- theandy1, on 04/17/2008, -0/+25I wish I could have at least two suitable isps to choose from in my area. Articles like this make me feel bitter every time I give comcast my money.
- jeffsback2223, on 04/17/2008, -0/+16I wouldn't even look at Comcast's proposal before I reject it. Why? Because Its' not Comcast's place to decide how the net should run.
- jeffsback2223, on 04/17/2008, -0/+13Comcast has proven themselves time after time to be untrustworthy. I would rather not give them the chance to cause irreversible harm.
- hollyminkowski, on 04/17/2008, -0/+12If Comcast keeps up with content blocking they are going to undermine the DMCA Safe Harbor provisions and open themselves up to liability for illegal data passing through their pipes. RIAA and MPAA would love to remove the Safe Harbor rules.
- Shadowgamers, on 04/17/2008, -0/+9***** the RIAA V:
- Holle, on 04/17/2008, -0/+8Some of us don't have a choice, it's either comcast or dial-up. And dial-up porn isn't much fun.
- xXShadowstormXx, on 04/17/2008, -0/+8Fine by me. This needs to get out further so more people know about it.
- Seventus, on 04/17/2008, -0/+8I hate to say that I have service with them :(
I would switch but DSL is so slow around here, and I don't care for a phone line. Most providers are not willing to give you 'Naked DSL' either. - RealmDown, on 04/17/2008, -0/+6I smell super-delegate diggs.
- goblindegook, on 04/17/2008, -0/+5For the umptieth time: it's not just the number of diggs that determines whether a story is frontpaged.
- bingostud722, on 04/17/2008, -0/+5But Comcast IS completely idiotic....
- Fxer, on 04/17/2008, -0/+4So it would be Comcast vs. the RIAA? I don't know who to root for.
- MUATO, on 04/17/2008, -0/+4COMCAST took over here in WV and it has been nothing but problems. We have figured out a couple things.
1. COMCAST is ALWAYS right.
2. Its ALWAYS your equipment that is the problem.
3. COMCAST reps will always tell you waht you want to hear true or not.
As long as you live by this then everything should be gravy. - Fxer, on 04/17/2008, -0/+3They are capable of controlling traffic because they don't have competition in most areas. That's the same reason people think that bill is a load of crap; they probably won't before to do anything that actually benefits consumers.
- ksgant, on 04/17/2008, -1/+4I will go back to dial-up before I EVER go back to Comcast.
- brianara3, on 04/17/2008, -1/+4What the hell are you smoking?
From the article:
"The cable giant’s blocking of peer-to-peer applications continues to this day with no indication from the company of when or if they plan to stop."
-and-
"This is the same company that still refuses to admit that it was secretly blocking its users’ file-sharing applications, even after several independent investigations found the opposite to be true." - brianara3, on 04/17/2008, -0/+3So, they don't like public viewed "bad stuff"...
From the article:
"It’s the same company that then tried to block public debate on the issue by hiring seat-fillers to deny people entry to an FCC hearing in Boston." - czeman, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2Here's how I read into this...
Comcast's network can't support the amount of traffic generated by their customers, so they choose certain services to block and get called on it. They can't just come out and say,"Hey, you're going to pay premium prices for our service, but there will be limits as to what you may do." They'll lose most of their customers. So, they come up with this lame-ass tactic and have their PR people sugarcoat it. Don't believe anything that is stated by big business. It's ***** nine out of ten times. Who lies more, Comcast or Hillary? - brianara3, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2OK.. we get it... people are tired of the algorithm... too freakin bad. Can we please stop complaining and move on?
- Rhendal, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2"He's appointed himself judge, jury and executioner!"
"He's not Judge Judy and executioner!" - DangerMouse9, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1You think Verizon is any better?
- Fxer, on 04/17/2008, -1/+2Begone. This is not for your brains.
- brianara3, on 04/17/2008, -1/+2That didn't even make sense...
- inactive, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1Comment 1 completely proves my post because the ONLY group to ever have claimed that Comcast was blocking was the EFF, and they have retracted their research.
Comment 2 Shows how a group of researchers in Colorado replicated EFF's research and they replicated the errors in the EFFs experiment, however when they went back over their research they determined their initial findings were shoddy. The interesting things is the errors they were getting were caused by their router, and those errors are EXACTLY the same problem that the EFF claimed in their research before they removed it from the web. - brianara3, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1I feel your pain.. I have the same problem here. My apartment complex signed a deal with comcast and I can't even get dsl without a ton of crap to deal with. They even go to the very limit of the law on satellite and require you to "paint it to match the exterior of the building, to maintain the community appearance."
- CressCrowbits, on 04/17/2008, -1/+2SHUT UP
- brianara3, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1Only if said envelopes contain CD's... then they will be "lost" and the sending party will be told to go away.
- xptoast, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1I would like to also ask if those that had intelligence and the sincere and not fake want to make a difference would join a group of people dedicated to fixing the problems at home in our own USA. It would be possibly called The USA Peoples Union. Not a job union but a union of people that would be dedicated to not just one particular cause but to the entire cause of fixing this broken country with screwed up companies like Comcast and other companies that only wish to rip you off. Who would be willing to join such a group with that cause/s in mind?
- mllawso, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1Verizon FTL
- FLMarijuana, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1This is the very reason why I'm still on DSL. Comcast sucks!
