- Accolade1, on 05/16/2008, -1/+65I've been using BitTorrent all this time after the previous announcement - and now I find out that there are still more traffic blocks? Comcast, you might be kicked to the curb if I switch to Fios.
- TheMooCow, on 05/16/2008, -3/+45Ha Ha, - everyone needs to install AntiPhormLite:
http://www.antiphorm.com/page_software.htm
That'll trick 'em ! - billpyle, on 05/16/2008, -0/+33Is anyone surprised?
- datcrazydj, on 05/16/2008, -3/+33***** COMCAST!
- Khast, on 05/16/2008, -0/+27This seems to be a trend. Worldwide there is a push to end software piracy, probably RIAA and MPAA are putting a lot of money into this as well.
I understand some ISPs also block encrypted data, if there is more than a couple of packets. (Sending passwords, bank stuff, ect should be okay, but encrypting a transfer would trigger some of the software.
Not sure how to break it to the RIAA/MPAA/Software companies......but piracy has been around for a long time, and it evolves just as fast, if not faster than the industry.
There will be a workaround, and if the ISPs all want to go and block torrent traffic, it'll only come sooner. - EvilCan, on 05/16/2008, -1/+25Comcast sucks! Everyone cancel your Plaxo accounts! Oh wait...nobody has one of those.
- lolwutpear, on 05/16/2008, -0/+15that's right, every use of the word "lie" is a reference to portal
- hatchetj, on 05/16/2008, -3/+17BitTorrent wasn't designed for Piracy.
- jkahrs595, on 05/16/2008, -2/+12I was going to say something smart and sarcastic, but I was distracted by the shiny new comment system and forgot. Damn it.
- reeder, on 05/16/2008, -1/+11If you encrypt utorrent, you can get by for the most part:
http://torrentfreak.com/how-to-encrypt-bittorrent- ...
That being said, ***** Comca$t and every other ISP and telco that feels they have the right to define our rights. - WoollyMittens, on 05/16/2008, -1/+10So? Who are Comcast to play judge, jury and executioner? They're a service provider, not a corporate overlord.
- Betrayer, on 05/16/2008, -2/+10It starts with torrent traffic, your PORN will be next!
there is no Democracy on the internet... you get whatever they feed you.. welcome to china people! - zerocool1990, on 05/16/2008, -0/+8***** THE RIAA!!
- legoalert33, on 05/16/2008, -0/+8Hum... slow ***** dial-up, fast yet throttled Comcast, or triple the price mediocre satellite internet.
While living in the middle of nowhere those are my only choices. Unfortunately Comcast is the best one for me. - maddox, on 05/16/2008, -0/+8As if they actually care about blocking pirates. All they care about saving bandwidth which = saving money for them!
- jhandfield, on 05/16/2008, -0/+7Middle of nowhere? I live 15 miles northeast of Boston (Salem) and my only choice is Comcast! RCN doesn't seem to believe Salem exists, and Verizon says they don't offer DSL or FiOS in town (though it's on our border, but hasn't moved into the city yet which leaves me thinking it never will).
It's not just rural areas that have no choice... My parents up on the coast of Maine in a town of barely 3,000 people have more choices than I do! - WoollyMittens, on 05/16/2008, -0/+7Don't forget the 10 million World of Warcraft players who's game-client downloads updates using bittorrent.
And stop making up statistics, please. - Mooinakan, on 05/16/2008, -0/+7I agree. Blocking ALL bittorrent traffic to prevent piracy is an idiotic solution, not to mention a huge invasion of my rights as a paying customer. ***** those guys.
- encrypter, on 05/16/2008, -0/+7I've never seen this before, does it actually work?
- WoollyMittens, on 05/16/2008, -1/+8So science builds the internet, then the corporate overlords take control and run it into the ground. What a surprise.
- thelif, on 05/16/2008, -12/+19"BitTorrent upstream traffic was only blocked during periods of heavy network traffic, this turns out to be a lie." dugg for ultra vague Portal reference.
- inactive, on 05/16/2008, -1/+6I'm going to lie to Comcast, and tell them I sent the check.
(Okay, I'm not.) - CAD420, on 05/16/2008, -0/+5not much better though...
- ByteGuerilla, on 05/16/2008, -0/+5I love the way their source code is in DarkBASIC. That's one way to make sure no one compiles their own. =/
- xNaquada, on 05/16/2008, -0/+5Well rogers has a 60GB cap (combined up and down) and overage charges. At least comcast is toying with the idea of a 250GB cap.
