Cities have to bid bye-bye to free Wi-Fi

sfgate.com — The free municipal Wi-Fi dream appears to be coming to an end for a handful of Bay Area cities. MetroFi, who is hoping municipalities will pick up huge tabs by buying them out in areas such as Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Cupertino, downtown San Jose, Foster City and Concord. Hmmm, Cupertino...couldn't Apple help with this at least in their town?

  • LilBambi, on 06/14/2008, -0/+1And where are the other big companies that could help in their own hometowns where so many have helped to build their businesses. Form a non-profit to handle the funding for it? There has to be some way to do it that would keep these areas alive. But I don't think the the big telecoms want to keep them alive; and that's likely key.
