- trghpy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15I know who's getting the UBER NERD of the year award.
- wierdaaron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Batman has beat Superman. A few times.
Y'see, there's this stuff called kryptonite... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Heros and Potatos is not right, I don't know where you got it that we use it that way in America.
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8@repruhsent
thanks for rolling out all those old cliches that comic book readers are either 12 or 35 year old mega-nerds that live in their parents basements. The bad thing for you is that I really don't fall into any of those categories.
but, I can see that you're just an immature ***** that doesn't really know anything yet sees some reason to completely disregard a form of media despite the fact that you don't even know what's going on in it - DarthBibble, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10How come no one can spell heroes??
- Platypus3333, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Number 1 on list of things that actually matter, in comparison to reading comic books:
Engage in ongoing internet debate regarding validity of reading comic books. - Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8News flash........comic books aren't for kids anymore. Most comic book readers are over the age of 13, and some of the best writers out there in any form of media are working in comics today. Open your goddamned eyes a little bit, ok?
Seriously though, check out Y: The Last Man, Runaways, Powers, Ex Machina, Fables, The Walking Dead.......I could go on - Scopitone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Batman > All
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6He has been a member of the Justice League of America since it started out
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7well, it's great to see that you have such a valid opinion on current comic book creators
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -3/+821 actually, *****.
Have you ever actually read a comic book? - zionKing, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6@repruhsent
What kind of important things do you... besides of course piss from your throne perched high on Mount Maturity onto anyone's head who dare have a hobby? Maybe you should play around some in your imagination. It keeps your creative powers strong (even more so than polo or golf!). I've never read a comic book, but I highly respect the creativity and imagination which their creators pour into them. And I respect the fans of comics. - Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5so what you're saying is that she has maintained her popularity?
I think you mean that the number 1 hero is Mary Jane.....and looking at her picture, I can see why. She could stop Galactus dead in his tracks with that - ethanlance, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6What's so nerdy about Ranking Super Heros against eachother? http://www.comicvine.com/powers/
Thanks GEEKY man! - Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The site is a wiki that is being edited constantly. The users are creating the content, so it will probably take a while for the entire site to flesh out entirely
- pedrito77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@repruhsent
"I read a few comic books, back when I was like 10. Nowadays I'm too busy doing things that actually matter."
...like posting about comic books... - Platypus3333, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Pre Digg, the number two hero was Mary Jane. Post Digg, the number one hero is Mary Jane.
Just... just an observation. - mrjeff3000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Martian Manhunter = (Superman + Professor X + Chameleon Lad) / (Bic Lighter)
- psbpv3o, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm 15, have friends, have a life, get good grades, and have a job, and I also like comic books. I know a lot of people who are the same. Comics aren't bad and childish just because they are labeled that way. I go so far to say that comics are my favorite form of media, and I'm a big movie and music nerd and I watch a fair amount of t.v as well. Although some comics are crappy, many comics have amazing stories, beautiful artwork, and are incredibly fun to read. So please don't shy away from comics just because you're nerd radar goes off every time you see a guy in tights. There are many comics that aren't just men and women in tights, and I'm sure if you walk into a comic shop you will find a good story for someone you know.
- Gundabad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I stopped following the X-men titles around the end of 2002, right near the end of all the Cassandra Nova stuff. I haven't found anything that can explain to me what has happened in the past four year. I've heard they went down the *****, but would like to know from more reliable sources. Anyone know of a good place where I could get such a summary?
- NinJar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4this list is invalid .....it doesnt have me on there~!
- Character0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I definitely do not agree. After browsing through the site I definitely think Wikipedia is a much better resource. Sure this site could definitely handle the information a little better visually, but right now it simply isn't that fleshed out. Definitely has potential though.
- modiggs1976, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3What? No Alan Quatermain in the top 25? Seriously, great site!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2A release of a site, so yes it is.
- 5hinmyoken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2sweet. what this site needs is an instant battle mode. so you can see who wins if spiderman engages mary jane, for example :D
im hoping people will upload more pictures and there will be no issues with copyrighted pictures. - jexdawg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4"I've been scouring Wikipedia to keep up on comics lately"
hahaha.. that sounds so nerdy - fatlip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2whilst i'm not a huge comic book fan... i definately just spent a half hour looking at that site
very well layed out - an0nym0us, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Cap is a meta, how's that a non-powered human?
- ZernanToledo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very cool site.
