- 7of7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Definitely an excellent list. I always like to see the roots of a company like Microsoft or Apple before they became all lawyers and monopolies.
- besouza, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Good info, the Google and Apple ones are pretty funny...
- scottk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1very interesting. nice digg.
- BauskiBruhva, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I live about 3 blocks from Steve Jobs in Palo Alto and believe it or not he has a small apple orchard in his front yard!
- aaronlidman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1very interesting.
- boardo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1great digg. Never knew how google got their name
- Scuba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1LOL - Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard tossed a coin to decide whether the company they founded would be called Hewlett-Packard or Packard-Hewlett.
- lollerskates, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's a nice picture of Bill.
Anyway, that Yogi from the Lotus story was also a mentor of the Beatles for a time. - AkronGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Somehow I already knew about half of those. very interesting stuff though.
- Sharky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool read.
- geoboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is the best digg I have seen in a while. Thanks!
- mackoid101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Apple's is the best! Somebody should start... "Nectarine Systems Inc."
- RyanPMcBride, on 04/23/2009, -0/+0Wow cool digg.
- pacodotorg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0From the Motorola web site: Paul Galvin first invented the “battery eliminator and enabled AC current to become DC to power a radio, a victrola, then the first car radio (hence the name motor-car-radio/victrola morphed into Motorola).
- jediboytj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the google one was cool, lol
- cobra1122, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0WoW thats good to know =)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Victrola was hardly a "radio company at the time"... It was a Phonograph company! Motorola is OLD school. Pfft.. Radio.
- stanleyfresh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is the type of stuff I've always wondered about. Very nice digg.
- AboutNow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0YAHOO = Yet Another Hierachical Officious Oracle

- ziffel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0+1 to the good digg feedback. enjoyed this one.
- godmode, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0microsoft sounds like impotence :(
- FunkyGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0one of my favorite digs. and good feedback (I agree ziffel)
- zonemen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0404notfound^, I've heard the founders actually say that there was a mis-spelling.
- 404notfound, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The Google description sounds dodgy. Both the Wikipedia entry and an article about Page and Brin in the latest Wired magazine (13.08) simply say that they named it after "googol"; Neither makes any mention of a misspelled check.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool digg! Now, if only we can figure out how the come up with those videogame names from Japan.
- agentpolgas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Like the "Apple" name. LOL

- coldice4678, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0!********WRONG**********!
The APPLE explanation is not wrong! It was because the founders like the Beatles. The Beatles symbol is supposedly an apple. That's why Paul McCarthy constantly suing Apple computers. The agreement early on was Apple computers was suppose to stay out of the music business. When computers got speakers and CD-ROM drives McCarthy sue the Apple Computers. And the reason I know this is because about a year ago McCarthy was suing Apple Computer for itunes store, because again they were getting into the music industry. - phishyJon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0great digg.
never noticed the golden gate bridge in the cisco logo, even after all these years of using their products...D'OH! - agentpolgas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Did McCarthy won the lawsuit? And why the explanation on Yahoo is wrong? Please share your thoughts.

- Flawless, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0The explanation for Yahoo! is completely wrong...
- Banks, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0The Apache one is also wrong
The name 'Apache' was chosen from respect for the Native American Indian tribe of Apache (Indé), well-known for their superior skills in warfare strategy and their inexhaustible endurance
