Uh-huh. Like WE Americans need to be protected... via the Patriot Act. And the Military Commissions Act.. and everything else that takes away our freedoms, right?
Please. Don't insult my intelligence. - fwhsieh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's ridiculous!
- atosdps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Actually, sites like technorati, wordpress.com or BackChina.com can't be accessed directly in China, other sites, or any html docs contain "specific words" "they" defined are also filtered, and the connections will be reset if you try to open it directly. This is the true situation we face here in China. And that is why I install TOR on my computer.
The fact is, most of the people in China don't access the websites mentioned above, they find reading English is too hard, and the "restricted" information provided by the websites rooted in the country is "enough", so they even don't know that some sites aboard are blocked. Even for those who know some sites cannot be accessed, many of them just consider it as some technical problems of the sites' own problems, thus turn to similar services provided by the sites within the country.
So, if this officials won't face the civic pressure inside, and his words are complied with the govenment's policy, I'm not surprised of what he said - RobynG7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hate to break it to you bud, but China is the only reason NK is even PARTICIPATING in the 6-part talks.
Not to say that their censorship is OK. I have been to China myself and have experienced their internet blocking first-hand. It does indeed exist ;-) - darintenb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Are you kidding me? What is the point of continuing discussion with China on this matter (or any for that matter) when they can straight up lie, and then call those around them the liars?
Kick 'em out of the discussions, they clearly won't be serving a productive purpose, just like they don't in the 6-way talks with North Korea. - deltrentis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can't access Technorati now in China.
