cuisine?
Shame.... :) - tresser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2how is this that different than just searching the Epicurious.com site? If the search results yielded more than one sites worth of data, i could see that as being something. it's just as easy to punch in a main ingredient into the FF multi-search bar and tab each sites results.
- phsv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1reminds me of a Mitch Hedberg joke.
- Ryetronics, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What exactly does the "I'm Feeling Lucky" button accomplish?
- ArmchairAthlete, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1:raises hand: I do.
- habilus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1bacalhau assado portuguesa >> sinto-me com sorte >> :-D
http://www.expo-lusa.net/gastronomia/HTML/receita.php3?titulo=Bacalhau%20Assado%20no%20Forno&categoria=Peixes - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Perhaps they were already looking into this and decided to bring you on board? Three weeks seems like a short time before doing this even if it is a beta and probably involved a bit of work and negotiations with epicurious.com
- lbtori, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1go buy cream, cheese and bacon and make carbonara (and throw the oranges away possibly)
- drunkenoaf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have eggs, pasta, bread and some slightly out of date oranges. What can you make for me google?
- jrbrewin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1you can put more than one ingredient in to the search, although searching for lamb, egg, and lettuce didn't return much. :-D
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2read my reply below...they are THIEVES....i developed an ingredient based search engine for recipes with a fellow student... and we were thinking of doing this for google possibly for google...
we suggested developing this with them... but instead.. they steal it and develop it themselves... students..innovators...be warned...
oh and dont use gmail...if u have "innovative/new" content which could be advantage to them!!! - ArmchairAthlete, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very nice, geeks don't need a cookbook =P. I like to cook and I'll use this. Also forwarded it along to a girl I know who loves to cook.
Hopefully they add recipes from other sites soon. - ext237, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Finally! A way to find Gluten Free Oatmeal cookies!!!
http://base.google.com/base/search?q=gluten+free+oatmeal+cookies&btnG=Search+Base - portos12, on 05/26/2008, -0/+1This is really intresting. I will try to add on the list:
http://www.recipesblog.net/ - ArmchairAthlete, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They're probably just starting it up. Post some of those other sites please.
- JustJon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm Feeling Lucky just sends you to the first search result
- ElectricGrandpa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The only site that's submiteed recipes to google so far is epicurious... Once more sites submit recipes, there will be more...
- dimatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i agree with you for once mike!
- MontyZooma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Step 1: Google introduces recipe searches
Step 2: Google introduces automatic cooking machines, ala The Jetsons
Step 3: We all get bitchin' flying cars.
Flying cars rock, Dugg - boycy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Most excellent!
Many is the day when I think "I want to cook something good, interesting and new" and end up thinking "Damn, I can't think of anything".
Google: "We're not worthy, we're not worthy!" - toxicredm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You mentioned the fact that there is no "I'm Feeling Lucky" button. I'm surprised they didn't put an "I'm Feeling Hungry" button instead.
- scstraus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What I want is something where I plug in the 5 things in my refrigerator and it tells me what I can make with them. Yogurt chicken coke casserole anyone?
- baidez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Humm... ese gran bacalao :-) ¡Qué bueno!
- anti-net, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Hmm..thats perfect finding, seeing as its lunch time right now! :D
- WebQueen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like the Google-hack version of this that has been around for a while.
http://www.researchbuzz.org/tools/cookin-with-google.shtml - shmatt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2heh heh
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3geeks cook?
- SouthernDigger, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Seems like this would only work if you had a huge abundance of one ingredient. Thats the only way you will go out and buy the other additives. For example, search potatos, it comes up with potato, cucumber and fresh dill salad. I said I had potatos.... not cucumbers and fresh dill! damn, now i have to go shopping.
- Fjord, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1How fiendishly clever of Google. First to steal a poor student's obviously unique idea and then utilize it on a site where you can also search for Clinical Trials, Tickets, Vehicles, Wine, etc.
You are the reason why companies have policies to keep the general public from soliciting ideas. Grow up. - p9s50W5k4GUD2c6, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Interesting - never saw this b4. The base beta looks like a promising new direction for google content.
http://base.google.com/base - SG111, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I thought I was the one who had this idea a few years ago! ( But I never got around to developing it. Instead, I just made something similar to what was already out there and created the Dinner Genie!) http://sabatos.net/dinnergenie.html
- lilazndrumrboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1well......i just found out that a lot of the stuff i cook (chinese cuisine) has recipies......with exact measurments.......that mean nothing to me........that's like the exact opposite of chinese cuisine.........i either feel disgraced or cheated.........well, gonna go make more "fried eggs with soy sauce"........*shakes head*.........
- markowe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I prefer the expression "fridge-Googling"! http://fridge-googling.blogspot.com
More idiomatic, a bit more guesswork to figure out what it is! - terinjokes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Yep, its called GoogleStore
http://www.googlestore.com/
I'm going to buy this http://www.googlestore.com/product.asp?catid=4&code=GO0103 - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1WARNING WARNING!!!! GOOGLE ARE THIEVES!!! DAMN THIEVES!!!
I have been in contact with google about this idea for the last 3 weeks.
I was the one who developed an ingredient based search system (together with another developer and forefront designer). also the part of submitting recipes...pretty much everything STOLEN...too many coincidences.
oh here's a warning...if u have any great ideas...dont correspond via gmail...they are bound to be fished (read: stolen)
at least they did a shoddy job at the interface...
I've always trusted and liked google for its great and innovative services...but this vile action has put them in my "black book" of companies. How dare they steal from honest innovative students!! dont they make enough money yet? - silverhack, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2This is the worst recipes finder I've ever seen. There's a dozen other website out there that a MUCH better than this lame attempt
- FlatLine, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Does anyone know how extensive their data bank is for recipes, b/c im finding that the service is not that deep.
3 outta 4 hot karls for this one
