- AcePup, on 01/03/2008, -2/+14Just a NOTE: The subject should be Recording Industry not RIAA, but since Digg has a certain character limit amount I used RIAA.
- Maloney, on 01/03/2008, -1/+11yeah ***** the RIAA
- inactive, on 01/03/2008, -0/+6Boycott! Freedom rules!
- HCviolence, on 01/03/2008, -1/+6The recording industry will never come to terms with reality because they're painfully disconnected with the real world. So the DRM people whisper in their ears about the pirate boogeyman and sell them snakeoil software. The recording industry will stupidly use their financial influence to circumvent the law, destroy our freedoms, and muffle out the protests of people who insist that it is in fact possible to make money off the internet.
- Jerky1312, on 01/03/2008, -0/+4Not much of a conspiracy. The original developer gave the domain over to someone he thought he could trust, but that guy, who probably had no real bond to the program, gave up the site's control to this organization so that he could escape with the minimum of charges brought against him. That's all there is to the this story. Reports about the site being hacked and conspiracies are all just sensationalist reporting.
It sucks that this happened, but no need to sweeten the story or make it looks worse than it is. It's a sleazy move by the company, but that is how they make their money. The folks at Shareaza will have a tough time of getting the domain back, so they need to create a new domain (www.therealshareaza.net) and go about informing people that the other site isn't the real thing. That's all there is to this story. - commentbot, on 01/03/2008, -0/+3Please report this shareaza.com hijacked web site to remove it from Google's index: http://www.google.com/contact/spamreport.html
- vonskippy, on 01/03/2008, -0/+3Good thing the French Courts read TorrentFreak and Digg.
- mschoolov, on 01/03/2008, -0/+3That implies that Shareaza is part of the conspiracy
- DestroyFascism, on 01/03/2008, -0/+3Curiosity killed this cat...I feel dirty...
- newl, on 01/03/2008, -0/+3So MediaLab are distributing binaries..are they also providing the source code? I just looked at the .com site but am unable to locate the source code. I have sent an email requesting that they provide the source as I am interested to know what changes that they have made and as such are required to provide upon request per the GPL.
- DestroyFascism, on 01/03/2008, -1/+4If they are using the images of "shareaza" without the communities consent regardless of domain name rights its a breach of copyright is it not? Also if the program is "skinned" like shareaza its the same thing...! Pot calling kettle black?
- mtekk, on 01/03/2008, -0/+2They are using copyrighted images without license, looks prime for a DMCA take down notice.
- Terr01, on 01/03/2008, -1/+3Yo. To the extent of distributing a pre-customized version with the NSIS installer to other folks for a purely-internal campus net.
- tdous, on 01/03/2008, -1/+2I agree. And the angry masses who complain that a stale, archaic industry can't hope to keep pace with the march of internet progress are the often the same people merrily downloading songs illegally instead of purchasing them online through the legitimate online sources that do exist. We may hate DRM (I don't - I just dislike their current DRM models - I have no problems with finding a way to not have me pass things I buy to everyone in the world that isn't as intrusive - no I don't know what - that's not up to me to invent) but unless we start buying from the new non-DRM sources or through proven (eg. iTunes) DRM-affected sources and simply pirating everything, what incentive is there for them to better serve our needs since we've shown no commitment to mass adoption in the way you previously, mostly, had to go to a store and buy a record.
- jojoko, on 01/03/2008, -0/+1who still uses shareazza?
- dgh1973, on 01/03/2008, -0/+1I don't know about you guys but I don't know what these French buggers are on about... I use shareaza almost exclusively for porn.
- Krpano, on 01/03/2008, -0/+1RIAA dug its own grave
- DestroyFascism, on 01/03/2008, -1/+2No really!
- wukillabee, on 01/03/2008, -0/+0or go to pornotube
PWNED! - unearth, on 01/03/2008, -4/+4uuiU = fail
- fkr3, on 01/03/2008, -2/+2You have never been free to take what they create without paying for it. iTunes is testament to the fact that money can be made off the internet, and many others before and many others now. P2P and piracy is not proof money can be made off the internet unless you mean the people who cash in on P2P by hyping the masses and generating massive ad revenue exploiting both sides of the problem.
- marx2k, on 01/03/2008, -2/+1Not falling for it this time. You weren't even trying
- M4v3rIC, on 01/03/2008, -2/+1Just another NOTE:
Who uses Shareaza anyways? - fkr3, on 01/03/2008, -2/+1Just a NOTE: The only thing this is an open letter to is your easily-hyped imaginations and torrentfreak's ad revenue.
- ifonly, on 01/03/2008, -5/+3You could of just put "..."'s after "the", Digg doesn't need more inaccurate story titles!
- inactive, on 01/03/2008, -4/+2Geeez.
I can't believe I just fell for that. - AcePup, on 01/03/2008, -6/+3Nor does Digg need any more idiots like .... ^
- wukillabee, on 01/03/2008, -3/+0Usenet FTW
- inactive, on 01/03/2008, -8/+4You coulda shortened 'Conspiracy Against Shareaza' to 'Shareaza Conspiracy' ;)
- rb21385, on 01/03/2008, -9/+3Hmm... http://youtube.com/watch?v=eBGIQ7ZuuiU
