- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+67When will people realize that oxygen from the tap is just as good.
- trevorroth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+62My thoughts exactly. "Perri-Air"
Hail Skroob! - gwax, on 10/12/2007, -3/+39Good luck setting up distribution chains. Oxygen is dangerous stuff.
- SPNKrPunk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21I'm excited. I can finally buy a highly flammible gas component in a vending machine!

- godmode, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Kind of like how Oxygen bars have become the next bars huh? yeah right.

Should I just let it slide since it's an article on "failedsuccess.com"/does anyone else want to ***** on this article for stupidity? - Guano, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13It's easier for you to go to the store and buy something than to turn a nob in your house?
- CarlosReyes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11The Author forgot to quote Tyler Durden (Fight Club) "you know why they give you oxygen masks, because oxygen makes you high" breathing pure oxygen is dangerous, yet its what you have to do to recover from carbon monoxide poisoning.
- t0dd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10We of course need oxygen to survive but it could hurt us: "Oxygen derivatives are prone to form free radicals, especially in metabolic processes. Because they can cause severe damage to cells and their DNA, they form part of theories of carcinogenesis and aging." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxygen
- alky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9The sad part is the article mentions some of the "pros" of canned oxygen.
They mentioned "cleansing impurities" and the whole thing went up about 10 levels of BS for me. No one ever says "cleansing impurities" unless you're getting into new-age. - zeldafan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Well, if you want a good idea of it you can always get real close to a leaf or other plant and inhale, same affect sadly.
- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Flavoured water is pretty sad too.
"Flavoured water" == watery juice - szelij, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Canned oxygen eh? How are you going to bottle it? I'm not buying a 10kg bottle of compressed oxygen, neither am i buying a 200oz can of oxygen that with one gulp will be gone..
- SuperSloth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I've been on oxygen in the hospital. It makes you feel momemtarily refreshed when you start using it (it's like catching a really big breath) and light-headed when you take it away (because your lungs got used to the high oxygen conditions). I liked the oxygen more than I liked the demoral (similar to morphine or herioin). It didn't make the thirsty. If anything, it made me relaxed and sleepy.
Oxygen has lots of problems, though. First, unless it's in a pure oxygen environment (which is toxic) oxygen is the most flammable substance there is. Combustion == rapid combination of any substance with oxygen.
Next, you can also become dependent on high-oxygen environments. Humans were designed to live in environments of 21-22% oxygen. Sustained contact with higher levels can cause your lungs to work less efficiently.
Third, at high levels oxygen is toxic and corrosive. You will die because your blood gets oversaturated and the oxygen begins to cause damage. Your body relies on having that nitrogen in the air to dillute the oxygen. - RoyHobbs, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9this will never take off. I still cannot believe people buy bottled water and that it is a billion dollar industry?!?!?
- kidlinux, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Heh, I can just imagine people drinking liquid oxygen and their teeth subsequently shattering :P
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11What's the matter, Colonel Saunders..... CHICKEN!??!!
- ditangquan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5nothing like a nice long draft of oxygen to clear the head and hangover after a night of drinking. I learned that from a pilot when I worked for a major airline.
- demosthenes247, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5we do buy soil
- mosvegas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6It was kinda weird the can weighed nothing, the only way you knew there was anything coming out was that it was scented and was cool to breathe. Kinda makes you a little light headed actually. Smells good too.
- sclozza, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5One of my Dilbert books says that the best demographic to market to is the "Rich & Stupid" category. Looks like these canned oxygen people have taken that on.
- spling, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8@merreborn
I'm pretty sure he knows that gasses can be compressed. The real indicator is the whole "I'm not buying a 10kg bottle of compressed oxygen" part of his comment. RTFC before you make an ass of yourself.
A bottle of coke lasts 10-15 minutes and weighs a pound.
A bottle of air that lasts 10-15 minutes weighs 50 pounds.
A bottle of air that weighs one pound lasts 1 minute.
More or less. Get what he's saying now? - merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"the police and others will look at this as huffing."
... Right. And who's going to pass the law making breathing oxygen illegal?
A cop can "look on" breathing any way he wants. That doesn't mean he can arrest you for it. You have to actually violate a law, which in this context, means abusing a controlled substance. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6These would make excellent weapons....
