- nixonrichard, on 10/12/2007, -7/+78I love how the article says the church does not approve of piracy. If Jesus were alive today he would have received a letter in the mail after that "feed the 5000" stunt.
"From the Law office of Berkman, Wolfwitz, and Sandberg:
It recently came to our attention that you purchased two fish and 5 loaves of bread from out client GENERAL MILLS (herein known as the COMPLAINER). You are perfectly free to distribute these items others; however, duplicating such items is a violation of the property rights of the COMPLAINER. Your two fish and five loaves cost you $7.15 and were intended to feed a maximum of 8 people. We estimate your infringement on the COMPLAINER's rights to be $4450. However, as a special consideration for you, we will allow you to settle this matter by visiting the website below and paying a substantially reduced sum using Visa, MasterCard, or American Express. If you do not settle this complaint using the aforementioned website, we may pursue further civil action.

In case anyone is wondering, a sacristan is an officer in charge of the religious room where the sacred vessels and vestments are. This room is known as a sacristy. Also, the first clue that this man wasn't a priest was the fact that him and his SON were accused.
- nepawoods, on 10/12/2007, -7/+43He wasn't a priest.
- jtaz90s, on 10/12/2007, -32/+59glad to see priests branching out into new and more useful forms of criminal activity
- mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19I used to be a sacristan. You can volunteer for that job actually.

Somebody needs to work on their ordering skills! - scott9378, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16He didn't read it wrong, it was written wrong. They have punctuation for a (pause).
- gmagana, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16HE WAS NOT A PRIEST.. jeez.. it's clearly stated he was a sacristan. This is what a sacristan is:
A person in charge of the sacristy and its contents is called a sacrist or a sacristan.
This is what a sacristy is:
A sacristy is a room for keeping vestments (such as the cassock and chasuble) and other church furnishings, sacred vessels, and church treasures. The sacristy is usually located inside the church, but it could be an annex or separate building (as in some monasteries).
In other words: HE WAS NOT A PRIEST... - DiggingDeep, on 10/12/2007, -9/+18He got in trouble for distributing The Da Vinci Code.
- tacroy, on 10/12/2007, -8/+16Personally I think its horrible that someone that high up would be such a hypocrite, good to see the back of him. On a related note, it will be interesting to see how many diggers condemn him while arguing that piracy is not a crime in other threads.
- spyrochaete, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Turning water to wine is a breach of the DMCA
- davidrools, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7it was a witty comment (pause) not!
- nepawoods, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10"Personally I think its horrible that someone that high up would be such a hypocrite..."
I'm not sure it's all that high up. And why is he a hypocrite? Is there any indication he ever said copying DVDs was wrong, or theft? - minox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2A sacristan is not a powerful position. The article, in an attempt to try to point out hypocrisy, is embellishing the facts. I know a sacristan who makes something like 20,000 a year. Oh what a powerful position.
- Travelsonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"...charge of downloading and distributing thousands of copyrighted movies and music albums"
No,
Distributing the copyrighted works without authorization or permission from the copyright holder.
It may not seem like it maters now, but when you tell somebody who buys the biased spin on the truth to download a file you made, you copyrighted and allowed for free share, and he/she refuses on the grounds that it is copyrighted alone... you see my point. - carpespasm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4so was the davinci code, what's your point?
- WickedDrag0oN, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Dude if you wanted to be safe from most laws, the church was where to do it. Ill be damned that the MPAA and RIAA broke down those doors too. Whats next? Cuba?
- my10cent, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1RIAA Take that even GOD bless Piracy, now back off you sons of Satan
- jtaz90s, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nowadays the sacristan is elected or appointed. The "Cæremoniale episcoporum" prescribed that in cathedral and collegiate churches the SACRISTAN SHOULD BE A PRIEST, and describes his duties in regard to the sacristy, the Blessed Eucharist, the baptismal font, the holy oils, the sacred relics, the decoration of the church for the different seasons and feasts, the preparation of what is necessary for the various ceremonies, the pregustation in pontifical Mass, the ringing of the church bells, the preservation of order in the church, and the distribution of Masses; and finally it suggests that one or two canons be appointed each year to supervise the work of the sacristan and his assistants.
--straight from the catholic encyclopedia... - minox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Church official" I am guessing that is being used rather loosely. Being a sacristan, even at a cathedral, is somewhat like being a parking attendant at the Ritz. A sacristan isn't even ordained. What's next? You might as well say that Christians are on a crime spree in America, since most Americans are Christian.

- Spo8, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1And then God created BitTorrent, and saw that it was good.
- Amorrn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Hey, he probably got the idea from the bible.
In fact, God violated the DMCA by copying work written down by Moses:
"The LORD said to Moses, 'Chisel out two stone tablets like the first ones, and I will write on them the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke.'"-Exodus 34:1 - Raidendesu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Peer 2 Peer for Jesus!
