- dema, on 07/30/2008, -6/+59The fact that she refers to herself as "The next Ann Coulter" pretty much indicates that she needs to be beaten to death before she goes any further with this...
- Slashriffs, on 07/30/2008, -4/+34Even with this article you all have no idea how crazy RachelFaith truly is.
I was one of the staff members that jumped ship after I heard about registering as a non-profit organization.
People need to distance themselves from Vortex as fast as they can.
Long Live STC - terminal157, on 07/31/2008, -1/+23Please elaborate. I want to know how crazy she truly is.
- terminal157, on 07/31/2008, -2/+19Is that really necessary? It's not like she defrauded people or killed a puppy, let's have some perspective here.
- jjalsop, on 08/01/2008, -6/+23Buried as inaccurate.
There are no women on the internet. - en3r0, on 07/31/2008, -3/+19i wanna know if shes hot.
- hakz, on 07/30/2008, -3/+13Wow, she's a nutjob
- Stalks, on 08/01/2008, -2/+12Loads of torrent sites do this. For some people its the only way they can download on a ratio based system.
- algaeturd, on 08/01/2008, -1/+10yeah, that's a little over the top, dude. Maybe you could just digg the article up so everyone will see it and know what's going on.
- zeabu, on 07/30/2008, -2/+9That reference kills it, true..
But on the other side, even a fool sometimes speaks truth. I think downloading for personal and non-profit use, should indeed be legal. The future will tell us which of two strategies work best, TPB or VN, if not both. - gasoline, on 08/01/2008, -1/+7Not to mention those (like you) who click on "Show" if there are any replies.
- Laiden, on 08/01/2008, -1/+6We can't prove she DIDN'T.
- RAGEdemon, on 08/01/2008, -0/+5You would if you ever saw a ninja pirate.
- GregofJersey, on 07/30/2008, -4/+9Mmm, greed at its best:
"While it’s not compulsory for users to pay to use Vortex Network, there is a page where users can pay cash to fix their share ratio, enabling them to opt-out of seeding and get ‘customer’ or ‘patron’ status."
Way to make money off of pirating! - kazamx, on 08/01/2008, -0/+5Guys
Many of you seem to be missing the key point. She has threatened some other sites who accept donations and don't pay tax. When she set up this new sites Admins from other sites showed her how to move the money around so you don't need to pay tax, she is now threatening to report them to the police unless they join her crusade.
If this crazy one gets her way, we could see a lot of sites get taken down Al Capone style. They never caught Al for being a gangster, they got him because he didn't pay his tax. - Alcorr, on 08/01/2008, -2/+7Pay money to fix your ratio so you don't have to seed? What *****. So the rich get to opt out of seeding torrents at the expense of everybody else.
If I wanted to pay for my content I wouldn't be using bittorrent in the FIRST place. - ronaldmonster, on 08/01/2008, -1/+5That is one crazy bitch!
- DisturbedOne, on 08/01/2008, -0/+4If he ever saw a ninja pirate... it would be the last thing he ever saw.
- ThirdPrize, on 08/01/2008, -3/+7So, a criminal is trying to screw some other criminals for some more money and they don't like it. And she wants to take over the world. Whoop de f'in do!
- zeabu, on 07/31/2008, -3/+5DeathfireD: She could claim to be a European site, where you are perfectly legel allowed to have 1 private copy. Or as in Spain, you are allowed to do non-profit personal piracy.
You may download a song for yourself, without owning the original disc, but you are still not allowed to do the uploading, but since that is how p2p works... - aladrin, on 08/01/2008, -2/+4I'm of 2 minds about it... On one hand, it helps keep leechers from bogging down the network. On the other hand, it -lets- rich leechers just leech. (Which helps pay for the server/tracker.)
In the end, I think it balances out about right. - inactive, on 08/01/2008, -0/+2the problem is that if you get "anything of value" in exchange for warez you go into a new class of the copyright statute. By selling access like this it becomes a larger target, but also one the law deems to be "more criminal" than one who does it free. Even enforcing ratios can bring this about, during 'operation fastlink' they used getting access to extra sites by couriers as the enhancement.
This is likely to paint a big fat bullseye for not just the *AA groups but also the DOJ since they can do much more that way. And the "ship jumping" is just icing on the cake for the DOJ since they can try to use that as leverage to arrest everyone and anyone who might help testify against those in charge.
I would have nothing to do with this site, and if I did work there I would do everything to clean up any traces that point to me before its too late, then quietly disappear.
