- nova912, on 04/25/2009, -0/+3Fun Fact: TRAVERSE CITY, is pronounced like "Traver's" City in the town.
- leesw, on 04/25/2009, -0/+2Social networks can be helpful for charities. I don't see why they'd see them as negatives. They can organize groups with them to raise money and/or awareness.

This is a post I submitted but did not get any attention. Uses revenue from redirecting traffic to google to donate rice to hungry children. All you have to do is hit "search" and you have donated 20 grains of rice to schoolchildren in developing countries. Much more practical than a facebook app - graywolfz10, on 04/25/2009, -0/+1All charities want is your money.
- yugnats, on 04/27/2009, -0/+1because they mean social networks have 'potential' AND 'risk'...not 'potential risk'.
- o76923, on 04/25/2009, -0/+1The biggest danger I've heard my mom complain about from social networks is that people who might have made small donations now join groups to show support instead. Having one more ribbon out of thousands on a profile isn't really helping the group all that much. Many users will also leave if they are sent messages more than once per month. Its alot like religion, great for getting your numbers up but awful for getting new believers.
- bavatara, on 04/25/2009, -0/+1Yeah I have seen this before. You can actually set one up for any charity.
- isorfir, on 04/26/2009, -0/+1Any other Traverse City-ians here?
- bavatara, on 04/25/2009, -0/+1good point, but i only ever join fb groups to flame on their wall and then i leave.
- BooLag, on 04/25/2009, -0/+0Social Networks are really helpful.
- inactive, on 04/25/2009, -0/+0If you ask me to "swap a plant" then I don't know you anymore. Not complicated.
- sgalbreath, on 04/25/2009, -0/+0Social networking is just one more tool in the box for fundraising. Recognizing that not everyone participates, and you must use other avenues also, I can see a real boon for not-for-profits in getting on the social sites and increasing awareness of their mission and opening some wallets.
