- diggeddugg, on 03/17/2008, -4/+48Remind me again why our athletes are attending the Olympics, or that they were even allowed to host it in the first place?
- KingGorilla, on 03/17/2008, -2/+45How will we ever rick roll them now???
- wiretapped, on 03/17/2008, -0/+39At least they know how to do it without shutting down Youtube to everyone else, Pakistan style.
- euro22, on 12/17/2008, -6/+34Dugg for "The Great Firewall of China"
- phlux, on 03/17/2008, -5/+30my best friends wife is from Lhasa, her parents are still there - she was told by them that peaceful protesters were rolled up on by a tank which used a flame thrower to kill "at least a hundred" those that were not killed by the flames were then simply shot.
They were also using gas against the monks and people, and the people were ordered to stay in their homes as full martial law is enforced.
***** CHINA - doyoulikeworms, on 03/17/2008, -1/+25Dugg for the engrish title.
- lidong, on 03/17/2008, -1/+11I'm using TOR.
- jimshady, on 03/17/2008, -0/+7That's bad. I hope Tibet gets its freedom this time. Boycott the Olympics!
And while all this is happening, I hope nobody forgets Burma. - EpicSelekta, on 03/17/2008, -8/+14Alternate theory: Maybe China blocked Youtube to shield it's people from the sheer stupidity that goes on there.
You know, stuff like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWT26iReU_Q - Hangly, on 03/17/2008, -1/+7I know the history of Tibet and China, thank you very much. While it's true that most hippies who bloviate about the peaceful innocent Tibetans are pretty clueless, the fact is the Tibetans don't want the Chinese there. The fact that there's rioting should demonstrate that well enough. It doesn't take a college degree to know that killing protesters bad.
I don't know if you've noticed, but there are plenty of people on Digg who know what's going on. This article was clearly submitted by someone in Asia, and I've counted several people from Taiwan and Hong Kong participating in the threads. - Hangly, on 03/17/2008, -0/+4Manufacturing -> money -> PC ownership -> internet use -> free speech (sanctioned or not.)
China has about 100,000,000 internet users, and you better believe they're circulating stories about what's going on right now. The Chinese firewall is pretty damn ineffective, and shutting down Youtube has only alerted people to the fact that there's some serious ***** going down. - slikwacko, on 03/17/2008, -2/+6a friend of mine in beijing says they blocked yahoo email too
- tempusrob, on 03/17/2008, -1/+5More like sex, drugs, and rick roll!
- SysstemLord, on 03/17/2008, -0/+4I tried this ultrasurf, and my firewall reported that it tries to access paypal.com and bankofamerica.com and some other sites in https, why is that?
I blocked it because i'm afraid it's trying to send my passwords - liuite, on 03/17/2008, -0/+4Where is Rev Wright...God damn China!
are the christians in America silent when it comes to atrocities of buddhists? - slikwacko, on 03/17/2008, -1/+5a friend of mine in beijing says they blocked yahoo email too
- annflower, on 03/17/2008, -0/+3blocking youtube will bring them nothing, cause doing such things always provoke plenty of discussions about it. forbidding anything you make thinking about this. and person who wants to find out smth will always find how to do it
- inactive, on 03/17/2008, -0/+3Pakistan, Turkey, China....next who ????
- Hangly, on 03/17/2008, -0/+3Oooh, that's what happened. I thought it was just me.
I use TOR too, but it's really damn slow, especially for videos. - ojk007, on 03/17/2008, -0/+3like tor?
- cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -1/+4Here is something you can't understand, how I could just kill a man.
- ZachSka87, on 03/17/2008, -5/+8Have you not heard that expression before?
- phlux, on 03/17/2008, -1/+4Agreed, and how about: "***** ALL REPRESSIVE LEADERSHIP"
It feels as though there is about to be a global backlash against all humans seeking to control other humans... - Hangly, on 03/17/2008, -0/+3government != people
Chinese people are pretty weary of their government. Also it makes no sense to fault the whole country when that country has no open elections. Chinese people are in no way culpable for what their leaders do. - Scottievm, on 03/17/2008, -0/+3YouTube is blocked in Turkey right now as well. Pretty annoying...
- KnightWhoSaysNi, on 03/17/2008, -0/+3Sort-of like paying the mafia for "protection".
