- evisoft, on 10/11/2007, -7/+44Seams soon we will see ads by Google Adsense in our feeds.
- unloud, on 10/11/2007, -0/+30Dude, it was a one night thing. Stop stalking me.
- NinjaBoy, on 10/11/2007, -3/+27as a man trying to cover my hosting costs with a few ads. this makes me really happy. I dont want to (and cant) get rich of my blog and podcast, but if i could cover the cost of running them and break even, id be very happy.
- hookshotzz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+22I'm sure we'll see more ways to make money through our feeds now...
- pwallroth, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15I use feedburner and google analtyics independently and they both give me unique interpretations of traffic... I hope they stay unique and google isn't just buying out the competition.
- coolian, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15I've become way too dependent on Google's products.
Uh-oh...
@TheCount
It's not a matter of duplicating what FeedBurner or any other product can do - that's no problem for Google. What Google is doing is to buy over the users, that's it. - norbiu, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14Hope they make some improvements on the stats for us junkies and make it part of Analytics or something.
- raynar, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14Why is everyone bitching about ads? They're on digg, and yet you come here...
- Paperclip1, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14I love you.
- mikesherov, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9no, he means more ways to make money if his feeds. I doubt Google will absolutely require ads in the feeds.
- Jholder112233, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8This war is going a bit extreme now.
Its just a constant war between google/microsoft and sometimes yahoo. They are just buying out other companies... - samureye, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Now it's gonna be FREE! And Feedburner just bought BlogBeat haha!
- tutivlahos, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Buying them out is easier.
- cIprO, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7No, because that would be evil and we all know
Google's motto is "Don't be evil" - johnburk, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8This is going to be feedburner + Google adsense + Google analytics = more money for some, more statistics and data for some, more enjoying ads for others ;)
- hockeysmurf, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5What other alternatives are there to Feedburner? Not that I'm anti-Google, but just curious.
- TylerC, on 10/11/2007, -5/+10Probably.... I just hope they leave it like it is and not turn it into some crapy Frankenstein version of Google Reader 2.
- Ratatosk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4wow, the combination of feedburner, adsense and analytics will be a win-win for google and the publishers....
let's hope also for customers, as smart ads are better than others.... (or we won't have anymore free publishers) - checksumz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Sounds like they're jumping into the RSS advertising world that Pheedo and others dominate.
Should be interesting. - cIprO, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Did you even read the article?
The deal states that the founders will be locked in for a couple of years.
Which could mean feedburner staying a seperate entity a-la youtube or it could be
rebranded (most likely). I have never had a problem with google's reimplementation/redesign of a product
(i.e writely became Google docs & spreadsheets.) - macewan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Text-Link-Ads does feedvertising too.
- fallenone05, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Another step closer towards owning the planet.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Another INNOVATIVE move by Google!
- syafthegeek, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Google has spread its wings on RSS advertising.
- spinchange, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Hopefully the optimists here are right, but this is way, way better for Google than for any individual or blogger. Another big question (already asked) is whether or not they will allow insertion of competing ad networks code instead of their own?
- Atomic1fire, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2would you rather pay to read a blog or check your email or view your instant messages(meebo)
- checksumz, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Because it has nothing to do with Greenspan talking about China.
- WildTang3nt, on 10/11/2007, -6/+7@evisoft (#6833168)
If I start seeing ads in my feeds, my very happy relationship with FB is going to turn sour very fast. They had better not do it... - wounded625, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4im in your internetz buying your websitez
- shinda, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3100 mill is a bit steep, wouldn't it have been cheaper for Google to try and push arm them out of the waters by creating a similar service and just trying to outdo them?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1LoL soon google will end itself if it keeps buying websites.
Soon google will own so many websites, all the ads the websites display, will be owned by google! So it will be profiting off its self.. somehow. - fugazied, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1@ WIldTang3nt - there are ads on Digg, why are you still here?
Advertising on your favourite blog isn't the end of the world and you can actually support the blogger by clicking the odd ad. - ellion, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4@TheCount
I think google has designers. Even quite clever ones, since everyone will know it's a google-app by just looking at it for 2 seconds
And FeedBurner = design? I think for such a large service like FB, it's a totally poor design, done by someone who imitated the web2.0 look, especially 37signals, but had no clue what's important for a good and clear design. No grid, no typo-knowledge and especially very poor vector-skills - javij, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1When will the bubble xplode?
It is like if google just keeps buying companies just to keep investors thinking that they are such a good company and that stock should keep going up... - limpits, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1@TheCount
it's not as simple as making it. even if google made something similar to FeedBurner, they would not grow very fast and would still end up with huge competition with FeedBurner. This way they are getting rid of the competition, taking all of their clients, and incorporating whatever they want.
Think about how google video turned out, it had a lot of good features and some features that youtube didn't even have but in the end youtube won because it already had the fan base. - furryplanet, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1wow
- evillure, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Are there any other similar feed services, since I would rather not support the google empire to much?
- marcushenry, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Congrats to feedburner on taking google for a hundred mill, one way or another google ads will spread so no point worrying about that, just try and make a profit from it yourselves
- dailyway, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Better look for an alternative to Feedburner fast! Our readers will drop us ASAP as soon as Google begins spamming the daylights out of our feeds!
- spinchange, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1@ raynar:
If you publish a blog and use Feedburner for your feeds, you *as the author* can decide to display ads in *your* feed -or- not (that you're sharing revenue on). The immediate concern is, is Google planning on moneitizing other's content and changing the economics of the revenue split? I don't know enough about the terms of the deal, and if they're going to change Feedburner's business model or not, but that's what blog authors are probably most concerned about, here...not aimless bitching about ads..."targeted" bitching about Google *potentially* using & making money from ads on other peoples content, and not paying them for it. (that's th fear) - verzonnen, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0I dislike adds with a passion and the feedburner adds where hard but not impossible to block, I am puzzled why they continue push adds to people who clearly do not want them. I don't think it is particularly smart annoying your customers.
But what do I know.. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2I bet there will be some advertisers already waiting to get into feeds. Will rss feeds be the next wave of advertising?
- RegalGSX, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Don't worry, everybody. Google is not evil!
- mbourgon, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2How is this "confirmed" in the least? "A source close" could be the guy I just passed, muttering to himself. Buried for inaccuracy.
- killerqueen, on 10/11/2007, -8/+4Don't you mean they'll get more ways of getting ad impressions?
- omniboy, on 10/11/2007, -7/+2damn, I really liked feedburner the way it is... easy to use... Google will make everything more difficult for those who use it. Grrrrr...
- Jack9, on 10/11/2007, -8/+2Buying a site I've never heard of that does nothing. Notice their stock fall a bit. Drop in the bucket, but a bad call.
- dasilva333, on 10/11/2007, -9/+3link to feedburner:
http://www.feedburner.com/fb/a/home - metafore, on 10/11/2007, -14/+7assuming you boycott ABP/FF...
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -9/+2It looks like there's some more info here too: http://www.fishseo.com/blog/google-buys-feedburner/
Congrats to Feedburner!