- legendeath, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1From what I've experienced I just pay my bill. I've never had any issues with bandwidth which can easily go to around a gig a day, billing or customer service. I can use any program I want without error. I guess it's just me then.
- Atomic1fire, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1why dont you just make your own bill and stop complaining
- xptoast, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1I think that people must not care much. Yes I understand how the infrastructure works or I would not have proposed the idea. There are many companies that wire into each others trunk lines to form a large network we call the Internet. Most of the current infrastructure is run by AT&T. Most companies wire into their trunk line. Why would I propose something if it was not feasible? It is feasible. For instance you must have the beginning to any food chain and in this case you must have a beginning to a new company structure. I guess people don't care as much as they talk about how they care. This is why our government takes up causes...the people are too lazy to do it themselves. I now know that all diggers are full of crap when they talk about anything moral or innovative. They would rather have someone else do their work. In this case a few others would take care of the work with funding(similar to stocks). In this case however I was just asking for a showing of those who would support such an action. So far I see a response that shows they want the continued oppressive companies running the show.
- soupnrc, on 04/17/2008, -1/+2It's funny, I've been using Comcast for years now up here in good ol' Washington State. I've never had real issues with them, with the OBVIOUS exception of the fact that I have a hard time Torrenting ANYTHING. However, I always get good customer service when I need it. My internets are always fast and hasn't ever slowed down.
With that said, I think they are a bad corporation and need to be taken down. They are monopolizing the cable industry and doing a crappy job of providing EVERYBODY the equal usage of their services.
My name is Ryan and I approve this message. - gerriediaz, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1doesnt everybody? buried for being lame
- loker269, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1Exactly, they blocked the public debate because they did not want the bad stuff out in the public...
- YodaJones, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1I think a nation wide class action lawsuit may help.
- inactive, on 04/17/2008, -0/+0Most of my friends switched to fiber along time ago, to verizon. Its just my immediate area doesn't have verizon. Waiting patiently for it.
- inactive, on 04/17/2008, -0/+0but shouldn't dial porn be more exciting since things are so slow that you are like a kid with candy; waiting for the page to load.
- u235sentinel, on 04/17/2008, -0/+0This is one of the reasons I won't go back to Concast despite their plea for us to resubscribe. After they terminated my families internet for a year and mistreated us, why the hell would we go back?
Now that there is competition, they can drop off the face of the earth for all I care. My family even made a video in response to Concast's abuse. http://youtube.com/watch?v=hmOjoYUZFm0
We figured it's the best way to answer the company after four years of ontime payments.
And yes, we used P2P along with many other services on the web. I suspect this is why they terminated our internet. We used it too much.
What a crock of crap.
here is what I sent to the FCC through vuze.com regarding the hearings.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=SIS9gfbAnR0
I wish the FCC luck. They are going to need it. - groovechamp30, on 04/17/2008, -3/+3***** comcast, cancel your subscriptions please!
- scottsharperz, on 04/17/2008, -0/+0Thats sad. I was actually starting to like Comcast before I moved and had to switch to Time Warner. Comcast, Verzon, Time Warner...they all suck. I'd rather just get a Sprint broadband card and deal with slower speeds than deal with this *****. I don't have ***** time to play mind games with Mega companies like this.
- inactive, on 04/17/2008, -1/+1I am smoking the facts. Here, here is a link to the effs study on how to replicate the effects of this blocking,
http://www.eff.org/files/packet-injection.pdf - xptoast, on 04/17/2008, -1/+1Anyone want to chip in and start our own Internet cable company that is ran for the people that use it instead of the people that want the bottom line only? By adding your name with a positive comment as reply to my comment it will show a somewhat good indication of a poll of people wanting to actually do something. I will chip in 300 bucks and w/e I usually pay per month after that to get this thing rocking if we could. Maybe we could do something similar to the money bomb that was done for Ron Paul and other candidates except for projects that are specifically designed to stick it to the corporate d-bags and to help out the common man that just wants what service they are paying for. Lets see the reactions folks!!!
- inactive, on 04/17/2008, -1/+1And furthermore
Said researches have been busted for being wrong about comcast before
http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20080408-rush ... - Tenoq, on 04/18/2008, -1/+1I don't think you understand how infrastructure builds work. :p
- TubeDigger, on 04/17/2008, -2/+1The post office called they said manila evelopes are going to be slower then other mail. Deal with it
- brianara3, on 04/17/2008, -1/+0Ok... comment 1 completely disproves your orig. post by proving that they WERE filtering. ("article even admits that the haters still can't prove that Comcast was blocking P2P") As the "haters" (the EFF, etc) proved without a doubt that they are blocking.
Comment 2 was because some dumbass at a university can't follow basic routing principles. Not because the research was wrong. Also, nobody else but that single person tested or claimed they were blocking web access. - loker269, on 04/17/2008, -2/+1sorry if that was sort of convoluted...I just woke up...
My point just was they are making a genuine attempt to protect consumers and it is obviously in their own interest to do so but why shouldn't we benefit from this PR blitz? I mean if this bill of rights turns out to be good and Comcast adopts it they will be able to start advertising that they protect their customers and give them the whole internet....this will light a fire under any competition in their areas to do the same.... -
