- Yankees368, on 05/14/2009, -0/+13Wireless WiMax? Is that opposed to wired WiMax?
- Tiak, on 05/14/2009, -0/+4Eh, Sprint is actually spending massive amounts of money on it. Basically the idea is to make WiMax radios in all their phones their new data plan...
(Sprint owns 51% of the aforementioned company Clearwire... Other bits are owned by Comcast/Time Warner/Intel/Google.) - Whackly, on 05/14/2009, -0/+4Clearwire's Wimax goes live in a couple major metros soon. They've got builds going on all over. Let's see if you're still saying it's all talk in 6 months... or 6 weeks even.
- sevenalive, on 05/14/2009, -1/+5you might, but doesn't mean everyone. If you actually did that (i really doubt it), then you might be a redneck
- robohoe, on 05/14/2009, -0/+3Eh, Cisco will buy them out sooner or later...it always starts with a "partnership"
- brianpocock, on 05/14/2009, -0/+2Dam me too, theres my 15 mins of fame gone :(
- Cache22, on 05/16/2009, -0/+2I think if you look at the transition to the new company, the executive staff changes (including 3 new people onboard the last week that bring a lot to the table), and the quality of the WiMax service so far, there is an effort to raise the bar to avoid negative customer service incidents that lead to this much blowback. Especially since now that they are a new company funded by a few very large partners, I think that will keep some pressure on them to make sure their customer service is good. (Well Comcast probably doesn't care, but Google and Intel aren't going to sit idle if the new Clearwire makes a lot of big customer relations blunders.)
- fedak, on 05/14/2009, -0/+1Came here to say this.
- TonyTheTerrible, on 06/05/2009, -0/+1clearwire is terrible and a scam company.
- ihatediggcom, on 05/14/2009, -1/+2i just became a salesman for clear. But i didn't start yet.
they promise about $60 dollars for every sign up that you get. - INTERNETMASTER, on 05/14/2009, -0/+1pics or it didn't happen
- Cache22, on 05/16/2009, -0/+1I'm not sure if Cisco would want them, it's not really the type of business they do. But Cisco being a customer of Clearwire makes perfect sense. (Plus, buying out a company that has Sprint, Google, Intel, and others invested in already can get complicated.)
From what I understand at this point, Cisco is more of a supplier than a "partner" anyway. If Cisco did get involved in related buyouts, it would most likely focus on wireless backhaul and other infrastructure companies such as FiberTower that deal with some of the main bottlenecks of mobile wireless data communications. - Whackly, on 05/18/2009, -0/+1What's that? They are selling service in Atlanta as we speak? Gosh, looks like you knew what you were talking about!
- Cache22, on 05/16/2009, -0/+1It is not just Sprint investing, although S does have 51% ownership: Google, Intel, Brighthouse Networks, Time Warner, and Comcast all have a stake in WiMax and Clearwire as well. While it is true that the WiMax buildout has slowed due to the economy, they are still well ahead of LTE, and have the advantage of being created as a more "open" network from the start, allowing different providers to sell their branded services on the network. They may have only added 25,000 subscribers for Q1 of 2009, but at a time that many other industries are losing customers due to the recession (and consumers are holding back on spending for new services), that is pretty good considering they only have a few cities rolled out. One problem at the moment is not many people really know what "WiMax" is, but once Intel based laptops with integrated WiMax support show up in stores, along with Cisco's Linksys branded WiMax modems for home use, and other hardware, there is no doubt that the underdog in this race has a real good chance of winning.
- Whackly, on 05/18/2009, -0/+1Thank you.

No one loves me and yet I come here every day,
Suppose I really shouldn't bother....
Oh shut up.. - LANjackal, on 05/13/2009, -5/+5Who cares? WiMax has been all talk and no action since its inception.
- prolikewhoa, on 05/14/2009, -1/+0Sprint may be investing in WiMax but AT&T and Verizon are going with LTE
- Heywoodj, on 05/14/2009, -4/+2@seven I am a redneck ,but I'm not alone in my dissatisfaction with Clearwire, hence the link.
You doubt I shot it? want to come out to my back yard and discuss it? - Heywoodj, on 05/14/2009, -6/+1http://clearwiresucks.com/blog/
I had em, I hated them, I canceled the day my contract was up.
Man do what you have to do to make a living, but wear a phony mustache or something. Their customers really hate them.
I sent their modem back to them with a couple of bullet holes in it. - inflation, on 05/14/2009, -7/+0boring.
