- diggydoh, on 01/30/2008, -1/+12I am confused!!!???
If there is no keyword data and nothing on the page identifying it as the correct page for the keyword “Car Insurance” then why does Google bring it up in the number one position?
Possible answers:
1) Confused.com must have paid Google for the top spot.
Surely not!?! Remember – “do no evil” (but maybe they negotiated a higher PPC spend in return?)
2) Confused.com is the authority site for the term “Car Insurance” and they own the position
Surely not!?! There are better unbiased sites for the term.
3) If there is a server error Google doesn’t immediately change the results.
Maybe this is the answer? Maybe they are forgiving if a site has an occasional server error. Not great for the end user!
What do you think? - Lyndoman, on 01/31/2008, -0/+6I wonder who does their seo? Surely not some Cornish company?
- inactive, on 01/30/2008, -0/+5#3 seems to be close...
- yomamaisfat, on 01/31/2008, -0/+5I'm waiting for Google to one day display "I don't know."
- babychen, on 01/31/2008, -0/+4I didn't know it was a car insurance website, with a name like that! Sounds more like a cracked.com or something... yup, so its understandable - but the first result for a high value term in google gives off a page not found error - that is funny in itself :)
- Error601, on 01/31/2008, -1/+4Works for me and is a site about car and home insurance.

I want to find the team who make those adverts and beat them to death with my shoe. - elebrio, on 01/30/2008, -1/+3This site looks like an affiliate site/scraper. Since Google has announced a jihad on paid links and forced webmasters to take them down, their SERPs went right down the *****?
- chris1234, on 01/31/2008, -0/+2haha that was a quite funny search listing
- elebrio, on 01/30/2008, -0/+2Keyword rankings don't get calculated immediately when a page is cached.
- cruik, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1I believe this confusion might have something to do with driving on the left side of the road.
- sicc, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1It's pretty sweet the messed up description, AND they used a meta description tag, and in dmoz and yet LOL a snipped off a page cached for a couple of days.
Sicc - HollowMarkeD, on 01/31/2008, -1/+2http://www.confused.com also seem to be ranking #3 for "dazed" with no mention of the word on their website.
- inactive, on 01/31/2008, -2/+2They should just ask the damn Gecko.........
- pccity, on 06/06/2008, -0/+0Probably have 20,000 backlinks on some indian blogs - google is stupid and easy to beat.
- user24, on 01/31/2008, -4/+2this is one of the most ridiculous/uninformed digs I've ever seen.
1) confused.com is one of the top car insurance comparison sites in the UK, with heavy TV advertising.
2) as you should know, google work on PR, which is calculated mainly by backlinks, not site content
3) do you really think google are stupid enough to not recognise when a website with a history of car insurance related keywords going back to 2001 (see archive.org) suddenly throws what's obviously an error message? They will assume/recognise it was a temporary error and won't penalise the site until it becomes permanently down.