- ethanlance, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@zacharysykes
Thanks! Alpha Flight was my #1 comic back in the 80s. LOVE THEM. - sembetu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There is no way that HULK is stronger than Thor or Silver Surfer. Thor is a GOD. Um, am I missing something here? Put HULK in space, and it's Curtains. Superman even beats that (He did turn back time, after all.)
- zacharysykes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2OK, digg me down for this if you must, but any site that has Alpha Flight represented in full force has done something right. (What can I say - during the formative years, having a Canadian superhero team was pretty damn cool.)
http://www.comicvine.com/comic/alpha-flight/3217/&i=3190
It may have been 20 years later until the Molson 'proud to be Canadian' ad came out, but with this and Bob and Doug, I was doing OK. - gfnw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hulk is _stronger_. In terms of actual physical strength.
- SuperMoonMan, on 10/12/2007, -7/+8Yes we can. If the word ends in a vowel, add S. If the word ends in a consonant, add a z. For example, one. Plural: ones. Second, pant. Plural: pantz. 'Nuf said.
- BunnyWunny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1(sigh) They ain't what they used to be. Too much Sturm und Drang these days if you ask me, all the heroes are villains, some villains aren't really that bad....bah! Humbug even!
I stopped reading them when they hit 35 cents each, and as usual my parents threw out hundreds of them I had collected, some 10 cents, most of them 12 cents each, some 15, 25. Coulda bought a house with that nowadays. (sob) - whozyodaddy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, and what about Spawn?
- digitalchaos666, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1can we get the same kind of site for the villains too?
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1may I suggest Runaways or Astonishing X-Men? They're good, classic titles that don't have a lot of that anti-hero angst
- pedrito77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1and what about APOCALYPSE?? not even in the top 10 in strength?? what a joke...
- ElMoselYEE, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1sometimes i feel like I'm surrounded by 4th graders
- Brickster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This site is extremely inaccurate, so many characters are missing on these rankings.
- pedrito77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0top 10? I don't see him even in the top 30!!!! where is APOCALYPSE??
- crucibleau, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I've been trying to work out these sorts of things in my collection. Although I'm more into the adult comics like Preacher and Ellis' work than the superhero.
If anyone is interested theres a program at http://www.comicster.net/ called Comicster that you can use as a database for your issues. It's got an online database that anyone can add to, kind of like a wiki - so the more people we get using it, the more thats in there for the next guy who wants to track his collection.
Anyway, it's free - so check it out.
(yeah, its a little bit of an ad, but I use it and love it, and it's on topic) - Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Very cool site. I've been scouring Wikipedia to keep up on comics lately (Civil War is incredibly confusing), but this site looks a little more fleshed out than Wikipedia's entries
- zeroEDGE, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0This is so ***** hilarious, the guy that claims he has better things to do is replying to everyone, trying defending his "life."
- Altesse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0> My inner child is giddy now that I found this site!!!
>
> But What!??? Batman beats Superman?
> Batman has beat Superman. A few times.
I think the general rule at DC is : Batman can beat anyone
and at Marvel : Captain America beats anyone
and I believe it's because it sends a positive message like 'Just a man without any power - almost any power for Cap - can make the difference' - Altesse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0> Who the hell is the Martian Manhunter and why is he in the
> top 10 of all the lists?
Martian Manhunter has Superman-level strength, throws lasers from his eyes like Superman as well, has super-speed as well, plus :
- Invisibility
- Shape-shifting
- Mental powers
So, um, yeah, he belongs in the top 10, at least in terms of power. And he's far from new (1955), has belonged to almost every (hmm, every, now that I think of it) incarnation of the Justice League, so even if he's not as popular as others, he has his place in the top of almost any ranking. - Ashkc88, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yes it is, if you look it up you'll find it. That or ask an english teacher. If you type "heros" or "potatos" in MS word it says its correct spelling.
- IrritatedJones, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm geeking out! This is a great resource. (Read: I'm a complete and total geek.)
- Altesse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0> Cap is a meta, how's that a non-powered human?
His faculties are permanently enhanced by the super-soldier serum, so technically, yes, he's a meta. However, he can't lift a car or fly. He's in the highest shape a human can be, but has still human abilities. From http://www.marvelstore.co.uk/captain_america/powers/ :
> Captain America's agility, strength, endurance and reaction time
> are superior to those of an Olympic-level athlete
[...]
> - Peak physical condition
> - Heightened endurance, strength and reaction time
> - Expert hand-to-hand fighter
Best human there is, non-powered nonetheless. And, by the way, I said "almost any power". -