- Sarge117, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I wouldn't be surprised if, thanks solely to this article, somebody has been killed or injured because of a can of compressed oxygen exploded in their face.
Not only is canned oxygen a stupid idea, it's one that's begging for lawsuits and abuse. - br0ken1128, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Sometimes vending machine water IS easier than tap..
Like when I'm at work, only tap water near by is in the public restroom on my floor, the vending machine is right down the hall .. it wins - Midnightbrewer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4How can you buy bottled water because you're lazy? That takes *more* effort, not less.
- WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4You'll PAY! ...or asphyxiate from the 'common air' that is shared with internal combustion engines.
You'll PAY! Muahahaaa! (evil laughter) - mcbean, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Why, from a mountain spring in the forests of British Columbia of course. I don't know where you get it.
- pavelich, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4i am sick of everyone on digg re-using the same jokes over and over. Its like some iconic nerd show says a joke each week and then we have to hear it applied to every single story in different way.
- CheapyD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The sell this at 7-11 in Japan:
http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=91233 - Zzone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I would much rather have canned THC.
- rightbrain12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Did you know that you can compress gasses?"
Yeah, like after eating Mexican food while sitting on a leather couch... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Ummmm...this is not a new concept. The wacko celebrities like Woody Harrelson have been doing things like this for several years. It is NOT going to take off becuae it always would have.
As stupid as bottle water is, it would not have taken off if water was LITERALLY all around you at all times. A HUGE part of the succes of bottle water came from people drinking it at work. Because some people don't like water fountains and don't always have a cup around. If there was no such thing as going to work, and people were always in their homes, Bottled Water would NOT be a mutli-billion dollar industry.
But air is EVERYWHERE. At work, at home, outside, inside, city country. Everywhere. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3But a lot of people LIKE "watery juice" They don't want the strong taste of juice, but want just a little flavor that pure water doesn't give you. I know it is not quite the sam thing, but look at Gatorade. I can't stand most of the "new" flavors of Gatorade because they are just like regular juices. But the original Lemon-Lime still seems to be water first, with a hint of flavor. Makes it easier to drink faster, which is what people are after if they are all sweaty after some physical activity.
Not really different from a restaurant putting a lemon wedge in your water. Or even, quite frankly, putting a lime in your Corona. Corona is practically water. - Phyltre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well, to be honest, I hate carbonated drinks for their acidic taste, so I might be a bit biased.
- kanno, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Is there a jail near you? Just go there... turn yourself in. When they ask what for, just tell them that it's better off this way.
And for goodness' sake don't play with any damn matches on the way! - merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8Did you know that you can compress gasses?
Crazy huh? - Gendu, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8Space balls rocked... PRESIDENT SCROOB SALUTE!
- cokebottletuque, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I am fairly sure that would violate some sort of shipping law about compressed gasses on airplanes.
- SpeedyG, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Contrary to popular belief, there isn't a tap of city-purified water freely available everywhere in the country. Contrary to popular belief, there are many parts of this country that don't have bunches of public services with water fountains littered all over the place. Contrary to popular belief, all water fountains are not created equal (ever had one where the water left a wonderful metallic aftertaste? where the water was warm/hot? where the water was discolored for a second or two?).
Bottled water IS useful to many people. I'd think you'd have a hard time pitching canned air to most people (and as soon as the stories about the cans exploding started up, it would be even harder). - iTony, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7The second I saw the headline I thought, "there are going to be a ton of Spaceballs jokes in the comments." Didn't expect to see it in the article itself!
- gigabitten, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3yeah and school administrators will say its "gang related", and maybe they'll have those anonimous surveys asking "in the last thirty days have you huffed bottled oxygen?" i tell you, school people get all afraid of things they dont know about.
- puffarthur, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6They should also sell canned pure hydrogen, it's just as safe. Maybe some people have forgotten that compressed pure O2 is one of the most flammable and combustible things you can have.
- Agret, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4 Tobey your such a n00b, you just pwnt yourself.
- Voide, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yeah, that makes sense. Lets spend $1+ on bottled water just so we don't catch a cold every year....which....you still are exposed to bacteria, viruses, and whatnot in other places besides public drinking foutains, so you still get sick. Period.
While your speading hundreds of dollars a year on bottled water, I'll use that hundred dollars that I save for something that doesn't make up 70% of the earth... -
