- Dalhectar, on 04/17/2009, -3/+18Whether or not I can use twitter to find breaking info on events like the Mumbai bombing, earthquakes, teabagging, or G20 protests...
Or If i want to use twitter to organize a meetup at a bar...
Or express myself with 140 characters or less...
Isn't effected by Ashton Kutcher or Oprah one way or the other. Unless Demi Moore happens to be at the bar in question. - Topher06, on 04/17/2009, -11/+26This only proves Twitter is for attention whores. Case closed. Another nail in the coffin of the Twitter fad.
- inactive, on 04/17/2009, -6/+17Twitter gives a new meaning to celebrity poop
- AmyVernon, on 04/17/2009, -3/+12While it was inevitable, I wish I'd spent more time on Twitter before the celeb invasion.
- Senturion, on 04/18/2009, -1/+6I don't really think this changes anything for early adopters.
You only pay attention to who you follow, I think that is a concept the mainstream media doesn't grasp yet.
So if you want to be a Twitter OG just don't follow all these celebs looking for attention.
The occasional tweet from Oprah to her drones isn't going to change the way you use Twitter. - Urkel, on 04/18/2009, -0/+4What's really sad/funny is how the "Geek Celebrities" like Kevin Rose, Calicanis, Leo Laporte (etc) worked for almost 2 years in building Twitter's popularity and gaining Twitter Followers, but in a month a terrible C-List actor ends up destroying their numbers. And somehow Ashton Kutcher is now getting on Oprah and Larry King as the representative for "New Media" despite the fact that he doesn't really understand what any of this stuff is.
- 919kwjc, on 04/18/2009, -1/+5Real celebs? Whatever, the fake one's are way better.

- dbossnirvana, on 04/17/2009, -9/+12The only real celebrity worth following is Shaq. The rest are just boring-ass fags who are in it jUz cuS eVeryOne's doinn iiitt.
- joshcarv, on 04/18/2009, -4/+7it jumped the shark yesterday when oprah decided she would join...
- Ksg89, on 04/18/2009, -1/+4Just dont follow them, thats how it works!
- DouglasQ, on 04/18/2009, -0/+3What's the old meaning?
- Ragzouken, on 04/18/2009, -0/+2Stephen Fry, Charlie Brooker?
- ViscidGobs, on 04/18/2009, -2/+4What I really doubt is that these people are posting these notes. Most likely, it is one of their assistant's or "handlers" (drones) that are posting their twitty tweets. Twitter becomes more or less a marketing ploy to keep their names out in the "twitterverse" and allow what celebrities do with themselves and that is be the center of attention or do things that bring them that attention along with movie roles, endorsements, music and movies sales and anything else that is celebrity commodification.
- inactive, on 04/18/2009, -9/+11Proof that Twitter is for attention whores...
- lead2thehead, on 04/18/2009, -1/+3Well of course they have. Twitter is an egomaniac's dream come true. Celebs think they're so important that everyone needs to know what they're thinking every minute of every day. Twitter lets them do that.
- pihl, on 04/18/2009, -0/+2http://twitter.com/formerlyCwalken
- Urkel, on 04/18/2009, -0/+1What it changes is twitter search. With a mainstream audience that doesn't really know (or want to learn) how to post then searching for specific terms results in useless ramblings. And that really does make the service worse now than 3months ago when it was "geeks only".
- GamingBob, on 04/18/2009, -3/+4I can't believe Kutcher and Combs were on Larry King talking about Twitter. That was extremely lame.
- itcoll, on 04/18/2009, -1/+2are porn stars in twitter ?
- theOster, on 04/19/2009, -0/+1every form of communication goes through a "who cares" phase. but history shows that the power of communication has always fought against being controlled by a small few groups (govt, chruch, etc). with the internet, it's become very easy for every individual to have a voice. and once you have free information, you also have the freedom to fact check those voices and make better-informed decisions.
- coldfusion1970, on 04/19/2009, -0/+1Errrr, it really doesnt matter AmyVernon which celebrities are on Twitter as you only see updates for people you choose to follow. Doh.
- smackydoodle, on 04/18/2009, -3/+4I don't get why people are so whiney that these celebrities are on Twitter. Who cares? If you don't follow them, you won't even know they exist.
- KibibyteBrain, on 04/18/2009, -0/+1Well, the whole point of twitter was it was a rather basic service you could build things on top of. It should be quite possible to make a service on top of twitter that only includes profiles that have lots of high tech/special interest keywords in them.
- mgm280, on 04/18/2009, -0/+1Sarah Jay
- theOster, on 04/19/2009, -1/+2why does this bother you? don't follow stupid people. dont go look at their feeds, don't listen to them...dont... well you get the point.
- v4vishal, on 04/18/2009, -0/+1What the hell happened to http://twitter.com/cwalken ???
- shadownetwork, on 04/18/2009, -0/+1Sasha Grey
- scanman20, on 04/18/2009, -0/+1http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PN2HAroA12w
- AteNas, on 04/18/2009, -0/+0Awsome way of thinking. It boosts their egos a lot, really.
- ortucis, on 04/18/2009, -1/+1Well, it IS a place for twits..
- Princeamor, on 04/18/2009, -1/+1I still don't understand why people use this... why the hell would I want the whole world to invade my privacy like that?
- hiPpymIck, on 04/18/2009, -1/+1i was hoping it would be good to follow the tag #greenwash
to find the latest hilarious examples of blatant lying
but there isnt that much there at the moment - inactive, on 04/18/2009, -2/+2Does anyone want to what I am doing right this minute? I don't think so. twitter is just a waste of bandwidth.
- Urkel, on 04/18/2009, -1/+1You could fix twitter in one easy step. Remove follower numbers. That eliminates the popularity contest and would cause Ashton Kutcher to step down from being the self-elected representative for "New Media" or whatever he calls it.
- coldfusion1970, on 04/19/2009, -1/+1Or you could just not care about followers numbers. Why should it bother you?
I dont care that i have 70 followers while iJustine has 455,000. - RegisPhilbin09, on 04/18/2009, -0/+0Rainn Wilson and John Hodgman are good to follow. Shaq is great though for his public tweeting. I don't think Hodgman would say "hey I'm in a mall touch me and get two free tickets!"
- abhiroop, on 04/18/2009, -3/+2Who is "Shaq"?
- mgm280, on 04/18/2009, -2/+1I adapted early, cancelled account and re joined two weeks ago. Like a PDA, I still think twitter has no real use.
- inactive, on 04/18/2009, -2/+1Case closed
- HerrWolf, on 04/17/2009, -7/+6Now you can know what your favourite celebrity had for lunch.
Thank you, Twitter! - inactive, on 04/18/2009, -4/+2you know kevin rose is on twitter
- Libertaire, on 04/18/2009, -8/+5Well, if I were Twitter, I'd be very concerned by this trend because it seriously risks creating some form of backlash--as in people leaving Twitter--because of dumb celebrities who have nothing better to do with their time than to try and out-twit each other. I mean Ashton Kutcher v CNN?? Gimme a freaking break man.
Oh yes and I forgot to mention: buried for CNN. - Chooxo, on 04/18/2009, -7/+4Uh oh, it's gone mainstream! It's not cool anymore!
- Susarodr1981, on 04/18/2009, -3/+0are we gonna see sex tapes in pictures on Twitter? :)
- inactive, on 04/18/2009, -7/+4effing twits
- billy1380, on 04/18/2009, -7/+2Ashton Kutcher! Reeeeeeeeally?