- Hangly, on 03/17/2008, -0/+3Protests have spread to Gansu province.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ge5SEPvRUtI - juicebag, on 03/17/2008, -1/+4What?
- Hangly, on 03/17/2008, -1/+4Can we revise this to "***** THE CCP?" Thanks in advance. The CCP will roll tanks over a protester whether he is Tibetan, Han Chinese, or whatever.
- chessoriginal, on 03/17/2008, -0/+2thats messed up
- Culyt, on 03/17/2008, -0/+2Proxying streaming video would suck, its hard enough for me to watch youtube in realtime without one. I don't know what the internet is like in China.
- darkhero77, on 03/17/2008, -0/+2mind your own business
- celticchrys, on 03/17/2008, -0/+2I would think that the Native Americans would be a better analogy, since the Tibetans were in Tibet first, and then invaded, like Native Americans here, whereas African Americans were kidnapped from Africa and imported.
- mvk25, on 03/17/2008, -0/+2i remember at some point they even blocked google? WTF
- xNIBx, on 03/17/2008, -0/+2So China should continue screwing Tibet so that Tibet will never gain power and therefore will never be potentially a threat in the future? I love your logic. Every country has ***** some other country at some point in their history. That doesnt give anyone the right to conquer everyone else so that they "wont pose a threat in the future". I mean, why stop with Tibet? Why not invade Japan? Why not invade Russia?
Oh yes, Japan and Russia have a real army. So you only ***** with those that you can get away with. - liuite, on 03/17/2008, -0/+2The marginalization of Tibetans in China is like the injustices against blacks in America...Chinese people feel superior to their Tibetan counterpart, and claim that the Tibetans are better off under Chinese rule.
- p4r4d0x, on 03/17/2008, -0/+2Sex, drugs and rock n roll. Let's do this!
- DuffyDirect, on 03/17/2008, -0/+2the most splendid periods of peace and economic prosperity in american history took place whilst the federal reserve note was the currency of the land -- what in the ***** are you yacking about?
The subprime mess has absolutely nothing to do with a "70 year stint". it is a recent phenomena where several of these loans were packed into mortage backed securities, which were subsequently compounded even more into a single derivative. this derivative was then sliced into different pieces with assigned credit ratings where the BBB- trounch is EXPECTED to yield a loss. foreclosures, however, are on the rise, the housing market has weakened to a point where the FEAR of AAA rated paper being overvalued has caused tremendous panic. in other words, NOTHING ACTUALLY HAPPENED to cause this crisis. It's a lack of belief or faith in the value of that AAA paper that caused this crisis -- not any sort of actuality. You don't have any idea what you're talking about, and you're making some idealogical rant about the federal reserve that just makes you look like an idiot. - fourthmonk1822, on 03/21/2008, -0/+1What you are witnessing should become a news itself... Count on me for diggin' it!
- nepttako, on 03/17/2008, -0/+1flickr is blocked in china as well.
- inactive, on 03/17/2008, -0/+1Just because someone has it worse doesn't mean we should accept our own problems. Its better to try to improve conditions is it not?
- inactive, on 03/17/2008, -0/+1You tube & Goolge can simply have round-robin mirrored IP addresses to stop their censorship but simply won't. They dont want to piss off china because there is too much $$$ involved. Oh well I guess all the political prisoners in work/rehabilitation camps will need to remain silent while youtube & google look the other way.
- bj1989, on 03/17/2008, -0/+1Besides that the Chinese gouvernement is a bunch of corrupt asses, I spent five minutes wondering why adblock plus failed on me when I realized it was just the thumbnail of this article.
- truck87bp, on 03/17/2008, -0/+1Google: Get your YouTube Videos for Sketch-Up ported elsewhere...they are too good to miss...LOL
- Kaiyu, on 03/17/2008, -0/+1upload rickroll video to Tudou for instance?
- fourthmonk1822, on 03/21/2008, -0/+1Need to ask? China PLA (People Liberation Army) has the strongest cyber-war force. Probably tens of thousand of military and civilians hacking everything. They are also up to propaganda and censorship tasks.
In other words: you can bet your ass this article is being buried. - merkuree, on 03/17/2008, -0/+1is this digg article being buried? cannot believe that a you tube video about a daschound on digg gets 2300 digs but a story about internet censorship only gets 500 digs......