With that said I do not believe trackers should be charged under the copyright act since they do not provide the actual content, they work more like a search engine to find the content. I also realize that the government does not agree with me, and know that even when you are right and never committed a crime that does not stop an indictment. - Clade, on 08/01/2008, -2/+4I'm finding it difficult to drum up a whole lot of sympathy for either side of this "discussion".
- jordanlund, on 08/01/2008, -0/+1"She also hopes that by combining the sites - hopefully hundreds - the whole operation will become more secure and “profitable”. "
Hasn't she seen the new Batman movie yet?
Someone in an organization commits a felony then the whole organization can be charged under RICO. DUH! Combining sites makes the whole operation MORE vulnerable, not less. - Maevirko69, on 08/01/2008, -0/+1It started out basically as a replacement for Brokenstones, a Mac torrent tracker. It's all mac apps and games.
- Genma, on 08/01/2008, -0/+199% of the community can only upload at around 5% of their download speed. that means most users pull in data 20x faster than they can give it back. this of course creates an opportunity that some would like to take advantage of. some say download less, some say "donate" and download as much as you want.
is that wrong? imo IF there was a subscription status just to get on the tracker, or give access to any content different from normal seeders then yes. a fee for no ratio penalties and other "perks" is obviously up for debate since *everyone* does it and sites cost money to run. the only difference in this case is that she went and registered the network as a non-profit-profit corp.
kind of stupid to put the cash on paper since it's just giving the mafiaa more "evidence". it's not so much the money making part that pisses people off, doing it this way could affect the entire community. which sounds like what she really wants I guess, even though it's doomed to fail. - kazamx, on 08/01/2008, -1/+2She wants to be the next Ann Coulter. Here she is posting on the Jonh McCunts website
http://johnmccainforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t= ... - puter, on 08/01/2008, -0/+1It pays the cost of running the site.
If you would prefer to prevent that YOU are welcomed to pay for the cost of running her site...I am sure she would be willing to withdraw the request for donations...but you still won't be allowed to leach of course, because you feel that is wrong...who cares if you invested in the whole thing - you get no benefits for that. - Glitchwerks, on 08/01/2008, -0/+1A lot of sites do it, but it's one of the arguments that the authorities used with OiNK, so I'd imagine most people would want to distance themselves from any "pay for bandwidth" models.
- Jerky1312, on 08/01/2008, -0/+1Why are you annoyed that someone else is paying for the content? Them paying indirectly helps fund the site you are using as well.
- JonForTheWin, on 08/02/2008, -0/+1Yeah, she's ***** insane. $5 on if you sat down with her and spoke to her, you'd find her attitudes around the paragraphs where you find "elitist" and "ego" relate to her own personal petty *****.
- Glitchwerks, on 08/01/2008, -0/+0Can you describe the content of the site? I've never heard of it before. I went to the login page, but sign ups aren't open.
- Maevirko69, on 08/01/2008, -1/+1Vortex started out pretty awesome, but the ***** has seriously hit the fan fast...
- Totz83, on 08/01/2008, -3/+2Never heard of that tracker before, but who gives a ***** if she's trying some new approaches? If people want out they can easily leave
- RAGEdemon, on 08/01/2008, -4/+3umm... SHE?!
- Laiden, on 08/01/2008, -3/+1I'd hit it.
- popstick, on 08/01/2008, -4/+2meep meep meep meep meep meep meep meep meep
- inactive, on 08/01/2008, -6/+2so what happened to brokenstones? ahh serves them right for not letting me be a member
- Mahoney07, on 08/01/2008, -9/+4They are all pirates. I don't care if they get screwed.
- wolferz, on 08/01/2008, -7/+1heh... some one makes a stand for what she believes in and all the cowards put as much distance between them and her as possible.
Sounds like any other day to me...
But then.... that's the difference between wolves and sheep. Wolves aren't afraid to fight back while sheep will run away at the first sign of danger... right off the edge of a cliff. - DeathfireD, on 07/31/2008, -8/+1It still doesn't change the fact that the files you download might be copyrighted or have a specific license you have to obied by, even if it's for personal or non-profit use. So to say her way is completely legal because shes backed by a non-profit is a bit far fetched. I can't see this argument holding up in court when you're boasting a community of over 250,000 MP3 and movie downloading people lol. The only way I could see her having any chance of winning any law dispute is if she was backed by Scientology, and if that was the case people should be even more scared to use her site or any sites linked to hers.
- gasoline, on 08/01/2008, -17/+5No matter how stupid my comment on this topic would be, at least four people would still see it before getting buried.