***** ROGERS. I FKIN HATE THEM. - happbando, on 05/16/2008, -1/+6I didn't realize that Cox was doing this too. I always thought they were better, and I never really had problems with Bittorent with them. I guess I'll keep my eye out from now on.
- emix, on 05/16/2008, -0/+5don't worry about what i use bittorrent for
- Solis, on 05/16/2008, -0/+5Real easy to say when you have other options...when you don't though...
- happbando, on 05/16/2008, -0/+5can't.
- inactive, on 05/16/2008, -1/+5Mid-Hudson Valley Cablevision High-speed Internet FTW!!!
- FunkyWitDaSysTm, on 05/16/2008, -0/+4not exactly worldwide. rather the influence of the usa's lobbyists is being felt worldwide. not every other country cares for the meddling efforts of the mpaa or riaa or ifpa in their governance. while the usa may feel the sting, the rest of the world just placates and patronizes those organizations as they would the wasted drunk chick a party, wishing for that sweet moment when she either leaves or passes out.
- EvilCan, on 05/16/2008, -0/+4I would never buy that show...it's crap.
- tavisjohn, on 05/16/2008, -3/+7Comcast did not lie.... They just did not define "Heavy Traffic". Their definition makes ALL traffic HEAVY traffic... Therefore.... ;)
- KillerKellerjr, on 05/16/2008, -0/+4When I use torrents its mainly to download TV shows, even though I could watch them online I'd rather download and watch with my XBOX XBMC on my large screen!! I don't save them either, I just download, watch and delete! Watching an entire season over a short period really changes your perspective of a show rather than waiting week by week....try it once....
- Akraz, on 05/16/2008, -2/+6Even Roger's is better than Comcast.
- TheZorch, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3Lying to a government inquiry panel carries the same penalties as perjury in court. If the FCC wanted to they could press charges and Comcast's people who lied would go to jail.
- Dylson, on 05/16/2008, -1/+4Dugg for dimwit.
- FunkyWitDaSysTm, on 05/16/2008, -9/+12yeah? and what is your lazy do-nothing ass going to do about it other than digg this story, thinking that actually means anything or will make a difference? heh.
call a senetor. jeez. it's called democracy, people. do it. if you don't know what i mean, then for the love of humanity, LOOK IT UP. - MarkusDee, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3I just DLed it and it looks pretty neat. It even gives you the option if you want it to run completely in the background, on the desktop, or even in the browser. Also, as far as can tell you have pretty good control over when it does and does not run. I'm sold.
- kryptobs2000, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3I bet they would be kicked to the curb if you switch
- flessa, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3Verizon fios ftw. service never goes down, and they dont filter. oh, and its fast as *****.
- lolwutpear, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3Not your personal/ideological army.
- SteveMax, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2Comcast never released their numbers, but an UK ISP did. P2P is less than 20% of the total traffic. HTTP and streaming use much, much more.
http://community.plus.net/blog/2008/03/31/usage-ma ... - inactive, on 05/16/2008, -1/+3Would be nice if they had it for mac.
- Tooch07, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2No, they've been doing either throttling or QoS tagging within the last month. My torrent speeds are all over the place. Other than that, Optimum Boost is fantastic (30/5)
- saisumimen, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2I've known about it for some time. When I downloaded files from websites (or even FTP sites), I would get speeds of up to 3mb/s, but with torrents would max out at a steady 1 mb/s, even after properly forwarding ports, etc.
It's still faster than Qwest, though; the most I get now is 300 kb/s :( - pw378, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2Ah, the Clinton defense...
It all depends on the meaning of [insert word here] - Elderon, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1Whoever came up with this bright idea of blocking traffic needs to get a swift kick in the crotch. Nothing like having your cable connection go to ***** because someone in the house is patching wow using that stupid bittorrent patcher.
As it stands for me I can download torrents fine, but if my upload for any given torrent goes above like 6/ks upload my entire connection slows down so much I can barely open web pages. Kind of embarrasing to have 6mb down /2mb up and I get an unusable connection at less than 10kb/s up
I'd like to end my rant by saying that comcast can DIAF. I'd take FIOS if it was in my area =( - inactive, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1yeah my skype calls drop a lot and xbox games disconnect all the time, so i actually dont like them that much. dont understand why i have "small business" internet around here!!!
