- 7of7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wow, now I can take my brand new M5 across the US of A at 170Mph. Oh wait, that's right, I can't afford an M5 and I also can't drive over 75 in the entire US. Now what am I to do?
- arte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No way dawg, buy a civic and tune it. Spoiler + Stickers = HP

real link - karit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0(sorry no direct link, it's uk)
Why does that make a difference? - camintmier, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Now we've just gotta find places here in the US where we can legally go 150+ mph...
The fastest I've went in my own car was 110 mph in my '91 Pontiac 6000 LE. (Yes, go on and laugh, you know you want to.) - Joe091, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Got my Audi up to 130 mph once. Took quite a while though, and it was slightly scary. It would really suck to get a flat going that fast.
- The_Lance, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I thought there was one point in time where Montana didn't have a speed limit.. or did they change that now?
- test5477, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0use the actual link, don't link your blog.
Why should the companies put limits on the speed? Its not like there are places to do 170 . ...well i guess there are - interstates - 7of7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0^^ But it's almost preordained that the second your Neon hit one mile an hour above the speed limit you'd happen to drive by every single trooper in your district.
- lussonaturae, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Got my Ford Ranger up to 105 before the govenor kicked in, had the same experience of the engine wanting to shut down. Thank you Ford for letting me go that fast then yanking my balls out because I know that V6 can crank out more with an empty bed..oops.
- pattersonb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My parents' motorhome has a speed limiter at 75 mph. I don't think you would really want a motorhome to go any faster.
Haven't quite had the guts to see where my 03 neon tops out. I'm always afraid I'll get caught. This would be a good weekend to do it though. (in Iowa almost all of the state troopers are in Des Moines providing security for the national governors conference and only 3 troopers per district are left to patrol the roads) - jediboytj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I never quite understood why a lot of cars have speedometers that go way over 150+ mph... last time i checked, there wasnt too many places around here that you can go that fast in....
well, my friend got up to about 120mph in his BMW on the highway once. it was like, 2AM and there was NOONE on the road. - hypeiv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ha my car is limited at 156 (no joke) so I can race any of those cars and just beat them once we both get to the top speed.
- TheGuy20, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm fairly certain the old Montana speed limit was something like "a reasonable speed". Now they use actual numbers again.
- turbo2ltr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The limiter was mostly due to tires. Typically your car's speed limiter is set so you can't go faster than what the tires are rated at. Before Z rated tires came out, 149 mph was the highest any tire was rated.
- superic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0carbonunit, there are speed limits in Germany, just not everywhere. I've driven on the Autobahn many times. In fact, I think I got my picture taking going into Berlin at about 180kph in a 120 zone... oops. (rental BWM)
The fastest I've gone in the states is about 140mph on the express way in my STi -- which is funny because the fasted I've gone on the track is about 130mph :) - zbeast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thats just silly. That was the first mod I made to my engine computer.
just after I purchased my car. It's completly tuneable. all you need is a laptop ODBC cable and software you can download or buy.
Chance your shift points for automatic. Rase the rev limiter stops. Turn off the max speed limit. I found out about max speed limiters chasing a friend home from work. My Cobra got to 149 and it was like someone turned off the engine. - GTAcrimelord, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That and the Autobahn
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0In Germany there are no speed limits. I guess it's because the car companies like BMW have some influence in the government.
- phil.busch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0One word: Wheee!
- aftontech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0is this for all cars in the US or just a few manufacturers who have "signed on" to lift the limits?
- Gringo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The reason they are considering this is because Bentley just made a car called the "Flying Spur" which will top out around 200mph. It is now the fastest 4door production car, unseating the BMW M5 which has held that honor for quite some time. Here is the site link.
http://www.automobilemag.com/2007_sneak_preview/0504_bentley_flying_spur/ - siestaguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I used to have a 1991 Nissan Sentra and frequently would hit the limit of the speed governor. The first time it kicked in, it was frightening because the car suddenly stoped accelerating, the transmission disengages, and the engine revs down to idle. In the instant it happens, it feels like you're hitting a wall.
- z0rz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0^^ No you won't. My first speeding ticket was $220 USD. I have a Toyota Celica GT 5spd (2000) and I cruise at about 85-90 to and from work (35 mile commute). Just keep your eyes pealed and know the system. http://newcelica.org/forums/showpost.php?p=865330&postcount=1
- MEvsYOU, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Speed... nuff said. Go ahead make it happen.. get your first speeding ticket and after that i assure you that you'll chill out.
- The_Lance, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There is always the Salt Lake City flats.. I want to go there and get a car upto 178mph..
- ,,|,_, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0^^But it's almost preordained that the second ANY Neon hit one mile an hour above the speed limit, the doors would fall off...
- mercury81, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0get a radar detector and do it anyway.
